PREFACEHave you ever wondered if there were completestock stats for the many starships that only appearmodified or incomplete in the West End Gamessourcebooks and supplements? Although supple-ments have been released that focus on stock ver-sions of starships (WEG 40143, Pirates & Privat-eers; WEG 40029, The Far Orbit Project; WEG40150, Stock Ships; WEG 41005, AdventureJournal #5) many still only exist in modifid and/orincomplete form. While most of these starships arelight freighters, there are also several starfightersand some capital ships. This article proposes unof-ficial stock statistics for those missing starships.They can be sorted into three different categories:

● Modified starship statistics: These are usu-ally privately owned starships that havebeen more or less extensively modified bytheir owners.

● Incomplete starship statistics: These star-ships only are published with a short stat-istics block with the minimum of neededgame values.

● Modified and incomplete statistics: A com-bination of the first two categories. Theirstock statistics are the most difficult to re-construct.

Important Note

Creating stock statistics out of modified and/or in-complete statistics is not based on exact mathemat-ical exact calculations. The process rather requiresassumptions, estimations and personal interpretra-tions based on experience with starship statistics.

Undoing Modifications

The first step in the process of undoing modifica-tions on a starship is to figure out which modifica-tions were done in the first place. Often the modi-fied starships come with a description that has de-

tailed information on the modifications made bythe ship's owner. Furthermore, the adventure con-text can help to reveal important facts about theship's history. If there are no details in the descrip-tion or if there is no description of the ship at all,the adventure context reminas the only source forfiguring out at least some details about the modi-fied ship. But sometimes even the adventure con-text does not contain any information about the re-lated starship. In this case experience is all that canhelp to spot possible modifications in the statisticsthat break out too much from typical values. Todistinguish between typical and possibly modifiedvalues also requires much experience in starshipstatistics.

After having determined those parts of the stat-istics to be changed, the second step of the un-modifying process is to reduce these game valuesto their presumed stock base values. The range of astock value is wide, however. It depends on thetype, size and age of the starship. This means thata military transport will most probably have higherbase values for hull and shields than a civiliantransport, a large bulk transport is likely to havehave more cargo space but less maneuverabilitythan a light freighter, and older transport classespresumably have lower values for hyperdrive andbackup than more modern designs. Thus it is im-portant to gather as many information about the re-lated starship as possible. Stock values then can besuggested by comparing its modified statistics withas many stock statistics of similar starships classesas there are available. There are no exact calcula-tions for reconstructing the correct stcok base val-ues, but experience tells that most modificationsare within the range of two units (dice or speedunits).

There are generally two methods to modify astarship (WEG 40095: Galaxy Guide 6: TrampFreighters, pages 30-43). The first is to modify analready installed system while the second methodis to use a replacement system which is thecheaper and safer of the two options (WEG 40095:Galaxy Guide 6: Tramp Freighters, page 32). Forthis reason all stock statistic reconstructions were

done on the basis of replacement systems. In-stalling a replacement system, however, goes inmost cases together with the change of cargo capa-city. For example fast hyperdrives require morespace than slow hyperdrives, heavy shield generat-ors require more space than light shield generators,and the installation of additional weapons also re-quires space. So, after unmodification of the de-sired systems the third and final step in the recon-struction process of a starship's stock statistics isthe adjustment of its cargo capacity. Unlike the ac-tual unmodification, this adjustment does in factfollow mathematical approximations. A complila-tion of replacement systems and their requiredspace can be found in Galaxy Guide 6: TrampFreighters (WEG 40095, pages 38-43). A moreand extensive list on replacement systems can befound in D6 Space: Ships (WEG 51017, pages 27-47).

