DATA SHEET
PHE–TYPE M10–B
frame plate is normally stationary, while the pressure plate ismovable along a carrying bar, which also holds the plate pack. The carrying bar is supported by the frame at one end and asupport column which is bolted to the foundation at the other.
At the lower end of the frame, a guiding bar maintains verticalalignement of the plates.
In most cases all pipes are connected to the frame plate, howev-er it is also possible to have connections located in the pressureplate.
The plate heat exchanger consist of a heat transfer surface ofcorrugated thin plates of a corrosion resistant material, and aframe which holds up the plate pack, clamps it together and pro-vides connection with the piping system.
A gasket of suitable material – usually an elastomer – is locatedalong the perimeter and corners of each plate. Holes in the cor-ners form a header with the connections in the frame.
The frame consist of two heavy covers of painted carbon steel(the frame plate and the pressure plate) between which theplate pack is pressed together by means of tightening bolts. The

NOTE!Plates, gaskets and frames may have different pressure and temperature limits.
The weakest part determines the performance limit of the PHE.
(3) Only for US applications.
(4) Rubber spools in the frame – and pressure plate in NBR (Nitrile) and EPDM are limited to:
Temperature limits: 95°C for NBR105°C for EPDM
(5) Frame plate.
(6) Pressure plate.
(7) Section between two connection plates: Minimum 12plates Section nearest the frame plate: Minimum 6 plates.

All frames:
Carrying bars in aluminium or in zink coated carbon steel.
Supporting column in aluminium or in zink coated carbonsteel.
The maximum pressure ratings are valid for plate packs with more than 30 plates.
(1) For Marine application: The Test pressure is 1.5 x Design pressure.
(2) Structural steel 37–2 may not be used for heat exchangers processing inflammable, poisonous or corrosive media, which at processing temperature may be in the gas, liquids or solid state. Exception: Heat exchangers which form part of an oil storage fired heating plant.
(10) FKMG may cause corrosion on titanium plates.
(11) Do not use FM frames.
(12) It must never be glued or taped.
(8) Performance limits at stable operating conditions. Quick cooling of the PHE may cause ”cold leakage”. EspeciallyEPDMAL are sensitive.
(9) Do not use FM frames for operating temperatures ex–ceeding 120°C.

plate pack is pressed together by means of tightening bolts. Theframe plate is normally stationary, while the pressure plate ismovable along a carrying bar, which also holds the plate pack. The carrying bar is supported by the frame at one end and asupport column which is bolted to the foundation at the other.
At the lower end of the frame, a guiding bar maintains verticalalignement of the twin plates.
In most cases all pipes are connected to the frame plate, howev-er it is also possible to have connections located in the pressureplate.
The plate heat exchanger consist of a heat transfer surface withalterning welded channels and traditional gasketed channels.
The aggresive medium flows in a channel which is formed bywelding the reverse side of two plate grooves to each other. Theonly gaskets in contact with this medium are two circular ringgaskets between the welded twin plate.
Ring gaskets have been developed in highly resistant elasto-mer and non–elastomer materials. The channels containing thenon–aggresive secondary medium are sealed by traditionalgaskets.
The frame consist of two heavy covers of painted carbon steel(the frame plate and the pressure plate) between which the

Notes
NOTE!Plates, gaskets and frames may have different pressure and temperature limits.
The weakest part determines the performance limit of the PHE.
(1) Structural steel 37–2 may not be used for heat exchangersprocessing inflammable, poisonous or corrosive media, which at processing temperature may be in the gas, liquidsor solid state. Exception: Heat exchangers which form partof an oil storage fired heating plant.
(2) Only for US applications.
(3) Frame plate.
(4) Pressure plate.
All frames:
Carrying bars and supporting column in zinc coated carbonsteel.
The edges of the carrying bar slot on welded cassettes arescratching and gripping the surface of alumina carrying bars. For this reason alumina carrying bars have been re–placed with zinc coated carrying bars on all M10–BW frames.M24 tightening bolts have also been replaced with M30 bolts on M10–BW frames due to problems with seizing.
The maximum pressure ratings are valid for plate packs with minimum 10 cassettes.

