Incontrast,Entouragestoresallyouremailinasingledatabase.Let’ssayforexamplethisdatabaseis500MBinsize.Onday2youget10newmessagesthatareabout100Kinsize.Becausethisemailisallstoredinasingledatabase,thedatabasemodi-icationdatehaschangedbecausetherearenewmessagesinit.TimeMachinewillnowbackuptheENTIRE500MBagain,unnecessarilytakingupexcessivespaceonyourbackupdrive.Evenworse,ifyouopenEntourageonday3andtherearenonewmessages,whenyouquittheprogramEntouragestillchangesthemodi-icationdateofthedatabase‐againforcingTimeMachinetobackuptheentiredatabase.Microsoftisawareofthis“-law”butisunableto-ixitasitisbuiltintothedesignofthesoftware.ThisbecomesarealproblemwithTimeMachinebecauseTimeMachineisbynaturesettobackupeveryhour.Youcould-illupyourbackupharddriveinweeksinsteadofmonths!

TIP OF THE DAY!

Do not assume that Time Machine is working!

To check, go under the Time Machine Icon in the Menu Bar.

The first line will tell you the time and date of the last backup.

If you see this icon it means something is wrong with your backup.

QUESTION: Where is my Home Folder? (Anonymous in Westlake Village)

ANSWER: Double click on your Hard Drive - called Macintosh HD (default name)/iMac HD/Macbook HD etc. It is located in the top right hand corner of your desktop.

On the left of the window that opens up, under PLACES, your Home Folder should be named with your name (or whatever you named it during initial setup - not modifiable), and has a picture of a house next to it.

QUESTION: What’s the easiest way to get to my Applications Folder?

• • •ANSWER: Click the Finder Icon in the dock (the icon furthest to the left if your dock is at the bottom).

Click on the GO menu at the top of the screen.

Choose Applications.

QUESTION: How do I stop programs from starting up automatically when I log in or turn my computer on?

• • •

METHOD ONE

Apple → System Preferences → Accounts → Login Items.

Select whichever programs you don’t want to come on at startup and click on the minus sign at the bottom of that window or hit the delete key on your keyboard.

METHOD TWO

Click & hold on the program in question in the dock.

Uncheck ‘Open at Login’.

SAM SAYS: I get asked this question very often. My suspicion is that people are accidentally clicking & holding on dock items and selecting ‘Open at Login’ by mistake.

Your HOME FOLDER is the ‘house’ that

contains all of your personal data. Double

click on it to bring up all the different user

folders on your hard drive: e.g. Music,

Movies, Documents etc. NOTE: If there

are multiple users on one computer there

will be multiple home folders that reside in

the main users folder.

DRAG APPLICATIONS TO THE DOCKfrom the Applications Folder to keep them there for quick launching.

Or... if the program is already running, the icon should show up on the right side of the dock.

Click and hold on the icon in the dock and select ‘keep in dock’.

NOTE: The alternative method is to double click on your Hard Drive (see above) and double click the Applications Folder.

HOW TO FORCE QUIT AN APP THAT IS LOCKED UPWith the 2.x OS you just had to hold down the home button on the phone for several seconds to force it to force quit.

To force quit using 3.0 software, hold down the on/off button on the top right of the phone until you see the display ‘slide to turn off phone’.... only then do you hold down the home button.