Expanding incomplete statistics

Incomplete game statistics for starships are oftenfound within adventure scripts. Although incom-plete, there is enough information for the game-master and the players to use the related starshipfor standard space encounters. These are usuallythe ship's scale, maneuverability, space and atmo-sphere speed, hull and shield strength, andweapons while the rest of the game values remainsunknown. To obtain complete statistics for such astarship the empty gaming values have to be filledin. In most cases standard values can be used. Tofind out adeauqte standard values for the relatedstarship, the values of other starships of the sameclass can be compared. This allows for the roughestimation of standard values for a starship of itsclass. As mostly being part of an adventure, thestory often reveals important details like the ship'smission profile. This helps to find out appropriatevalues for the missing game statistics. For ex-ample, a patrol ship intercepting the player charac-ters' starship might come with a small boardingparty of troops and might lack hyperdrive. A scoutship will have a very powerful sensor suite and a

very fast hyperdrive. A space yacht will also have afast hyperdrive and additional passenger capacity.Other values like the starship's length or the num-ber of cremen are more difficult to valuate. If theadventure script contains an image or deckplan ofthe ship, its length can be estimated which alsogive an indication for the crew size. As for the un-modification process it is helpful to use all giveninformation.

Undoing Modifications and Expanding Incomplete Statistics

These are considered to be the most difficult stockstatistics to reconstruct. To obtain estimated stockstatistics for such starships the approaches for bothunmodifying and expanding statistics have to betaken into account.

Starships List

The game statistics of the following starships wereunmodified and/or completed using the approachesdescribed above. These are no official stock statist-ics, but suggested values of how a stock version ofthe related starship could look like. There are de-tailed notes for every starship explaining what hasbeen changed for what reason. The starships aresorted by type, name and source.

Notes: The 1550-LEX Space Yacht is described as amid-sized yacht with four luxury cabins on the upperdeck. The given stats, however, list 6 passengers. It ispossible that there are two additional passenger cabinson the lower deck where presumably the crew quartersare as well. The description further lists the modifica-tions of the yacht in detail. These include additionalweaponry and improvements regarding hyperdrive,sublight engines, hull, shields and sensors. For thesuggested stock stats of a SoroSuub 1550-LEX SpaceYacht both proton torpedo launchers as well as thelaser cannon was removed which had replaced theyacht's observation dome in its modified form. The hy-perdrive has been lowered from x1 to x2 and the sub-light speed was reduced from 6 units to 5 units withadjustment of the atmospheric speed. The hull strengthwas reduced from 4D+2 to 3D while shields were setfrom 3D to 1D. Finally a standard sensor suite wasused that is commonly used in space yachts and an av-erage price has been estimated by comparison withother space yacht prices (WEG 40143, Pirates & Pri-vateers, pages 70-72). The unmodifications increasedthe cargo capacity from 25 to 40 metric tons.

Notes: The "Muvon" is currently used as a personalpassenger transport and is part of the shuttle comple-ment of the Corellian Corvette "Farstar". As theLoronar B-7 is originally a light freighter, it is likelythat most of the cargo space has been converted to in-crease the passenger capacity. The "Muvon" in its cur-rent configuration has space for 8 passengers but only1 metric ton of cargo space left. Thus, a stock versionof a B-7 Light Freighter would probably have morecargo space and less passenger space than the"Muvon".

Notes: There is no description available for the "VoxenTass" making it difficult to figure out the modifica-tions made to the Brayl-class bulk transport. Lookingat the low subligh speed which remained unchangedfor the stock stats proposal of the transport it is pos-sible that the manufacturer didn't emphasize speed forhis vessels and thus the hyperdrive could even beslower than for the modified "Voxen Tass". For thepossible stock statistics it has been lowered from x3 tox4. To complete the statistics a standard sensor suitefor bulk transports has been added by comparing val-ues of several other bulk freighter types like for ex-ample the Corellian Action-series bulk freighters(WEG 40143, Pirates & Privateers, pages 68-69). It isprobable that another modification of the "VoxenTass" was the installation of passenger space as itscaptain, Leona Makk, was known to sympathize withthe Rebel Alliance and gave the player characters apassage on her ship. As passenger space is rather un-typical for bulk transports, the passenger capacity isset to zero for the stock model of a Brayl-class Bulktransport.

Notes: The "Cal Ambre" is described as an antiqueCal-class Battleship that has been converted into a lux-ury and gambling ship. During this conversion almostall weaponry had been removed. Thus the stock statssuggestion need to have again more weaponry as wellas passenger space converted into compartments for acomplete division of troops. Please note that the valuesfor weapon output and range are much lower than dur-ing the era of the Empire as they represent older stand-ards from ancient days. Another example of an ancientstarship still being in use during the days of the Em-pire is the Rendili/Vaufthau Shipyards InvincibleDreadnaught described in the Han Solo and the Cor-porate Sector Sourcebook (WEG 40042, pages 92-94).

