Jump Rope for Heart is a fundraising and physical activity program based around skipping. It teaches school aged children how to keep fit and healthy, all while having fun and raising vital funds for heart disease research and education. Since it began in 1983, more than 90% of all Australian schools, and over eight million kids, have participated in Jump Rope for Heart. Each year the program gets more than 280,000 school students from over 1,400 schools around Australia up and skipping. Children learn physical activities like rope-jumping to help improve their strength, gain confidence, build stamina and extend their physical abilities in other activities. The fundraising aspect also teaches them to be community minded and compassionate. The Ministers for Fundraising are busy supporting this initiative by conducting skipping activities at lunchtime for students. There will be a Jump Off day on September 26 at school, where all classes will move through a rotation of skipping activities and students will be given the opportunity to perform skipping routines. Information on how students can get involved fundraising is on the flyer accompanying the newsletter. Premier’s Spelling Bee The Premier’s Spelling Bee was introduced in 2004 as a fun and educational way for primary school students to engage in spelling. The program encourages students to participate in spelling activities and to promote improved literacy in combination with the English K-6 syllabus. The competition comprises two divisions – Junior for Stage 2 students (Years 3 & 4), and Senior for Stage 3 students (Years 5 & 6). Words for the competition are provided by Macquarie Dictionary and are divided into several categories. Maclean Public School will once again host the regional final of the Premier’s Spelling Bee competition. This will take place in the hall on September 5 from 9:30am. M.P.S will be represented in stage 2 by Madora Barton and Leah Jenkins and from stage 3 we have Ethan Moore and Hayden Fisher. We wish them luck. Spectators are most welcome. Sporting News Congratulations to Robert Miller and Jack Torrens, who will be competing at the North Coast athletics carnival. Robert will compete in the 8oom and 100m races and Jack in the discus. Foodie Friday Volunteers

Thank you to those who already volunteer to enable our Foodie Fridays to run. Last week we had a record week with over 80 lunch order placed which made it a very busy day for our volunteers. If you have any spare time on a Friday between 9:00am and 2:00pm we would love to see you. Please contact the office if you can assist.

War on Waste Mr Rosnell has been working with students in years 4 to 6 on environmental awareness. As part of these lessons students have taken part in a rubbish audit. As we know there is a huge amount of waste that can be recycled instead of ending up in landfill. If we all do our bit we can make a difference. At Maclean Public School we have a 3 bin waste system and composting bins in our school garden.

Transition The pre-school visits to Kindergarten have been a great success, with students enjoying their time at big school. We look forward to welcoming our Kindergarten 2019 students at our orientation days next term.

P and C Thank you very much to the PnC for the donation of outdoor ground mats, we look forward to using them.

Regards, Carolyn Carolyn Philliips

Principal

Accept that change is part of living. Expect things to change and adversity to occur, rather than pretend all will always be well. Change is part of life. Your goal is to cope effectively rather than avoid loss or pain.