frame plate is normally stationary, while the pressure plate ismovable along a carrying bar, which also holds the plate pack.
The double–wall plate heat exchanger works on the same prin-ciple as a conventional plate heat exchanger but differs in thatthe single plates between the two media are replaced by platepairs consisting of two plates stacked on top of each other andwelded around the portholes. The channels then formed by as-sembling welded plate pairs in a plate pack are conventionalchannels sealed by gaskets in the traditional manner.
The frame consist of two heavy covers of painted carbon steel(the frame plate and the pressure plate) between which theplate pack is pressed together by means of tightening bolts. The

Notes
All frames:
Carrying bars in zink coated carbon steel.
The edges of the carrying bar slot on double wall plates arescratching and gripping the surface of alumina carrying bars. For this reason alumina carrying bars have been re–placed with zinc coated carrying bars on all M10–BDframes.
Supporting column in aluminium or in zink coated carbonsteel.
The maximum pressure ratings are valid for plate packs with more than 30 plates.
(1) For Marine application: The Test pressure is 1.5 x Designpressure.
(2) Structural steel 37–2 may not be used for heat exchangersprocessing inflammable, poisonous or corrosive media, which at processing temperature may be in the gas, liquidsor solid state. Exception: Heat exchangers which form partof an oil storage fired heating plant.
NOTE!Plates, gaskets and frames may have different pressure and temperature limits.
The weakest part determines the performance limit of the PHE.
(3) Rubber spools in the frame – and pressure plate in NBR
(Nitrile) and EPDM are limited to:
Temperature limits: 95°C for NBR105°C for EPDM

plate pack is pressed together by means of tightening bolts.

CO2 normally for low temps with condensation by another Refrigerant. Hence SWPHE normally not suitable.
Max Temperature and Pressure depending on SWPHE Model and plate thickness/material,
Max and min Pressures and Temperatures are referred to operating conditions and not Design Pressure/Temp.
PAG Oil developed for NH3 Dry Expansion mainly owing to solubulity with NH3.
For R22 substitutes Mineral Oil residues might be present together with POE Oil. EPDM then non advisable .
PVE Oil not generally used, but evaluated with HFC´s, particularly with R410A.

DATA SHEET
PHE–TYPE M10–BWREF
The semi– welded PHEs combine the flexibility and serviceabili-ty of the gasketed heat exchangers with the assurance againstleakage of the welded heat exchangers. In the plate arrange-ment, every other channel is welded, and every other channelis gasketed. The refrigerant flows in the welded channels withno contact with the gaskets except at the port holes. In Alfa La-val’s semi welded PHEs, these are provided with gaskets spe-cifically designed to resist aggressive media. The brine flows inthe gasketed channels. This construction means that the PHEscan easily be dismantled, for example for exchanging gasketsor for inspection and cleaning of the gasketed channels.
Corrosion–resistant plate materials, the absence of pressure–retaining welds, double gasket seals, and a flexible yet vibra-tion–resistant design – to assure long life and trouble free op-eration.
The Alfa Laval M10–BWREF is a highly efficient, compact andlow charge plate heat exchanger especially developed for airconditioning and refrigeration applications. Its semi weldedconstruction and materials provides protection against leakage, and thus the M10–BWREF is suitable for use with aggressivemedia, such as ammonia.
The frame design of the M10–BWREF is completely symmetri-cal, which means it can be turned and is thus easily manageableduring installation. This flexibility is further enhanced becausethe one and the same construction of M10–BWREF copes withmost refrigerant, application, temperatures and pressure ves-sel codes.
The M10–BWREF comes equipped with weld joint connec-tions. Loose and counter flange connections are optional, as isa distributor for even dispersal of 2–phase media in the PHE’ schannels.
One practical detail is the drain connection that can be used forsuch operations as taking specimens, drainage or oil return.
Standard design Working principle
A1–M10–BWREF Edition 1 0011
NOTE!Plates, gaskets and frames may have different pressure and temperature limits.
The weakest part determines the performance limit of the PHE.
Carrying bars and supporting column in zinc coated carbon steel.
The maximum pressure ratings are valid for plate packs with minimum 10 cassettes.

PVE Oil not generally used, but evaluated with HFC´s, particularly with R410A.

frame plate is normally stationary, while the pressure plate ismovable along a carrying bar, which also holds the plate pack.
The
