Dear Parents/Carers
Welcome to our first weekly newsletter of the new half-term. As always, it has been a very busy week at Lutterworth High School.
We took delivery of our new music steel pans yesterday. The students have had their first lesson this morning and have had a fantastic time.
I would also like to congratulate our Table Tennis team for an excellent third place in the County Championships.
Following lots of anticipation, I am delighted to announce that we will be staging ‘Beauty and the Beast’ as our annual musical. Details of auditions are included in the newsletter. I look forward to seeing the auditions!
On Thursday 9th November at 6pm we will have our Post 16 Evening. This was an excellent event last year and provided a great opportunity to meet our local Post 16 providers in one place. Those schools and colleges will be here again this year, as well as details about Apprenticeships and Universities. As local Post 16 providers advertise their own evenings and open days, we will include them in our newsletter.
Have a great weekend.
DT RequestIf you have any empty jars with plastic lids, empty yogurt pots or washing up bottles, they would be appreciated by the DT department. Please hand in to Main Reception.

BOOK OF THE WEEK

word OF THE WEEK
Halloween is nearly upon us and our third instalment in our Halloween book build up is another classic, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.
When you hear the word ‘Frankenstein’ many of you will have an image in your mind of a scary monster, a perfect character to dress up as at Halloween.
But the real Frankenstein is a scientist named Victor Frankenstein, and the monster you think of is the creature he creates and brings to life.
Frankenstein soon realises he has made a terrible mistake and he must stop the monster’s murderous course. However, is the monster as evil as he seems? This novel really gets to grips with what it means to be human.
Challenge yourself to really discover the complexities behind the monster we’ve all heard of. You may be shocked and surprised! We also have re-telling’s of the classic tale and comic versions in The Learning Hub, so you can access this story in many ways.
“Try and leave this world a little better than you found it, and when your turn comes to die, you can die
happy in feeling that at any rate, you have not wasted your time but have done your best”.

Apprentice Engineer Show Year 11 students have been paired with mentors throughout the school. The first of these one-to-one discussions highlighted a group of students keen to persuade a career within Engineering.
These students were ideally matched to the opportunity to attend Apprentice Engineer Show 2017 at the iconic Derby Roundhouse, in the centre of the UK’s engineering heritage. The show brought together some of the greatest businesses in the engineering field such as Siemens, RAF, Royal Navy, Rolls Royce and many more. There were guest speakers and seminars on how to get ahead in the world of Engineering, including inspiring careers, CV and interview techniques. Students could explore, discuss and question businesses on apprenticeships and potential careers within their organisations.
“The Engineering trip has allowed me to see what apprenticeships are available, by talking to the companies I got clear guidance as to what qualifications I need to apply. I spoke to a number of companies including HS2, Siemens and Jaguar, who all gave me valuable information on the different types of routes in, from GCSE level to Degree.” George Bettles
“Having the opportunity of going to the Engineering Show gave me insight as to what my future could potentially have to offer. I interacted with many professionals from different organisations and gained loads of useful information. In particular I discussed routes into the Royal Air Force with Sergeant John Gill, who helped me understand how and where to apply and what to expect from the recruitment process.” Davina Kaur
“I enjoyed the opportunity, the venue was great. There were so many different types of engineering careers being promoted, such as Army, Land Rover Jaguar, HS2, Water & Waste. Listening to the talk from Leigh Timmis who cycled around the world overcoming many challenges was very inspiring.” Jamie Lydall

Calling all Year 7 houses! If you want to represent your house year 7, join in our Halloween treasure hunt on 31st October at lunchtime.
You will need to collect a clue sheet from E3 at break-time – making sure that you tell the House Teams what house you are in.
Around the school there will be the letters of a famous Halloween linked phrase – you collect the letters and work out the anagram and then take back your sheet to your House Team in E3.
Each entrant will gain points for their respective houses and then there will be a raffle of all the winning entries to decide which group/individual wins the top voucher prize!
You may wear costumes during the Treasure Hunt – even better if they are in your
house colours!
Sports Highlights
This half term will host a number of new extra-curricular activities with a continued aim of accommodating a variety of different sports. This timetable can be seen on the following page.
We are proud to announce after nominating two female students for the Junior Sports Woman Leicestershire Award, both have been shortlisted to attend the awards evening in November. Maisie Elliott was nominated after competing for Great Britain in swimming and Ellys Pollon was nominated after successfully winning a series of tennis matches across the country leading her to play at Wimbledon. We wish both students the very best of luck.
This week we took our two table tennis teams representing Year 8 and Year 10 to the county table tennis championships. After 6 weeks of training during a Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtime both teams came third in their respective age groups.
The teams were led by Toby Cotton who himself won 18 out of 18 games!
Finally, Year 7 and Year 8 rugby boys took on Leicester Grammar away for the second time this season with both teams competing well.
Year 7 lost 6 tries to 2 however the score line did not reflect their performance overall. Year 8 were 6 tries to 2 down at half-time and came back to draw 7-7 displaying huge resilience in the face of adversity.
