Helpful Terms/Financial Aid

Understanding Your Financial AidTo better understand your financial aid award, please review the following items.

Institutional Grants/Scholarships: Institutional Grants and Scholarships are awarded by Lindsey WilsonCollege. For more information, see www.lindsey.edu/financialaid. Federal Grants: This federally funded grant (Pell Grant) is awarded on the basis of financial need. This grantis the foundation upon which all other aid is based.

Kentucky State Grants: These grants, funded by the Commonwealth of Kentucky, are awarded according toneed to Kentucky residents attending Kentucky colleges and is subject to availability of funds. The grants areavailable as a Kentucky Tuition Grant (KTG) or College Access Program Grant (CAP).

KEES Scholarship: KEES scholarships are estimated based on your current award prior to your high schoolgraduation and final grades. If your KEES scholarship changes after your final high school grades are re-ported, your institutional aid will be adjusted accordingly to give you the same bottom line. KHEAA requiresstudents to maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA while in college to remain eligible for the KEES Scholar-ship each year.

Federal Student Work Study: Students work on campus approximately 11 hours a week to earn money for tuition, room and board expenses. There is a 6% tax that will be deducted from the wages earned. For example, a $2,500 workstudy award will result in approximately $150 being withheld for taxes. Earningsare applied directly to student’s account.

Federal Direct Subsidized Loan: This need-based program enables students to borrow an educational loanfrom the Department of Education. The loan is insured by the federal government, and the federal governmentpays the interest while the borrower is enrolled in school at least half-time, during a grace period, and duringauthorized periods of deferment. Interest will begin to accrue from the beginning of the repayment period (sixmonths after a student graduates or leaves school). The interest rate is variable, with a threshold of 8.25%.All students that accept the Federal Direct Subsidized Loan must complete the online Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note (MPN) at www.studentloans.govThis loan will have an origination fee (1.062%) which will be deducted from the total amount of the loan.

Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan: This is a non-need-based educational loan from the Department of Education. The student is responsible for the interest during in-school and deferment periods. Six months after the student graduates or leaves school, payments on the principal and interest begin. The interest rate isvariable, with a threshold of 8.25%. Quarterly interest payments can be made while the students are in school,or students may allow interest to accrue. All students that accept the Federal Direct Subsidized Loanmust complete the online Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note (MPN) at www.studentloans.gov This loan will have an origination fee (1.062%) which will be deducted from the total amount of the loan.

Helpful Terms/Financial Aid


VerificationEvery year some FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) applicants are required to verify informa-tion submitted on their FAFSA. This process is important to ensure the proper amount of aid is going to themost qualified candidates. If selected for verification, the student must provide the information requested orhe/she will not be eligible for state or federal aid. KHEAA (Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority)has partnered with Lindsey Wilson College to make sure this process goes as smoothly as possible. To startthe process go to kheaaverify.com or you may also contact KHEAA with additional questions at 1-855-272-8771.

• 2017 Tax Return Transcript - A required form of documentation for students who are selected for verification. Obtain an official copy of 2017 Tax Return Transcripts by one of these three methods: 1) Visit www.irs.gov and follow the instructions. 2) Call 1-800-908-9946 and follow the voice prompts. 2) Or Complete and mail a 4506T-EZ to the IRS.

You must wait at least two weeks after electronically filing your tax return before requesting a Tax Return Transcript.

Veterans AffairsLWC provides a Veterans Affairs Coordinator, Kachet Manners, whose office is located in the Financial Aidbuilding. The VA Coordinator can be contacted at (270) 384-7449 or [email protected]. Our office doesnot work for the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA). We certify enrollment of veterans and dependents tothe DVA.

Interest is notcharged, however late payments may result in a late fee.

Academic Success CenterThe Academic Success Center is located in the Everett Building. The Academic Success Center houses FirstYear Experience, peer tutoring and a computer lab. Students are encouraged to utilize the ASC as a resourcefor improving study strategies and other academic needs including tutoring in all subjects except mathematicsand writing.

FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCEFirst Year Experience (FYE) offers a unique combination of programming geared toward acclimating freshmeninto the total life of Lindsey Wilson College. The mission of the First Year Experience is to empower freshmento become academically successful and socially responsible students at Lindsey Wilson College.

