love field short film
TRANSCRIPT
LOVE FIELD
THE FILM IS ABOUT A WOMAN WHO GIVES BIRTH WITH THE HELP OF A MAN. I
CHOSE THIS FILM BECAUSE OF HOW IT PORTRAYS THE STORY AS IT DOESN'T FOLLOW THE STEREOTYPICAL WAY OF A WOMAN GIVING BIRTH. THE FILM IS
PRESENTED THROUGH A MOVING IMAGE WITH MINIMAL DIALOGUE DUE
TO IT BEING A SILENT FILM. HOWEVER UNLIKE THE TYPICAL SILENT FILM THE STORY ISN'T NARRATED THROUGH MUSIC BUT ITS STILL PORTRAYED CLEARLY.
The film doesn't begin with a blank screen with the title on it but with an establishing shot of a corn field. The tile fades and the camera pans through the field.
The camera then pans to a sign with a black crow on it which immediately gives the impression of a horror film as black crows are used
as a symbol of death. Meanwhile there is a Diagetic sound of the sign squeaking which adds to
the tension that the dull lighting and props such as black crow had already created.
The camera then pans to a beeping phone probably lost
signal which show the desperation that the character is
in. There is a diagetic sound of a woman screaming
in pain and a close up of a cloth covered in blood which adds to the dark theme being portrayed in the film.
There is a point of view shot of a man looking at the black crow which gives the
impression of him being the villain and
possibly a murder. This is then followed by a series of panning shots of the cornfield which shows that the setting of the film is at a deserted and isolated place.
The close up of human legs covered in blood and props such as knife and cloth makes the audience expect the worse.
However the end contradicts the conventions of a horror film as the lighting changes
creating a happy atmosphere in comparison to the beginning of the film where the
lighting is dim. This demonstrations how babies brings warmth into adults lives. The
baby is shown as a sign of happiness as it’s the first time that a dialogue is used which
shows how babies bring people together.
