SUMMARY
Geological, magnetometer and electromagnetic surveys were carried out on
behalf of Lytton Minerals Ltd. by Derry, Michener, Booth and Wahl on the Victor
Stenlund claim group in the Heron Bay area, Pic Township, Thunder Bay Mining
Division, Ontario, during the period September 10 through September 29, 1983,
inclusive.
On the western portion of the claim group, which is underlained by interbedded
feldspar porphyry, basaltic and minor dacitic flows, VLF electromagnetic surveys
outlined a relatively strong east-southeast trending anomaly which extends from line
0+00 westwards to line 8+OOW. East of line 0+00, the anomaly is truncated; this
truncation suggests that although the quadrature response of this anomaly is limited,
it may reflect a bedrock source.
The eastern part of the claim group is covered by thick glacial overburden,
however, magnetic data indicates that it is probably underlain by a massive mafic
intrusion which limits the potential of this area. In addition, no significant conductors
were outlined here.
A follow-up programme of induced polarization is recommended to test the
anomaly in the western portion of the claim group.

INTRODUCTION
The following report details the results of the geological, magnetometer and
electromagnetic surveys carried out on behalf of Lytton Minerals Limited by Derry,
Michener, Booth 6c Wahl (DMBW) on the Victor Stenlund claim group (Figure 1).
The claim group is situated in the Heron Bay area, Pic Township, Thunder
Bay Mining Division and consists of the following unpatented mining claims (Figure 2).
TB657112 TB657115
TB657113 TB657116
TB657114
The property is readily accessible by car southeast from Marathon via Highway
17 and then Highway 629 to Heron Bay.
LINE CUTTING
The line cutting was carried out by R 6c R Industries Limited during the
period of September 10 through September 20, 1983, inclusive. The baseline for
the survey grid is orientated at 090 O with grid lines trending 000 O at 100 m intervals
along the baseline. Twenty-five metre stations were established on all lines. A
total of 10.8 km of line was cut.

GEOLOGICAL SURVEYS
The Heron Bay area is underlain by a west-northwest striking, steeply
northward dipping succession of felsic to intermediate volcanic rocks comprising
flows and pyroclastics with some interbedded metasedimentary rocks. These rocks
are of Archean age (about 2.7 billion years old) and have been intruded by the
Heron Bay Batholith as well as a number of younger gabbro and felsite dykes.
Most of the property is underlain by thick glacial cover, except in the west
on claim TB657115, where a sequence of interbedded feldspar porphyry flows, basaltic
flows and lesser dacitic tuffs in exposed. These units strike at approximately 080 O
and dip steeply northwards.

GEOPHYSICAL SURVEYS
The ground geophysical surveys were carried out during the period from
September 18 through September 29, 1983, inclusive, under the direct supervision
of W. N. Pearson, Ph.D.
Magnetometer Survey
The magnetometer survey was carried out using a Scintrex MP-2 total field
proton precession magnetometer. The total magnetic field intensity data was
recorded at 12.5 m stations at an elevation of 2 m above ground level, with a
sensitivity of j^ l nT. Dinurnal fluctuations were monitored using a Scintrex MBS-
2 base station recording magnetometer and all data was adjusted accordingly. The
magnetic data is presented as corrected station values, above the local background
of 58,000 nT and as a contoured interpretation of these data.
The eastern part of the property is characterized by moderately high magnetic
relief, ranging from 2100 to 2400 nT. This is part of a broad regional anomaly
which probably reflects a massive mafic intrusion. To the west the magnetic pattern
is more sinuous reflecting the interbedded intermediate to mafic volcanics; higher
values up to 2100 nT occur over the more mafic units as compared to a background
of 1700 nT over more felsic portions.
The magnetic high on line 0+00 at station 19+OON is likely caused by a small
gabbro dyke. Magnetic contours between lines 0+00 and 1+OOE are partially truncated,
suggesting that a north-south trending fault may be present between these two lines.

VLF Electromagnetic Survey
The VLF Electromagnetic survey was carried out using a Geonics EM-16
unit. The VLF in-phase and quadrature response parameters were recorded with an
accuracy of * 196 at 25 m stations. The transmitting station used during the survey
is located in Cutler, Maine and broadcasts at an assigned frequency of 17.8 Hz.
All data was plotted as line profiles at a vertical scale of l cm = 1096.
In the northwestern and central part of the claim group, a broad anomaly
extends from lines 8W eastwards to line 0+00 where it appears to be abruptly
truncated by a probable fault. Although the quadrature response associated with
this anomaly is relatively flat, the apparent truncation of the conductor to the east
suggests that it may reflect a bedrock source rather than conductive overburden.
VLF electromagnetic response in the eastern portion of the property is very
flat with only weak in-phase anomalies reflecting weakly conductive overburden.

CONCLUSIONS
The western portion of the property from line 0+00 to line 8+OOW is the
most favourable area for follow-up work particularly the relatively strong east-
southeast trending VLF electromagnetic conductor which trends diagonally across
this area. Although the quadrature response of this anomaly is limited, the apparent
truncation east of line 0+00 suggest that it may reflect a bedrock conductor.
The eastern part of the claim group, although covered by thick glacial
overburden appears to be underlain by a massive mafic intrusion limiting the potential
of this area. In addition, no significant conductors were outlined here.
RECOMMENDATIONS
A follow-up programme of induced polarization is recommended to test the
anomaly in the western portion of the property.