FYE Academic AdvisingAcademic Advising is designed to help students reach their educational and career goals. During an advisingsession, the student can expect to:

Students with DisabilitiesLindsey Wilson College accepts students with disabilities and provides reasonable accommodation that will fa-cilitate success. Depending on the nature of the disability, some students may need to take a lighter courseload and may need more than four years to graduate. Immediately after acceptance, students must identifyand document the nature of their disabilities with Mr. Ben Martin (270-384-7479), the Learning & Physical Dis-abilities Coordinator. It is the responsibility of the student to provide the Learning & Physical Disabilities Coor-dinator with appropriate materials documenting the learning disability. Learning disabilities are typicallydocumented by a recent high school Individualized Education Program (IEP) and results from testing con-ducted by a psychologist, psychiatrist or a qualified, licensed person. The College does not provide assess-ment services for students who may be learning disabled. Although Lindsey Wilson provides limited personalcounseling for all students, the College does not have structured programs available for students with emo-tional or behavioral disabilities. Mathematics Tutoring CenterThe Mathematics Center is located in Room 129 of the Fugitte Science Center and is usually open each weekday with evening hours Monday through Thursday as well as Sunday afternoons. Schedules are posted at theMathematics Center's entrance and are included in many mathematics courses' syllabi.

The Center is equipped with computers running a number of software applications used in mathematicscourses. These programs offer homework practice, analysis tools and testing. Students may use the comput-ers any time the Mathematics Center is open.

Tutoring is offered to students free of charge. Appointments are not necessary, but if a student uses the Math-ematics Center often, they are encouraged to make an appointment. Qualified mathematics tutors are avail-able for one-on-one sessions and individual tutors have regularly scheduled work times. Schedules of tutorsare posted in the Center.

Writing CenterThe Writing Center is located in the W.W. Slider Humanities Building, room 200.

The LWC Writing Center is to assist all members of our academic community in developing their writing in asupportive, creative and caring environment. Our trained student writing consultants work with writers on aone-to-one basis, discussing writing at any point in the process, from generating ideas to drafting, revising topolishing.

We work with each writer, considering his or her long-term goals. Ideally, writers gradually improve with everyconsultation as they examine their writing processes, habits and choices. We understand that no two writersare alike, and our dedicated staff works to bring out the best possible writer in each person regardless of age,cultural background or writing experience.

Bonner ScholarsBased in Princeton, N.J., the Bonner Program is a national initiative that supports service programs at U.S.colleges and universities. LWC became a college that provides a Bonner Leader Program in 2005 and became a Bonner Community Scholar Program in 2011.

In agreement with the Bonner Foundation, the Lindsey Wilson Bonner Program's mission is to transform thelives of our students and members, the life of our campuses, our local community and the world through service and leadership. Bonner Scholars exhibit academic focus, social consciousness, faith-driven activismand are self-motivated.

The Bonner Scholar Program is funded through LWC and the Bonner Foundation. The Bonner Scholars wouldnot function without cooperation from the community. STUDENT SERVICES INFORMATIONThe Office of Student Services exists to compliment the academic mission of Lindsey Wilson College by pro-viding a holistic experience that contributes to the cultural, emotional, intellectual, moral, physical, profes-sional, social and spiritual development of students.

Student Code of Conduct Students shall be responsible for becoming familiar with the College rights and responsibilitiesas set forth in the Student Handbook. It is presumed that Lindsey Wilson College students, as members of theacademic community on the main campus and any extended campus, shall exercise due regard for learning,the law and the rights of others. Circumstances which may lead to disciplinary action, suspension or dismissalfrom the College, and which are otherwise prohibited can be found at www.lindsey.edu/studenthandbook.

Public Safety and SecurityThe Department of Public Safety is located on the corner of the Student Union Building (SUB). Officers are onduty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our mission is to work in partnership with the College community througha continuing commitment to safety and education. The department is committed to protecting the lives andproperty of the College community.

The department strives to foster an environment where diversity is celebrated; citizens of all races, creeds, re-ligions and nationalities are made welcome and rights are preserved.

The Department of Public Safety and Security is responsible for assisting in the enforcement of federal andstate laws through its authority established by Kentucky State Law as revised and as directed by Lindsey Wil-son administration for all safety/security and other emergency responses as may be deemed necessary onthe campus. Officers patrol the campus in vehicles and on foot.

Clery ActThe Department of Public Safety and Security prepares the annual security and fire report to comply with theJeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act. The full text of this report can belocated on our web site at the address below, click on Annual Security Report. This report includes campuscrime, arrest and referral statistics reported to the Department of Public Safety and Security, designated cam-pus officials and the Columbia Police Department. Each year, an e-mail notification is sent to all enrolled stu-dents, faculty and staff that provides the web address to access the annual security and fire report. RaiderBucksRaiderBucks are a safe, efficient and practical way to pay for things on campus. RaiderBucks allow the LWCID card to serve as a personal on-campus debit card. To make a purchase, just present or swipe your card atparticipating campus facilities. It's that easy! The amount of your purchase will then be deducted from the stu-dent’s RaiderBucks account. No more ATM fees for cash withdraws and no more lugging your checkbookaround.

