Installing LP360 on Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 or higher
Symptom:
The following warning message appears while attempting to install LP360:
Figure 45 – Lacking permissions to write to the registry
Probable Resolution:
Due to the increased security measurements put into place by Microsoft with the release of these
operating systems installing certain software requires having more user control and permissions.
The biggest problem occurs when a user, who is part of the Administrator group on the system itself;
find themselves without enough permission to install software. There are several ways to work around
this situation.
Here are two different options for installing LP360 on one of the above operating systems:
Option 1:
This option will install the program from an elevated command prompt that has Administrative
permissions.
1. From the Start Menu All Programs Accessories, right-click on Command Prompt and select
Run as Administrator.
Figure 46 - Run an elevated command prompt
2. Locate the MSI installation file and drag this file into the Command Prompt.

3. Click Enter to install the program.
4. Once installed return to Installing and registering LP360.
Option 2:
This option requires activating and accessing the built-in Administrator account. You will need to be part
of the Administrator group in order to do the following. Please check with your IT department before
using this option.
1. Open Computer Management (from the Start Menu Administrative Tools, select Computer
Management, or right-click on Computer and select Manage).

TCP Channel Protocol Violation
Symptom:
The following warning message appears when attempting to complete activation on a client machine:
Figure 56 - TCP Channel Protocol Violation
Probable Resolution:
The error concerning TCP Channel Protocol violation is likely occurring due to either: incompatible LP360
versions, inaccessible TCP Ports, or a problem relating to Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5.1 WCF and the
Windows Server 2008 operating system. Below are three options to try and correct the error.
Option 1: Incompatible LP360 Versions
1. Determine the version of LP360 installed on the server machine.
2. Determine the version of LP360 installed on the client machine.
3. If it is determined the two machines are running different versions:
a. If the client machine is on a newer version of LP360 versus the server machine, upgrade
the server machine to the same version as the client.
b. If the server machine is on a newer version of LP360 versus the client machine, upgrade
the client machine to the same version as the server.
Option 2: Windows Server 2008, or later, Operating System
1. Does the LP360 License Server reside on a machine running Windows Server 2008?
a. If so, then the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 WCF needs to be activated. See the following
article published by Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2027770
Option 3: TCP Port Conflict
1. Determine the TCP Port for the LP360 License Server that was specified during the installation of
the authorization file
2. Using a command prompt determine the TCP Ports that are currently in use.
Key-in: netstat -a -n -p TCP
3. Verify that the same TCP Port has been specified for the License checkout on the client machine.
4. If necessary, change the TCP Port for the LP360 License Server.

Changing the TCP Port for the LP360 License Server
Symptom:
If the TCP Port defined for the LP360 License Server is currently in use by another program then it will be
necessary to select another port for use by LP360.
Probable Resolution:
Change the specified TCP Port number for the LP360 License Server Service:
1. On the machine hosting the LP360 License Server open the LP360 License Administrator
Program.
2. Select the Activate tab.
3. Check the box for “I have an authorization file and I would like to complete the activation”
4. Browse for the *.AUT file

Cannot Connect the Client Machine to the License Server
Symptom:
Receiving one of the following “Unable to create license server object”, or “Test connection to the
license server failed” error messages when attempting to connect a client machine to the license server:
Figure 71 - Registration Error
Figure 72 - Test Connection Failed
Probable Resolution:
There are three options for fixing these error messages. They are presented here in the order of what should be tried first. Option 1: More than likely these error messages are occurring due to the fact the LP360 License Server Service is not started on the Server Machine. This option walks through checking the status of the service on the LP360 License Server machine.
1. Open Computer Management on the License Server Machine (from the Start Menu
Administrative Tools, select Computer Management or right-click on Computer and select
Manage).

b. If started already, restart the service.
Figure 78 - Restart the Service
Option 2: The second option is to use the IP address instead of the computer name for the License Server. 1. From the Start Menu All Programs QCoherent LP360, select the LP360 License
Administrator.
Figure 79 - LP360 License Administrator Program
2. On the License tab, select the option “Use License Server”. Type in the IP address of the machine

P:+1-256-461-8289 F:+1-256-461-8249 www.LP360.com Page 41 of 49
Option 3: The other likely reason for the error messages is that there is a firewall in place that is stopping the connection between the client machine and the server machine. The steps below describe how to allow the needed programs and ports through for Windows Firewall only. If there is a separate firewall in place, local IT departments will need to be involved to add the following programs and ports through:
LicServer.exe, LicServerProxy.exe and TCP Port assigned to the LP360 License Server during installation of the authorization file (versions 2011.1 or newer);
LicServer.exe, LicServerProxy.exe and TCP Port #1234 (versions 2.0 or previous). 1. From the Start Menu Control Panel System and Security, select Windows Firewall.