Notes: The Imperial Cargo Barge was part of the sup-port fleet of the first Death Star. It is stated to be acapital-scale vessel armed with two laser cannons. Itappears that the Imperial Cargo Barge could be anarmed version of a bulk transport, maybe a larger ver-sion of Kuat Drive Yards Imperial Armored Transport(WEG 40143, Pirates & Privateers, page 68), the pre-decessor of the Imperial Star Galleon which is alsodescibed as armed cargo barge (WEG 40143, Pirates &Privateers, page 70). The somewhat slow sublightspeed given in the orginal description is typical for ci-vilian bulk freighters and could imply that also aslightly slower hyperdrive was used on thei shipdesign. The suggested stock statistics for the ImperialCargo Barge use a x3 hyperdrive and a standard sensorsuize typically seen for bulk freighters.

This could however beseen as a unique feature of Ghtroc Industries whosedesigns usually have a very good size to cargo spaceratio like for the Ghtroc class 720 (WEG 40055, TheRoleplaying Game 2nd Edition, page 121) and Ghtrocclass 580 (WEG 40143, Pirates & Privateers, page 62)light freighters.

Furthermore the weapons were upgraded and some ofthe cargo space was converted into a larger airlock anda small arsenal compartment according to the descrip-tion. For the suggested stock stats of the ExplorerScout Ship hyperdrive was reduced from x1 to x2, sub-light speed was lowered from 6 units to 5 units, andshields were reduced from 3D to 1D. It should bementioned that the modified sublight speed code of 6units did not match with the atmosphere speed (295;850 kmh) and hence was set back to 5 units which is inline with the atmosphere speed. The three laser can-nons are probably the most obvious modification, asscout ships are usually only lightly armed while threelaser cannons is seems much for a small ship of only15 meters.

The second modified Explorer Scout Ship, the"Widow Maker" does not come with a description, butits values for hyperdrive, sublight speed, maneuverab-ility, and shields are identical to those of the modified"Hell's Axe" where they were stated to be the mainmodifications. It therefore seems likely that the "Hell'sAxe" was used as a template to create the "WidowMaker" taking over these modifications as stock statsby mistake. For this reason, the stats of the modified"Hell's Axe" were used to create the stock stats of theExplorer Scout Ship as it was probably designed be-fore the "Widow Maker".

The "Widow Maker" mainly differs from the "Hell'sAxe" by additional space for passengers and prisoners(its owners arebounty hunters) and a different weaponspackage consisting only of one double laser cannon.Minor differences are in the values for sensors (+2scan for the "Widow Maker") and cargo capacity (-1metric ton for the "Widow Maker"). As the most im-portant modification for the bounty hunters probablywas the installation of the restraint capsules for theprisoners, the double laser cannon as only weaponcould still be the stock armamnet and hence has beentaken over into the proposed stock statistics.

Notes: The "Smoking Blaster" shares quite some similar-ities with the well-known Gallofree Yards "Rebel Trans-port", a modification of a stock version Gallofree YardsMedium Transport by the Rebel Alliance (WEG 40093,Star Wars Sourcebook, pages 48-48). Like the "RebelTransport", the "Smoking Blaster" is a capital-scaletransport. It has the same weapon strength and a similarlength and cargo capacity as the modified Gallofreetransport.

A difference is the type of cargo storage. While the Gal-lofree transport has an open, shell-like hull for the attach-ment of separate cargo pods, the Loronar transport usesinterior cargo space over five separate levels. Despite thisdifference, both designs have been around for severaldecades. This could mean that the stock versions of bothtransports shared technical similarities as well. The civil-ian stock version of the Gallofree Medium Transportdoes not have any weapons (WEG 40143, Pirates & Pri-vateers, page 67). Thus all weaponry was removed fromthe "Smoking Blaster" to create a possible stock versionof a Loronar Medium Transport. Other modificationsover the last decaded might have included a hyperdrivebackup, and a nav computer. These are also not presenton Galofree Medium Transports (neither on military norcivilian versions), and therefore were removed for thestock version of the Loronar Medium Transport as well.

