President
In the words of John Wesley...
Lively stones…The inspiration for this year’s cover design is the verse from I Peter “…like living stones be yourselves built into a spiritual house….” The imagery of the builder’s art speaks of diverse and unique individuals drawn together in community, cemented in shared purpose with the cornerstone of the living Christ, and lifting up a house encompassing the community of faith across space and time.
This is a big vision for the work of the Church in the world, and in every age faithful Christians have applied practical resources in service to this vision. This 2007 Annual Review celebrates those “lively stones” whose generosity and passion for ministry continue to extend the reach of Christ’s message and in so doing enlarge the spiritual house today and for future generations.
As your Missouri United Methodist Foundation completes its fortieth year in ministry its total assets under administration exceed $63 million in value. It is helping over 220 United Methodist churches and related agencies to ‘multiply the talents’ for ministry. It sponsors workshops and seminars to invigorate
the practice of financial discipleship, and it assists individuals in establishing gift annuities, charitable trusts and endowments benefiting the work of the Church and the cause of Christ.
This financial foundation is simply one more tool in the hands of the Master Builder, and we join in humble thanks for God’s abundant blessings.
Yours in service,
Executive Director

In 2007, we honored a friend and colleague of granite constitution and a spirit-filled heart for ministry – Norm Porch. Norm joined the Foundation Board of Directors in 1998.
During Norm’s nine years of service, he served as a member of the Investment Management Committee. In addition, from 2001 to 2004 he served as Treasurer and from 2004 to 2007 he served as the Chair of the Investment Management Committee. During his tenure, Foundation assets under administration more than doubled and average annualized investment returns
on Foundation funds met or exceeded expectations.
Though never at a loss for words, Norm always leads by example. As co-leader of an East conference fund raising effort, Norm personally created several funds at the Foundation that will bear fruit in support of ministries far into the future. He was also instrumental in helping his beloved local church, Bellefontaine United Methodist Church establish long-term investment funds at the Foundation.
And, while Norm has served tirelessly
as a lay leader at Bellefontaine UMC and on boards and committees at the district and conference levels, perhaps his greatest achievements in long-term investing are the outstanding children he and his wife Nellie have raised – who are, in turn, raising outstanding grandchildren. Thank you Norm for your service.
Many Thanks to an Honored Friend

It is a charitable Gift annuity and it combines a current tax-deductible gift with fixed payments to you for life. The payment amount is determined by your age at the time you create your gift annuity. A portion of the payments are tax-free and, when the annuity ends, you have the satisfaction of knowing your gift will support the United Methodist ministry(ies) you have designated. You can make a significant gift to your favorite United Methodist church or charity—and receive a fixed income for life. Your Missouri United Methodist Foundation makes it easy. A Gift to Benefit Her Church Home
In her youth, Marjorie Hendren’s family was associated with the Baptist, Presbyterian, and Evangelical churches. But it is First United Methodist of North Kansas City that has been her church home for over thirty years. Parents of her children’s school chums attended FUMC so she gave it a try. The Harmony and Keystone adult Sunday School classes have played a very special role in Marjorie’s life during this long and happy association.
Marjorie had already earmarked a CD to benefit the church. But when she learned that a CGA provides a higher payout, a current tax deduction, and tax-exempt income, she separated the CD into sequential CGA’s – one last year, one this year, and one scheduled for next year.

A Gift to Ministry Education Ever since she answered the call of a Baptist minister at age 9, Nadine Ingels has known that God is at work in her life. Nadine trusts God and she has a special passion to see that children develop a strong faith and recognize the ways God works in their lives.
Nadine married Boone Ingels, Jr. and in 1967 they became members of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Together, they owned a farm known as Ingelside, a Century Farm in Pleasant Hill. But after Boone died in 2004, Nadine decided to sell the family farm, trusting God to bring her "the correct buyer." She rejected several offers before selling the farm to The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection of Leawood, Kansas, for use as a church retreat.
In 2007, Nadine established the Boone and Nadine Ingels Memorial Scholarship
Fund to provide scholarships for seminary students at St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City. Funds will be available to any student from Missouri with first preference to those from Cass County.
Nadine’s effort to help seminary students is based on a belief in life-long faith. “A minister can help children find God and develop a solid faith which will sustain them throughout their life, as God has sustained my life."

Charitable Remainder Trusts 2007 (Unitrusts & Annuity Trusts)
BenefIt your ChurCh A Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT) provides income to a designated person(s) for life or for a specific term of years. The remainder value of the trust benefits the church or charity(ies) designated by the donor. For maximum tax advantage, the CRT is usually funded with highly appreciated property that has a value over $50,000. The Foundation maintains a separate investment fund for the administration of CRTs and provides all annual tax reporting information. • Consider funding a CRT
with highly appreciated real estate – gain a tax deduction and a new income stream.
• Consider making a testamentary gift of a portion of your IRA or other qualified plan into a CRT and name a loved one to receive the income.
• The 10/10 Plan: Create a CRT that pays 10% income for 10 years. The income equals the initial gift value and your favorite charity receives the remainder.
To learn more or to request a customized illustration, please call
800-332-8238.
Charitable Remainder Trusts provide fixed payments and tax savings to the donor. The Foundation serves as trustee and distributes the remainder in support of the designated ministry listed in bold.
