Dear Parents/ Carers

Welcome to our final newsletter of this term. We have finished the term with our annual school production. If you were able to attend, I am sure you will agree that the performance of Beauty and the Beast was exceptional. There were performances from the students that would not go amiss in the West End. There was comedy, drama, dance and some fantastic singing! There were also many students who made the show possible through their work supporting the cast, sound and lighting. The costumes were amazing! I found myself humming ‘Be Our Guest’ this morning on the way to work!

Students in Year 9 have received their option choice forms. The programme for the Year 10 examinations is included in the newsletter. I look forward to seeing Year 11 students attending the wide range of revision sessions that will be on offer over the Easter break.

Students may have noticed the subtle changes in the packaging for our foods. We have introduced biodegradable cutlery and containers for our grab and go food. Students can now buy their pasta or grab and go food knowing that they will not be adding to plastic waste. We will be continuing to endeavour to increase our recycling and reducing our footprint.

I hope you have an excellent break and I look forward to seeing students back in school on Monday 9th April.

I have a confession to make, I've never seen either of the Beauty and the Beast films. But after watching this extraordinary musical, I don't think I need to.

When I first joined the Beauty and the Beast crew, I didn't know what to expect. Sure, I knew it was going to be high quality, but to what extent? Then, I saw the first run through and I was in awe. Utter disbelief and amazement trickled through my spine upon hearing Belle's magnificent singing. Whilst I fell in love with the Beast's heart-warming personality, I fell in love with the production, too. As a child, I always found the sidekick to the antagonist the funniest, and upon seeing Lefou - the bumbling

companion who gets undeservingly mistreated by the alpha male Gaston - I realised he was the one who made me laugh the most. Though the harsh treatment Lefou receives is unfair, the way Gaston conducts his mean-spirited character is astonishing; a persona as arrogant as Gaston could be quite hard to pull off, but with the sheer talent he has, it looks like a walk in the park.

Cogsworth and Lumiere – an iconic duo, destined to make you laugh till your sides ache. With Cogsworths’ properness juxtaposing Lumiere’s hospitality, they’re an unlikely yet inseparable pair. Those two roles require a natural sense of humour, and they execute it to perfection.

The actors and actresses clicked together both off and on stage. Whilst they were in character, all relationships that were had to be formed were formed without a choice. However off stage, the friendships formed naturally, and it was just as much fun. When mistakes were made, instead of mocking each other for it, they laughed.

What truly makes the scene magical, is the dancers. They may not be the centre of attention if they’re surrounded by the principals, but their excellence does not go unnoticed. Their beautifully synced moves turned heads as their grace completed the scene faultlessly.

To make a show outstanding, you need not only excellent actors but an excellent backstage crew. Miss Phipps organised the exceptionally skilled music band and turned just some chords on a sheet to an elegant soundtrack to the characters’ lives.

If I could sum up Miss Cowling - our brilliant director - in one word, I would say determined, determined to make our musical perfect. Without her, I don’t think this show could have been as amazing as it turned out to be. But if you think you could do a better job… well, be our guest.

Reba Nell McEntire (born March 28, 1955) is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and record producer. She began her career in the music industry as a high school student singing in the Kiowa High School band,

on local radio shows with her siblings, and at rodeos. While a sophomore in college, she performed the National Anthem at the National Rodeo in Oklahoma City and caught the attention of country artist Red Steagall who brought her to Nashville, Tennessee. She signed a contract with Mercury Records a year later in 1975. She released her first

solo album in 1977 and released five additional studio albums under the label until 1983.

Sports Highlights

RugbyYear 7 and Year 8 played their last game of the season against Robert Smyth at home. Year 7 won 60 points to 5 and we would like to thank Ellen Bucknall 11HS for refereeing the game. A special mention must go to Noah Green who scored four tries during the game. Year 8 narrowly lost 30 points to 20 in a very hard-fought battle.

Spring Games ChampionshipsDodgeball – The following students Joe O’Donnell, George Haberfield, George Garnett, Cal Hume, Ted Reynolds, Ollie Winder, Jack Wells and Luke Sherwood all took part in the grand final for this year’s dodgeball competition. They won 10 games out of 11 with the 11th game being the final, therefore came second in the county.

Seated Volleyball - The following students Aaron Richards, Toby Thompson, Rueben Williams, Jess Skerritt, Kurtis Tannahill, Noah Gibbs and Tyga Smethurst-Todd all took part in the grand final for this year’s seated volleyball competition. After winning their preliminary rounds, they lost in the semi-final to come third overall in the county.

Italy Sports Fest 2018We would like to wish all the Year 9 and 10 students representing Lutterworth High School in Italy the best of luck in their respective sports of basketball, football, rugby and netball. All students will play two matches against European opposition as well as take part in two training sessions with professional coaches. The tour will also include a day in Milan and a tour around the famous San Siro stadium, home to AC Milan and Inter Milan.
