Introduction
This section introduces the SPECTRUM Device Management documentation for Lucent Definity Proxy Agent.
This introduction contains the following topics:
• Purpose and Scope
• Required Reading
• Supported Devices (Page 5)
• The SPECTRUM Model (Page 5)
Purpose and ScopeUse this documentation as a guide for managing Lucent Definity Proxy Agent with the SPECTRUM management module SM-LUC1001. This document describes the icons, menus, and views that enable you to remotely monitor, configure, and troubleshoot Lucent Definity Proxy Agent through software models in your SPECTRUM database.
Information specific to the SM-LUC1001 is what is primarily included in this document. For general information about device management using SPECTRUM and for explanations of basic SPECTRUM functionality and navigation
techniques, refer to the topics listed under Required Reading.
Required ReadingTo use this documentation effectively, you must be familiar with the information covered by the other SPECTRUM online documents listed below.
• Getting Started with SPECTRUM for Operators
• Getting Started with SPECTRUM for Administrators
• How To Manage Your Network with SPECTRUM
• SPECTRUM Views
• Software Release Notes
• SPECTRUM Menus
• SPECTRUM Icons

Supported DevicesThe SPECTRUM management module SM-LUC1001 currently allows you to model one type of Lucent Definity. The Lucent Definity Proxy Agent is a protocol conversion resource. The Proxy Agent software resides on a stand-alone personal computer and operates on the UnixWare Operation System.
The main function is to convert management data from managed nodes and transmit the data to the management programs that reside of the Network Management System.
The Proxy Agent supports both static and dynamic connections to managed nodes. You can assign up to 150 dynamic connections on the managed nodes screen. The Proxy Agent can support up to 30 connections which can be any combination of static and dynamic connections.
The SPECTRUM ModelThe model type for the Lucent Definity device is LucentProxy.
Modeling results in the creation of Device icons that represent the devices and Application icons that represent their supported applications.
The Device icons contain double-click zones and provide access to Icon Subviews menus that let you perform device management activities such as those listed in Tasks on Page 7.
As Figure 1 shows, the appearance of the Device icons varies slightly depending on the kind of view it appears in.

Client View
This section describes the Client view and subviews available for models of the Lucent Definity Proxy Agent in SPECTRUM.
Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for the LucentProxy Device icon, select Client.
This view (Figure 2) is a representation of the Private Branch Exchange (PBX) that the proxy has modeled. Each PBX can be classed into one of three categories:
• USA, with an enumerated state• A custom category, where the name is
supplied when the switch is added• A generic category.
Each icon in the lower panel (for a close-up, see Figure 3) represents a switch.

Device Topology View
This section provides brief descriptions of the Interface Device Topology view available for models of Lucent Definity Proxy Agent in SPECTRUM.
Access: From the Icon Subviews menu for the Device icon, select Device Topology.
The Device Topology view (Figure 4) shows the connections between a modeled device and other network entities. The lower panel of the view uses Interface icons to represent the device’s serial, network, and I/O ports. If a device is connected to a particular interface, a Device icon appears on the vertical bar above the Interface icon along with an icon representing the network group that contains the device.
Refer to the SPECTRUM Views documentation for details on Device Topology view.

Device-Specific MIBsSPECTRUM imports the following device-level proprietary MIBs into its database:
• G3-LUCENT-MIB.mib
These MIBs can be used in conjunction with SPECTRUM’s optional customization products (referred to as the Level I Tool Kits) to create application models and views that display the condition of selected MIB objects.
A single device specific application exists for Lucent Definity Switch, g3Chassis.
G3Chassis Application ViewThis major application (model type g3Chassis) provides one application-specific subview, as follows.
Proxy ConfigurationAccess: From the Icon Subviews for the g3Chassis icon, select Configuration.
This view contains the following information:
Proxy AgentA display string containing the release of the Proxy Agent.
Agent DomainA display string containing the Domain Name of the Proxy Agent.

Performance Views
This section provides brief descriptions of the Performance views available for models of Lucent Definity Proxy Agent in SPECTRUM.
Performance views display performance statistics in terms of a set of transmission attributes, e.g., cell rates, frame rates, % error, etc. A typical view is shown in Figure 7. The instantaneous condition of each transmission attribute is recorded in a graph. The statistical information for each attribute is presented in the adjacent table.
Generally, you determine performance at the device level through Performance views accessed from the Device and Application icons. You determine performance at the port/interface level through Performance views accessed from Interface icons.
For more information on Performance views, refer to the SPECTRUM Views documentation.

Manual Modeling
This section provides a brief description of how to manually model the Lucent Definity in SPECTRUM.
There are two ways to manually model the Lucent Definity in SPECTRUM:
• By Model Type. When you model by model type, the Creation view appears. From here, you can choose to turn off the Map on Topology option. The default is Yes, indicating that you want the location icons and switches displayed.
• By IP. When modeling by IP, the Map on Topology option is always Yes.
Map on TopologyFigure 10 shows a representation of mapping the switches onto the topology view. If the Map on Topology option were No, only the Lucent Proxy icon would show up in the Topology view.
