Target AudiencePhysicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, radiation oncologists, and respiratory therapists representing the specialties of family medicine, gastroenterology, internal medicine, oncology, radiation oncology, respiratory therapy, and surgery.
Conference DescriptionThoracic and gastrointestinal cancers continue to represent a significant portion of all cancer deaths in the United States. This conference will focus on the pathology and clinical management of patients diagnosed with thoracic and GI cancers, as well as strategies for implementing treatment options.
Learning ObjectivesAfter participating in this educational activity, the participant will be better able to:• Review the advances in endoscopic, surgical, and management of Barrett’s metaplasia
and esophageal cancer.• Recognize the importance of proper identification of pancreatic neuroendocrine
tumors and their treatment algorithm.• Describe the advances in colon cancer detection as well as the importance of genetics
in this malignancy. • Discuss the pros and cons related to lung cancer screening.• Summarize the current approaches to staging lung cancer.• Describe the various surgical options available for treating both early and advanced
stage lung cancer, including minimally invasive techniques.• Assess where radiofrequency ablation fits into the treatment strategies for managing
thoracic malignancies.• Discuss the surgical options available for treating CNS involvement in patients with
advanced thoracic malignancies.• Summarize the efficacy of chemotherapy in patients with lung cancer.

The registration fee includes the educational conference, handout materials, continental breakfasts, lunches, and refreshment breaks. Full payment must accompany all registrations. Checks should be made payable to the UNMC Center for Continuing Education. Walk-in registrations will be accepted based on space availability. Conference materials/food cannot be guaranteed for walk-in registrants.

Cancellation PolicyA full refund may be obtained if a written request is received by Monday, October 20, 2008. A $25 processing fee will be retained for cancellations after that date. No refunds will be issued once the conference begins.
