A PET/CT from Tower is...

A revolutionary method for

diagnosing many diseases that

are normally unseen by

conventional imaging. A Tower

PET/CT combines the two

non-invasive procedures, PET

(Positron Emission Tomography)

and CT (Computed Tomography)

into one single scan. The PET

scan reveals potential diseases,

like cancer, at the biological

level. The CT scan reveals

three-dimensional images of your

anatomy by using a combination

of X-rays and computers. The

result is an extremely accurate

exam that allows your physician

to diagnose a problem by locating

a tumor or diseased area with

unparalleled specificity. A Tower

PET/CT exam can further assist

your physician by predicting the

likely result of various treat-

ment options. Some insurance

companies are reimbursing for

a PET/CT procedure, including

Medicare. Check with your

insurance company regarding

coverage for a PET/CT exam at

Tower Diagnostic Center.

“As medical

practitioners

who work in

early detection

of cancer, this

is the most

advanced

diagnostic tool

available.” – Dr. Hemant D. Chheda Nuclear Medicine Director Tower Diagnostic Center

A PET/CT works by...Revealing changes in your body’s chemistry. In cancer,

these changes can occur before a mass or tumor starts to

organize and form. Before the exam, patients are given a

small amount of radioactive glucose. About an hour later,

when the scan begins, the PET/CT exam will reveal where

the glucose has been metabolized, indicating the function

and malignant potential of cancer cells, or lesions. In most

cases, the PET/CT exam can identify cancer cells before

they become a tumor. In a single PET/CT scan, your

physician may be able to determine:

• If a mass is malignant or benign • If treatment is effective or needs modifying • If there are more tumors unseen by conventional imaging

A PET/CT fromTower can...

Lung Cancer EpilepsyBreast Cancer Alzheimer’s DiseaseSkin Cancer Brain TumorsColon Cancer Head and NeckEsophageal Lymphoma

During your PET/CT exam...

If you are Claustrophobic...

You will remain awake but lie as still as possible. If you

are having a brain scan, you must remain awake because

your brain works differently when you are asleep.

Please ask your physician for advice if you feel anxiety

or are claustrophobic. A PET/CT is similar to other

diagnostic procedures. You may have a family member

or friend accompany you to your PET/CT. However, if

you receive medication for anxiety from your physician,

you will not be able to drive yourself home.

You may eat and drink immediately. We recommend you

drink lots of fluids after the exam to flush the radioactive

glucose from your system. You may resume normal daily

activities immediately unless you received any medica-

tion or sedation. A Tower Board Certified Radiologist will

review your PET/CT results following your exam. Those

results will be given to your physician.

After your PET/CT exam...

Assist your physician in the early diagnosis of diseases and neurological problems like:

PET imaging identifies a possible tumor.

PET/CT reveals accurate location& other potential areas of cancer.
