MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
SOMETHING TO CELEBRATE! Every year our 5/6 students complete an
“Attitudes to School Survey”. The survey is
designed to assist schools in gaining an
understanding of students' perceptions and
experience of school. The survey asks the
students to rate how they feel in each of
the areas. Scores are represented as
percentages. The higher the percentage,
the better our performance. As you can
see we have made some significant
improvements across many areas.
Of particular interest is the major
improvement made in the Teaching and
Learning factors. It is clear our 5/6 students
feel connected to their peers, their
teachers and their school. Certainly
something to celebrate as a whole school
community!
PARENT OPINION SURVEY Thank you to those families who have
returned their Parent Opinion Survey.
We really do appreciate you taking time
out to give us feedback on how things are
going. To those who haven’t returned their
survey they are due back this Friday.
All returned surveys give your family an
opportunity to win a canteen voucher for
all siblings. Please don’t hesitate to call me
if you have any questions.
ATHLETICS DAY Well didn’t the weather fairy work in our
favour last Friday! A fantastic day with lots
of fun, competition and great sporting
attitudes. A big thank you to Mr Mac, staff,
ANZ bank volunteers and all our parent
helpers for what was a wonderful day out
at Moonee Valley Athletics track.
Congratulations to all our students who
participated with great enthusiasm. For the
senior students Mr Mac will now prepare

3-6 DOXA MALMSBURY CAMP
19 OCTOBER TO 21 OCTOBER The Doxa Malmsbury Camp program has an outdoor
education focus which offers students the opportunity
to experience a variety of challenging and fun
activities such as ropes courses, a climbing tower and
the giant swing. Only selected schools get an
invitation to this camp as it is heavily subsidised to
allow families to access an affordable camping
experience for their children. Unfortunately we are
only able to take 65 students so we will allocate
places to students who return their note and deposit
as first in, first placed. The note will come home next
week with a requirement of a $50 deposit.
The total cost of the camp is $140.
For those parents who applied for the CSEF Financial
Assistance you may choose to use this money to
cover the cost of the Camping Program.

THE GOOD SCHOOLS GUIDE - VICTORIA 2016
Are you thinking about Secondary Schools for your
children? We have a couple of copies of the Good
Schools Guide which gives parents comprehensive
information about Victorian Secondary Schools to
help you and your child make a decision about
where to go after Primary School. Copies are
available for parents to borrow from the office.
Lyn Read
Principal
Going to school every day is the single most important part of your
child’s education. Students learn new things are school every
day – missing school puts them behind.
Why it’s important
We all want our students to get a great education, and the building
blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school
each and every day.
If students miss school regularly, they miss out on learning the fundamental skills that will set them up for
success in the later years of school.
There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and
can affect their educational outcomes.
Each missed day is associated with progressively lower achievement in numeracy, writing and reading.
Remember, every day counts. If your child must miss school, speak with your classroom teacher as
early as possible.
Kylie Champion
Assistant Principal
Thanks to Eril and the army of
volunteers we have finished
processing hundreds of new
books ready for students to start
borrowing. On Monday we have scheduled
time for classes to visit the library to check out the
new titles and create their own wishlist of books they
look forward to reading. We have allocated 9:00 –
9:30am (after assembly) for parents to come and
have a look at what we have purchased. Funds from
the voluntary Library fund were used to purchase
some of the books. A big thank you to Eril, Michelle,
Hayley, Felicity and Mandy for all the time and effort
they gave processing the books.
Gardening Club ‘Cook up’ Our Gardening Club have been producing such fantastic vegetables, Ms Read came up with the idea of
having a ‘cook up’. It was decided to make a chicken stir fry to share with the gardeners and other students who
would like a taste. So the chicken and marinade was bought (unfortunately we don’t grow chickens in our garden)
and the vegies were harvested. We had so many different vegies for our stir fry including carrots, peas, broccoli,
spinach, leeks, spring onions and eggplant. So many children had the opportunity to taste the yummy vegetables
that have been growing in our school garden, and lots asked for seconds! Special thanks to our gardening helpers
Helen, Gus and Michelle. We are looking forward to the next ‘Cook Up!’
Prep L & Prep/1 R CAME TO visit US AT THE Melbourne Aquarium
On the 27th
of July the year 6 police
buddies came to Sunshine Primary
School to meet their ‘little’ buddies.
Not all the buddies were available to
come but we were extremely grateful
for the ones that did. It was a fun
experience including a tour of the
school led by the grade 6’s, a talk
about what their job is about and a
race between the 6’s and police
buddies (which the students won).
All in all it was an elating experience
that I’m sure the year 6’s will
remember.
