Club NewsThe new swimming season is well and truly upon us and with summer just around the corner it is time to bothreflect on a busy winter and look forward to things to come. This is also an opportunity to remind parents, supporters and swimmers of our collective responsibilities.

Since Nationals finished in April many things have occurred

A new committee has been appointed and is up and running. We have a new coach and he is really having a great impact on the swimmers. We have a number of new families on board and the enthusiasm they and their swimmers bring is

great. We have variety in the program with the introduction of Pilates on a Friday (some of the boys are

finding muscles and tendons they didnt even know existed)! Thanks Tania. We conducted an extremely successful short course meet which was not only a great fund raiser,

but a terrific advertisement for our club. Our swimmers competed in both the Brisbane and Queensland short course meets was well as

the John Paul College meet earlier in the year. They did us all proud!! We have 4 swimmers currently away with Drew at the National Schools swimming carnival in

Adelaide. We have a new underwater camera to help with technique and are working with Drew on other

equipment he would like to have.

From a club perspective we are bidding for the date for our long course meet and continuallylooking at ways we can improve the club for the most important people in it, our swimmers.

Fingers crossed, Andrew Murphy has been using his well hidden charm and has a successfulbusiness ready to provide some significant financial support this year. Thanks Andrew.

Our responsibilitiesWith all this happening, it is timely for us as a committee to not only remember ourselves but also remind allparent supporters and swimmers of our commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for ourswimmers to both achieve their goals and have fun.

The Club handbook is available at the club website and contains a myriad of information including our codeof conduct for all concerned with the club. We take this as our most serious obligation and both the club andeach family when you signed up, agreed to be also bound by the SAL ( Swimming Australia Limited) Childand Member welfare policy, which deals with many issues including

HarassmentBullyingUse of Social mediaMany other things.

A link to these policies can be found on both the Swimming Australia and Swimming Queensland Web sites.

The club handbook has the details of how to raise a concern should you have one as well as the contact

details of all committee members. As a parent, you can be a member of Swimming Queensland by registering as a parent. This does not costanything, but gets you access to information, and boosts our club numbers.

As a club we also have some individual responsibilities such as not having parents on pool deck duringtraining. This distracts the coach and the swimmers and has been a long held policy of the club. From timeto time you might see a committee member doing something on pool deck but this will always be around clubrequirements. Our most precious assets are our swimmers (sometimes we know it is hard to remember this)! Lets all worktogether to ensure they both learn the value of hard work and responsibility to each other whilst at the sametime have a great social environment in which to grow.

Thank-you again for making this a successful start to our new era as a club.

As a committee we are always keen to hear your views and any ideas.