RaiderBucks are convenient to use and safer than carrying cash. You, or the student, can easily access andmanage the account online anytime via the Blue Raider Portal. TheRaiderBucks account is automatically available when the student’sLWC Card is created. All you have to do is add money to the card.

RaiderBucks also make a perfect gift for students. Parents and familymembers can add money to a student's RaiderBucks account as well.All they will need to know is the LWC ID Number as it appears on theLWC ID Card and birth date.

Counseling Services Personal and confidential counseling is provided by a licensed professional from The Adanta CounselingGroup and by the College Chaplain and Assistant Chaplains. Whether it is a religious question, a personal relationship issue, a career decision or the need for an unbiased opinion, counselors are available and readyto provide assistance. Referral to outside agencies is also available when requested or needed.

• Services are offered free of charge to all LWC students. Campus NurseThe Campus Nurse is located in the Blue Raider Sports Medicine office, which is in the lower level of PhillipsResidence Hall. The office is open to all students for the purpose of consultation, administering prescribedmedication (e.g., allergy shots), checking blood pressure and providing overall health information and generalminor treatments and referrals. Office hours are posted on the door and on the Residence Hall bulletinboards.

Blue Raider Sports MedicineThe office is located in the lower level of Phillips Residence Hall. The center will maintain consistent hours ofoperation in order to provide students with greater accessibility to the campus medical staff. The staff will pro-vide CPR and First Aid Training for Residence Life and Public Safety staff and will continue to provide for thecampus nurse to ensure optimum care of our students.

Blue Raider Sports Medicine also oversees the College's insurance plan and provides guidance for students,faculty and parents regarding the use of the student insurance plan.

Service CenterThe Service Center is located in the Cralle Student Union Building (SUB). The Service Center provides ahelpful and courteous switchboard staff, state of the art phone services and photocopying services and per-forms timely mail distribution for on and off campus mail. Students may also purchase stamps and drop offpackages. • Mail Services Students will be notified by campus email and given a notice in their mailbox when a package arrives. Photo I.D. is required to claim mail/packages.• Bluegrass Cellular The Service Center at Lindsey Wilson College is an authorized agent of Bluegrass Cellular. Cellular packages begin at $20.00 a month• Photocopier Service Each copy is 10 cents. The copiers are located in the J.L. Turner and Library buildings.

Computer CenterThe Computer Center is responsible for maintaining computer resources for faculty, staff and students. It is located on the lower level of the Dr. Robert and Carol Goodin Nursing & Counseling Center. They are also responsible for the following services:• Campus network and all networks and devices attached to it. • Providing wireless access to the Internet from all residence halls, classrooms and public areas on campus. All students are given a free network and email account. • Gaming devices, such as a PlayStation, Xbox or PSP must be registered through the Computer Center in order to gain access to our network.• Support the telephone system and any problems or questions that may arise regarding local or long-distance phone service.• Providing answers to all technology questions.• All students can download a free copy of Microsoft Office 365. They do have to meet certain criteria, but here is the link: https://products.office.com/en-us/student/office-in-education Click on "Find out if you're eligible" to get started. Dining Services• Robert D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center Cranmer Dining Center serves 19 all-you-can-eat meals per week -- buffet-style breakfast, lunch and dinner; sandwiches, soups and desserts.

Student Government AssociationThe Lindsey Wilson College Student Government Association (SGA) is responsible for coordinating studentclubs and organizations for the purpose of student development and student leadership. Officers are electedin the spring semester for the following academic year. SGA members represent the recognized student or-ganizations with additional members-at-large. Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA)Student records are maintained under the provision of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974(FERPA). This federal act seeks to protect students' rights to access and to privacy by limiting access to stu-dent records to those persons authorized by the FERPA regulations or by individual students. Admissions, fi-nancial aid and student service files are retained for five years following the last date of enrollment.

The College reserves the right to contact a student's parent (or a physician of the student's choice) when, inthe opinion of the College, notification is necessary to protect the health, well-being or safety of a student orother persons.

Access to RecordsStudents may inspect all records pertaining to them which are maintained by the College. The only excep-tions to this access are those records exempted under FERPA:

• Directory information, as listed in this publication, is public unless the student requests, in writing, to the Registrar's Office that all or part of such information not be published• Name, local and home address, telephone numbers and date of birth• Dates of attendance, major field of study and degrees and awards received and• Participation in recognized activities, organizations and sports (including weight and height or membership on athletic teams).
