CPL Pairap team welcomes you all to another challenging year in 2010. We look forward to a rewarding year working with you all both in POM and outstations. Hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas and New Year celebrations with your families. By-the way, month of January has gone and I hope some of us are still faithful to our New Year resolutions.

CPL Group’s new business development is crucial to our continued growth and success. This involves identifying new business opportunities such as new markets, new partnerships with other businesses, new ways to reach existing markets and exploiting these opportunities to grow our business so that we continue to deliver sustainable returns to our shareholders. The highlights of the new business developments include a new Stop and Stop Supermarket coming up soon in Badili, new City Pharmacy and City Digital shop in the Vision City (RH Building, in Waigani Drive) and another City Pharmacy store in Mendi, Southern Highlands province. These initiatives are aimed to provide innovative solutions for our customers in the respective business so that we become partners in value creation. We are confident that as a group we will continue to service PNG with basic health care needs and provide Port Moresby with the best supermarkets. As we have come to the beginning of another financial year, journey will be exciting and challenging. However, such challenges will positively enhance our ability to prosper as a diversified group. I acknowledge the strong leadership of our Management team and the spirit of dedication and hard work of the Staff of CPL Group. Our strong commitment to the various community services will be an important part of our activities.

In this issue we have brought to you some more exciting stories and news; and wow!!! Highlighting new City Pharmacy Opening in Popondetta. Enjoy reading coz, I enjoyed writing.

Oro! Oro! Oro! Oro means WELCOME. The people of Popondetta in the Oro Province, were the world’s biggest butterfly can be found, welcomed the 27th store in the fleet of City Pharmacy on the 27th of January this year. The entrance was already crowed with impatient people who could not wait for the store to open excitedly hoping to see the first of its kind. A week before the opening, the Area Retail Manager Ireneo Manangan and I arrived in Popondetta town. Seeing above the sky was just like a typical town in PNG where local people live a very simple life. The people of Oro Province as a whole commented that they are tired of waiting for efficient services in the hospital and buying medicines from the street sellers having no effect in their bodies. It is about time a professional legitimate pharmacy will take care of the health of the people of Oro Province.

I hope that our beloved company will bridge more people in their health care needs. It really melts a heart to see how the people treasured the first pharmacy in their town, assuring their best to protect it and make it grow for without city pharmacy, their life might be miserable like before. It is like a butterfly flying from flower to flower looking for a best flower, giant pharmacy company; City Pharmacy has found Popondetta as one of its flower. I would like to convey my sincere thanks to all the hard working team for their tireless efforts put together to make this opening a successful one.

SAFETY TIPS: By Ray Baloiloi Have you ever heard about LPG gas cylinder’s expiry date? Do you know that there is an expiry date (Physical life) for LPG cylinders? Expired Cylinders are not safe for use and may cause accidents. In this regard, please be cautious at the time of accepting any LPG cylinder from the vendor. Here is how we can check the expiry of LPG cylinders: On one of three side stems of the cylinder, the expiry date is coded Alpha numerically as follows A or B or C or D and some two digit number following this e.g. D06. The alphabet stands for quarters –

1. A for March (First Quarter) 2. B for June (Second Quarter) 3. C for September (Third

Quarter) 4. D for December (Forth

Quarter) The digits stand for the year till it is valid. Hence D06 would mean Dec of 2006. Please return back the cylinder that you get with a Expiry Date, they are prone to Leak and other Hazardous accidents…. The second example with D13 allows the cylinder to be in use until December 2013.

ASK YOUR PHARMACISTS… By Nelly Savia

City Pharmacy Limited has initiated an Ask your Pharmacist Program that is aimed at promoting medical awareness and educating the public on medicines that is accessible on shelves at the pharmacy. As now many customers are becoming more confused at the different medicines increasingly available on pharmacy shelves, pharmacists are available to give professional advice to a querying customer. The Ask Your Pharmacy Program is also a sure way of maximizing drug use with different types of medicines such as pain relievers. Pharmacist can give advice on safer and more appropriate alternatives depending on an individual’s medical need. Pharmacist can also give advice on suitable alternative to medicines and provide important advice to customers on how to properly use drugs to minimize risk of side effects and harmful results of prolong use. All in all, this program aims to enable customers to make proper decisions about their health care with home treatment. This interactive program in all City Pharmacy stores nationwide hopefully will encourage and build the vital link between pharmacist and their customers. Every month, there will be a topic of discussion where customers can consult pharmacists about or pick up brochures to take home as reference. Brochures are also been translated in pidgin so it appeals to the local population. This month’s topic is on Pain Relievers.

CONTROL YOUR SPEECH One of the amazing facts of life is that our speech determines our direction in life Not only does it determine our thinkin, but it influences so many other people with whom we have contact, day in and day out. We can say: “I hate you” or “I love you” They are only words, but powerful words, indeed. Which would you rather hear? Remember, what you say is what you get. To control your mouth you must first learn to control your mind. Right or wrong thinking is the basis for contolling your words. If we critisise people, we will reap criticism of ourselves. If we are judgemental with people, we will be judged. If we encourage people, we, in turn, will be couraged. If we show care, love and concern, these positive emotions will be turned to us. This is an inexplicable law of nature. The words you speak about yourself and your circumstances can literally change things. They can make the difference bwtween success and failure. Speech filled with fear, doubt, disbelief, and negativity can cause defeat in your life. On the other hand, words filled with optism, hope and belief will shape a positive future for you. While words alone are no substitute for hard work and preservance, they will, however, determine your attitude. And, remember your attitude confirms your vision. As Isaac Singer commented: “If you keep on saying things are going to be bad, you have a good chance of being a prophet.”. Two Magic words – ‘ No Problems’ As you learn to use alternative speech, you will see it transform your life and the lives of other people. Forget the words “I cant” but use intead “I can”. Don’t you love it when asked to perform a task, even a difficult one, respond with: “No problem!” And, if you haven’t got a good thing to say about a person, don’t say anything to say at all. Start today by determining to talk positively, and don’t be discouraged if you slip once in a while. Work on it for 30 days and see the dramatic difference it makes to your life.

WHAT YOU SAY IS WHAT YOU ARE
