Through the Healthy Athletes program, we are also improving the way health systems and medical practitioners interact with, understand, relate to and serve people with intellectual disabilities. By giving medical practitioner volunteers the opportunity to screen and interact with our athletes, they come to better understand the challenges individuals with intellectual disabilities often face in obtaining comprehensive medical care and they become better equipped to provide more compassionate and personalized care. This ultimately will help to ensure that individuals with intellectual disabilities receive more optimal healthcare and thrive as athletes.

TESTIMONIALSIt's a game changer. You start out giving your time and quickly realize that it is you that is receiving acceptance, unconditional love and a lifetime of friendship. - Janis Cantiello D'Andrea
The place where volunteers get more love than the athletes - the best experience one can have in sports and human services - feel the love. - Marty Dunleavy
Special Olympics has a way of bringing together the nicest, most talented and giving people I ever could hope to meet. I now call those people friends and family. As much as I joined Special Olympics to help others and give back, I can't even begin to say all that Special Olympics has given me and so many others. To me Special Olympics is my serenity, it is my family. - Jarrod Viens
