Current Situation with Wi-FI

Only Wireless communication in Office Area’s (non ATEX)

ATEX Zone

Page 8: LTE to replace WI-FI in Oil & Gas - Computerworld...Interference from others No, Private frequency licence (>2026) Yes, incoming Ships with Wi-Fi in 2.4GHz, Radar switches off Wi-Fi

Only connectivity in the Office buildings

No ability to work with networked applications on premises

WI-FI should have to be expanded through the whole terrain

Capacity for inter networking is growing

9

Possible WI-FI expansion

• Many Access Points

• Most of then ATEX

• Difficult to interconnect

• High Maintenance cost

For real time process support, the next generation networks need to have:

• Low-latency

• Ultra-reliable mobile networks to support critical communications.

• The current 4G network has:

• One size fits all topology

• Ability to provide different service levels

• All mobile users are treated the same

• Next generation networks introduced in phases

• Dedicated separate network build to support different network priorities

• No interference with commercial network users on the commercial mobile

network.

Number of masts to cover full area 3-4 Masts 100 AP's 60-65 Masts

Maximum reach per transmitter >3km <200m Now no redundancy in radio coverage

Number of equipment to manage 2 Core, 3-4 Base stations, 600 CPE 100AP, 5 concentrators for roaming, 600 CPE

Maximum Mast length allowed 30m 16m if unlicenced(askAT for advise)

Maximum transmit power allowed per radio 10Watt 100mW for 2.4GHz. DFS needed for outdoor 5GHZ devices

WIFI Access for use of non LTE phones and tablets YES, Every CPE contains WIFI AP Yes

Private Network Yes No, Wi-Fi is unlicensed band

Communication for other equipment (VX9) Yes through eM100 PCIe module Yes, via PCIe WIFI module

Interference from others No, Private frequency licence (>2026)

Yes, incoming Ships with Wi-Fi in 2.4GHz, Radar switches off Wi-

Fi in 5GHz band (DFS), operated drones, Video cams etc all work

on the public WIFI frequency.

Security Yes, Simcard or SoftSIM, maximum safety Yes, WPA2. but hackable.

Easy programmable from the Core Yes Yes, Layer 2 (Devices can be configured separately with a tool)

Max Handovertime from stations <30ms ?

Amount of handovers per minute small (only few accesspoint) very large (many accesspoints)

Maximal througput per CPE 50Mbps 10Mbps (depending on distance to AP)

Manageable with HP Openview SNMP Yes via MIPS Yes via MIPS

Maintenance Few sites to maintain 100 sites to be managed.

Speed moving objects (AGV’s Boats, Drones Can handle upto 100 km/h ( with 5G even faster) Can not reach >30km/h

Redundancy network Operator frequencies 3 channels on 2.4GHz, auto switch over to 5GHz

Reliability High many disturbances

Availability High High - Medium

Lifetime Sysytem Prepared for future Wifi will be replaced in time

Roadmap

New functionality can be easily added (eg Voice over LTE, Video,

broadband data)

If throughput higher, less channels can be used. 8.2.11n vs

802.11g

CPE Stability Doppler effect compensation specialy designed for moving objects No compensation

Handover and Security

• On Premises Calls and Data through company network

• Handover within Company network

• Secured applications allowed to work

• Off Premises Calls and Data through

operator network

• Handover within Operator network

• Secured applications Not Allowed to Work

On and off premises applications have to be decided by the Oil Companys. Some adaption may have

to be made through joint innovation program.

After the basic network topology :

• The mechanism to define the traffic routing will be defined.

• The current 4G radio network gets higher QoS assigned to the Client Sim cards .

• This will provide the routing of the connectivity. The routing from the devices to the dedicated

company Core (UGW) will be done by connecting only the Client assign SIM cards to an APN.

All traffic in this APN can be controlled and in this way routed to the on premises UGW that

will allow the local breakout.

• Foundation of the network must be found in the core part of the solution

• RAN will be seen as a NaaS.

• The RAN part is decoupled and on every location the best possible RAN solution

can be selected to optimal serve the business.

• Local Breakout is defined to serve low latency

• All traffic generated on the premises will not be routed through the central core of

the operator but will stay local High Security

• A virtual dedicated RAN network will be included that is created within the

existing 4G (5G) network of the operator

• The traffic generated by the client devices will be routed to the on premises

Indoor Coverage through LampSite

[Shenzhen, China, March 6, 2018] Huawei has released its next generation

small cell product, the 5G LampSite, which is the first multi-band indoor 5G

Small Cell product to support both 5G NR and 4G LTE. The 5G LampSite can

utilize CAT6A Ethernet or optical fiber cables laid out during 4G LampSite

deployments to realize transitioning to 5G without complex engineering

implementation or changing radio network planning.
