That by the Law of Scotland, poor persons in the petitioner's circumstances are entitled to be alimented, and the Heritors and Kirk-Session are obliged to provide such a sum as shall procure for them food, clothing, fuel, and a house or place of re- sidence,-being all included in " needful sustentation," to which the statutes respect- ing the poor entitle them. / . That the petitioner has not received the aliment thus provided by Law, but has been almost entirely left to depend on such casual supplies as benevolent persons, who may hear of ?distressed circumstances, may occasionally be inclined to bestow.
