c-books production

The M C Squared project is creating beyond state-of-the-art tools for the collaborative design of digital online educational materials. The focus is on Social Creativity in the design of a new kind of mediation intended to enhance Creativity in Mathematical Thinking; we call it 'the c-book' (c is for creative). The c-book is a digital medium, which extends e-book technologies to a) contain Widget instances from diverse Widgets, b) support collaborative asynchronous on-line design and authoring (the content of a c-book can easily be changed) c) afford configurable Learning Analytics, allowing each learner’s behaviour and learning outcomes to be analyzed, in order to give individualized learning feedback.The c-book author and player is available in six different languages (Greek, English, French, Spanish, German, Dutch). Project c-book productions contain diverse Widget Factories such as Cinderella, E-Slate, Geogebra, Malt+, EpsilonWriter, among others.

Social Creativity

The outcomes of the M C Squared project are the result of the joint work of a network of interdisciplinary researchers and practitioners operating as a socio-technical environment.Social Creativity is supported at two different levels:

Through the design process: four different Communities of Interest (CoIs) in four different countries - including diverse creative profiles (technology developers, creative industries, researchers specialized in creativity in math education, math teachers and students) - fuel the development of the c-books.Through the product itself: authorability and communication features enable users to achieve a collective constructive work.

M C Squared brings together an exceptional combination of features in a unique Constructionist Environment affording Creative Mathematical Thinking:

Widget consistency and diversity Authoring of content and feedback.Interoperability: c-book resources allow the inclusion of Widgets from different authoring systems (Widget factories).Original activities and new way to mesh reading with mathematical expressivity: c-books are thought to never reach an end, to be used, re-mixed, expanded and exchanged.Learning analytics functionality provides designers and users with data to evaluate and understand progresses and trends quickly and easily.Multilingual system: c-books are available in six different languages.Collaboration tools: the c-book environment allows designers/teachers to collaboratively design student c-books through chat facility, wiki functionality and threaded forum functionalities.Extensibility: open communication protocol supports the integration of further Widget Factories.
