Chairman’s report – Sue Jones

We have just completed the 38th year of the Loughborough Town Netball League. A great season yet again with very few hitches – we know that because our committee meetings haven’t been too long!! Good to see so many clubs improving over the season.

Great Cup and Plate finals day, it was just a shame that there were not more spectators. Both matches were exciting and were umpired brilliantly by Teresa Hames, Tamsen Mather, Kathy Stripp and Kate Mann. Well done to all players and umpires. Let’s hope we see a few more supporters next year.

As I said earlier, we are coming into the 39th season of the LTNL so, at the end of season 2017-2018 we will have reached our 40th year. We think that we should do something to celebrate this so, if anyone has any ideas do please let us know. It would be a shame to let such a milestone pass by without any recognition.

We’ve had a couple of problems this season with the league tables. I have been contacted by clubs to say that the results aren’t correct. I put these down as they show on the proforma and sometimes they have been entered incorrectly. Therefore it’s essential that you check the results and let me know of any mistakes. Whilst on this subject, I would ask that the teams on duty check the proformas as the match goes on as this is part of the duty. Also, could you please make sure that if you are on duty you arrive in good time to set up ie put the names on the board, make sure you know how to use the score board remote etc. It’s only 2 or 3 times during a season so please help to make the day run smoothly.

We have another member join our committee this year, Sian from Papura who is joining us as a social media person. As I don’t quite know what that means I am going to ask her to give you a quick insight into her role when I have finished my report.

It only remains for me to thank your committee for all their hard work throughout the season. As I say each year, the only reason that the LTNL runs so smoothly is the dedication of these ladies. I hope you will now give them a generous round of applause. Thank you.

Treasurer’s report – Bill WilsonPlease see appendix 1 for the balance sheet.

Firstly, I would like to say a big thank you to all the treasurers for generally paying promptly and a special thanks to the internet bankers who have been known to pay by bank transfer the same day the invoice has been emailed to them.

I shall keep this short as we have had a pretty routine year financially. This was the first year in a while that we have not made large payments for capital items, so instead of the breakeven and loss positions of recent years, we have made a profit of just over £1,000 this year.

Looking at the balance sheet, as is usual, the majority of the recurring income and expenditure for the year is on income from match fees and corresponding expenditure on court hire. We again made the cup and plate finals free to players and spectators for the second year running and the £103 we made on the raffle was donated to Breast Cancer Research.

The only categories on the balance sheet that do not directly describe what they contain are administration (the bulk of this, £290, is website fees) and the £50 in miscellaneous, is for room hire for the beginning of season meeting.

Registration Secretary’s report – Suzanne FarleyOver the last few years the task of the registration secretary has changed with the move to England registrations having to be completed ‘on-line’ before registering with LTNL. This in turn has made the role for the LTNL Registration secretary a lot easier.

However, there is one area that needs smoothing out and this for additional players being registered during the season.

Additional instructions have been sent out in previous minutes, and I have updated the guidelines, but I would just like to run through this:

A registration form MUST be completed with all player details (no form – no registration!) Forms are downloadable from the website, will also be in the match folder on the desk Form should be forwarded to Suzanne via email, post or placed in the match envelope Money should be paid with the form, if sent via email then placed in the clubs next match envelope If payment is not paid when the new player plays – the player is NOT REGISTERED and

appropriate points deduction/fines will be imposed. Registration fee: £1 (£0.50 for junior) or £1.50 for re-registration

Thank you for your support throughout the year, it is always appreciated.

Umpire Secretary’s report – Jane HammersleyAs always - thanks to everyone that has umpired this year.

Apologies for my absence at this meeting, however it is somewhat reflective of my season last year and as such I haven’t attended many league matches. Most of my reflections therefore are based on information from others and general feelings.

Our New Umpire support team – were trained early last season by Jo and Kate. Great feedback from all who attended with new skills to help our learner umpires.

Mentor Slots – I will address one of the club suggestions in my report – a plea for more mentor slots during league matches. We will explore how this can be achieved for next season as I agree that opportunities for learner umpires to practice are limited.

New Umpires – Again we have struggled this season with far fewer umpires gaining their C awards, mostly due to the extended course requirements. We are waiting for feedback from England Netball on the requirements for next year.

Last Minute.com - please don’t use Facebook, text or email as a way to contact umpires at the last minute. Use the umpire contacts list to phone around, this method has a much higher chance of success.

New Rules – Next season England netball are introducing new rules. In order to learn how this will affect us, Jo Stephenson is running a rules forum on 28th June at the Link Hotel (Ashby Road) Loughborough 7.30 – 9.30pm. This is designed for all umpires, coaches and players – in fact everyone is welcome to attend. We will also run a pre-season tournament at the beginning of next season to try the new rules in anger.

The Camillia Mather ‘Umpire of the year Trophy’ will be awarded later to an umpire who never fails to impress with her skills and enthusiasm for the game. She supports many clubs who struggle to find an official and is always on hand with support and encouraging word– to be announced later…

Fixtures Secretary’s report – Elaine HensonPlease see appendix 2 for final league positions. Yet again, another fairly smooth season. We did have a few issues with the Leisure Centre bookings at the beginning of the season. This meant changing match times for a few weeks and also playing on a Sunday one week instead of Saturday. Many thanks to all the teams who accepted these changes and played accordingly.

We also had to change the date of the Cup/Plate final due to a last minute clash with the Regional play-offs – but we managed it without too much stress!

The format change of the fixtures having 4 matches on each court from 1 – 6 pm still seems to be working well. It is much easier for the umpiring rota and duty teams only have to cover 2 matches!

It doesn’t leave us with any spare fixtures but this didn’t seem too much of a problem for the teams. A few matches were cancelled but these were mostly last minute.

Therefore overall a successful season - we played 256 league matches plus 46 Cup/Plate matches – a grand total of 302 matches!

Next season33 out of the 34 teams have re-entered for next season, Sutton Bonington have withdrawn their 2nd team. However Coalville Ravens have requested to enter a second team. In addition, we have had an enquiry from a new team wishing to enter the League.

Gracedieu Griffins – a new team from NWL (awaiting confirmation)

The final Division split for 2016-17 will be announced as soon as we have confirmed the number of teams after the next committee meeting

We have booked the Leisure Centre next season from Saturday 10 September 2016 to Saturday 13 May 2017. Please note the LTNL will be arranging a pre-season tournament prior to the start of the new season in order to introduce the rules. Date and venue TBC.

As usual we will do our best to meet all of your requests for match times or dates etc!

Finally - I am pleased to announce that Tracey from Sence Valley has offered to help with the fixtures for next season. Hopefully with the intention of eventually taking over?! Unless anyone else has a burning ambition to do it?

Suggestions and ideasOne suggestion was made about increasing the number of umpire mentoring slots. This was addressed above in the Umpire Secretary’s report.

Election of officersThe Committee as a whole was voted to stand for next year, with additional members Sian Selby, Papura as Social Media Rep (who will manage the league’s Facebook page) and Carla Garey, Ashby as Ordinary Member.Proposed: Caroline Orton, Harriers; seconded: Helen Figgitt, Papura.

Emma Reed stood down as Minute Secretary and became an Ordinary Member, and Deb Foldys became Minute Secretary.

THE AGM WAS FOLLOWED BY THE PRESENTATION OF THE LEAGUE TROPHIES FOR 2015/16 SEASON. Trophies were presented by Kathy Stripp, LCNA Chair.

See Appendix 3 for the list of trophy winners.
