But it’s not actually that But it’s not actually that surprising, and it has nothing to do surprising, and it has nothing to do with the Lady’s femininity finally with the Lady’s femininity finally asserting itself in a play that largely asserting itself in a play that largely obsessed with the meaning of obsessed with the meaning of manhood. manhood.

Her bravado, which stands in Her bravado, which stands in marked contrast to Macbeth’s marked contrast to Macbeth’s tortured regret, reveals itself as tortured regret, reveals itself as simply that – bravado masking simply that – bravado masking anger and bitterness over her anger and bitterness over her husband’s actions forcing her to do husband’s actions forcing her to do what she’s done, empty posturing what she’s done, empty posturing hiding a deeper hurt. hiding a deeper hurt.
