K nowing that our campaign goal was within sight, longtime KML friends and benefactors Stephen and Tina Lang wanted to do
something significant that would engage the community and help provide needed funds for construction. Thus was born His Dark Land, a dramatic production of the fabled story of the American Expedition-
ary Force’s Lost Battalion and its commander Colonel Charles Whittlesey.
On Sunday, November 12 at Kinderhook Village Hall, acclaimed actor/write Stephen Lang will be joined by eminent historian Har-old Holzer, and virtuoso double-bassist Timo-thy Cobb for a spellbinding hour of theatre, his-tory, and music. Written to mark the centenary of America’s entry into WWI, His Dark Land
SPECIAL STEPHEN LANG BENEFIT PERFORMANCE: HIS DARK LAND
FROM THE CAMPAIGN STEERING COMMITTEE Banned Books WeekSeptember 24-30
September 24-30 is Banned Books Week! The American Library Association and libraries
nationwide use this time to promote
awareness of challenges to library materials, celebrate freedom of
speech, and draw attention to the
harms of censorship. We’ll have a display of Banned Books this year and you can get your own personalized mug shot taken holding your favorite banned book!
unearths the mystery, confronts controversy, and dramatizes the story of the fabled Lost Battal-ion. Ticket prices are $35 for the performance ($20 for Veterans), and $75 for the performance and a meet & greet cocktail party hosted at the Kinderhook Memorial Library. All funds raised will go to the Library’s Capital Campaign.
“We are so grateful to Stephen and Tina for their stalwart support of the Library,” said Board President Gary Spielmann. “It is with a deep sense of honor and pride that we present this work of Stephen’s, which marks such an important point in our nation’s history. The Li-brary is committed to doing its part to remem-ber the tremendous sacrifices made by all who fought and to ensure that our community has continuous access to materials and programs that connect us meaningfully with our history.”

AdultsThe program enables donors’
names to be etched on attrac-tive stone pavers, available in two sizes, that will be installed in the outdoor plaza area to be located outside the new large community meeting room and Children’s Library. Forms for the program are available at the front desk and the cost is $100 for a small paver and $250 for the larger paver. A number of donors have already purchased pavers in their children’s names. “We think of the pavers as a wonderful gift to one’s children or family,” said Campaign Co-Chair Marian Sole.
While this giving program will last through much of con-struction, we ask that you order your pavers well in advance of installation so that we may have adequate time to receive them.
Naming Opportunities
Although the Children’s Library, the Reading Porch, and other key rooms have been reserved thanks to generous donors, several special naming opportunities remain available. To find out more, please con-sider meeting with a Campaign Committee member to discuss what may be right for you.
Coalescing a family com-mitment around a naming opportunity (e.g. Computer Workstations, Seating Areas, etc.) to honor the family name is a wonderful gift that you can give to yourselves and the com-munity. We thank you for your consideration and if you would like to discuss a gift (all are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law), please contact the Campaign office at (518) 758-6192.
