September 2016 Meeting Recap!
We had a great September meeting that focused on
helping us prepare for the Mini Sumobot Competition in
November.
The meeting featured awesome robotic videos, an
overview of Arduino Create & Cloud, Sumobot tactics
and strategies and then wrapped up the meeting with
some interesting Show & Tell.

Sumo Boy
Professor Vannoy shared
additional sumo strategies
from Sumo Boy.
NOTE: This company tried
to launch a kickstarter
sumo robot kit, but it was
unsuccessful.
Also, I believe their website
sumo-boy.com might be
hacked so avoid for now.

Show & Tell!
Chip PearsonChip shared how he 3d printed a prototype system for animatronics to house an eye socket. He started
on the left, learned what worked and didn’t and then proceeded to build the one on the right - 60% field of
vision.
23Riverside Robotics Society
2 gram servos
Chip also shared some really tiny and
super lightweight servo’s that are used in
helicopters.
24Riverside Robotics Society
VR & Zombies
Al Taylor shared a humorous story
of how he plays with his HTC Vive
http://www.vive.com/us/ a Virtual
Reality Platform and shoots
zombies.
Anyhow, he used his making skills
and built a system to house the
handset.

Membership and Sponsors
Become a Member or Sponsor Today
32Riverside Robotics Society
Our not-for-profit club is supported mostly by
membership dues and occasional gifts in kind by our
sponsors.
Membership is $20 a year for an individual and $30 for
a family. While dues is not a requirement to be a
member, it helps defray our expenses for things like
coffee, donuts, water, soft drinks and our pizza parties.
We encourage all members to consider purchasing
products from those that support our club where
possible.
About Riverside Robotics Society
33Riverside Robotics Society
The Riverside Robotics Society is a not-for-profit group
that promotes and shares ideas and experiences
about robotics. Our members are comprised largely of
hobbyists who love to design and build robots.
Our group is open those of all ages although those
under 18 must have a parent present. We love to
share and this includes the use of equipment such as
hot soldering irons as well as small and sharp
electronic parts.
When you visit the group, you accept complete and
sole responsibility for your actions.
