• M2M communication is important to Sony as a consumer electronics

manufacturer

– We expect that all of our consumer electronic products could potentially

incorporate some sort of M2M communication technology in the near future

Varying Requirements for M2M CE Communication

• Different M2M CE applications have different requirements

• For wide deployment and success, M2M CE communication requires one single

communications technology that can satisfy a wide range of requirements

– Not desirable to have multiple communications technologies that only satisfy

parts of the requirements, can not pile on extensive number of wireless techs

• Key Requirements for M2M CE Communication; Ubiquitous Connectivity, Cost, Ease

of Use, Longevity, Security

• Wireless PAN/LAN technologies for M2M can cause;

– Coverage Holes : no control over which PAN/LAN deployed at consumer’s location

future, providing longevity similar to CE devices

• Current LTE will satisfy the requirements of high-end CE devices (e.g. LCD TVs) but

– e.g. need to connect to TV in a basement