The removed weapons andless powerful systems increased the yacht's cargo capa-city from 50 to 60 metric tons. As the description doesnot contain information about modifcations to thedrive systems, the hyperdrive and sublight speed codeswere taken over from the modified to the stock ver-sion. This makes the Luxury 2800 a faster yacht thanits successor, the Luxury 3000. This maybe reflectsthe use of the same sublight drives for the larger Lux-ury 3000 Soace Yacht making it slightly slower thanits predecessor.

Looking at the New Republic "Shroud"Freighter/Fighter System, a modified Ghtroc class 720freighter that has been converted to hold a single X-Wing fighter (WEG 40131, Thrawn Trilogy Source-book, pages 236-237), one can assume that starfighterroughly takes up 100 metric tons of cargo space in-cluding repair and refuelling facilities. This is in con-sistence with the data for hangar bays found in "D6Space: Ships" (WEG 51017, page 34). Roughly estim-ating that a shuttle-sized ship like the Skipray Blast-boast takes twice the space of a starfighter, and a spacebarge about twice the space of a shuttle, the requiredcargo space for installing the hangar on the "Impasse"would be around 1,600 metric tons. Compared to theremaining cargo space of 2 million metric tons, thehangar should be negligible as well for recalculatingthe original cargo space.

The capital-scale gravity well projector, however,should have consumed a serious amount of cargospace. The volume of the ellipsoid-shaped projectorcan be roughly calculated using the blueprints of theImperial Interdictor Cruiser (Essential Guide toVehicles and Vessels, 1st Edition, pages 86-87) to230,000 cubic meters. A conversion from cubic metersto metric tons for the Star Wars Universe is given inGalaxy Guide 8: Scouts (WEG 40061, pages 35-43,87) where 1 cubic meter equals 2.5 metric tons. The230,000 cubic meters of volume for the projector thenequals roughly 575,000 metric tons. As it is unlikelythat the space directly around the ellipsoid still can beused for cargo storage, it is probably better to assume acuboid in the interor of the ship which would roughlyuse 1.1 million metric tons. As the way the gravity wellgenerator is installed in the ship is unknown, it couldalso be possible that only one half of it is actually inthe ship while the other half forms a semi-sphere on

Wizards of the Coast interpreted this as aprice for a new ship and added a price of 122,000credits for a used one, similar to the price of a usedGallofree Medium Transport which has the same size.However, only 245,000 credits for a new capital-scaledtreansport seems surprisingly cheap, as even a newGallofree Medium Transport costs 350,000 credits(WEG 40143, Pirates & Privateers, page 67).

New medium sized transports of around 50 metersin length often have a price of roughly 250,000 credits.For example the Imperial Armed Transport with240,000 credits (WEG 40143, Pirates & Privateers,page 68), the Corellian HT-2200 Medium Transportwith 240,000 credits (WEG 40150, Stck Ships, page

An estim-ated list price for a new Y164 Transport could bearound 500,000 credits. However, the easiest way tosolve this problem is to see the WotC list price as amisinterpretation of the given stats for the "ArkanianDawn". To clarify this, the missing term "used only"has been added to the otherwise unchanged statisticsof the Y164 Thalassian Slave Transport.

Furthermore the "Jackpot" is described to havereceived a new sensor suite on cost of cargo and pas-senger space. This probably was the need for an addi-tional crewman to operate the new powerful sensors.For the suggested stock statistic of a Corellian YT-700Light Frighter, the sensor suite has been convertedback to standard sensor values, one crewman has beensubtracted while passenger space was increased by oneunit. It was probably due to bad maintenance that theatmosphere speed was below the value that it shouldhave related to a space speed of 3 units. This has beencorrected as well for the stock version of the YT-700transport.

Notes: The "Starbound Misfit" is described as a newfreighter mith some modifications. These probably in-cluded hyperdrive and backup, sublight engines,shields, and wepaons. Using typical values for lightfreighters should have produced a reasonable stockversion for a Corellian YT-1930 transport. It has to bementioned, however, that Wizards of the Coast (WotC)who held the Star Wars roleplaying game license from2000-2010 after the former holder of the license WestEnd Games lost its license in 1998, published a stockversion for the YT-1930 transport in "More Starships!A Starships of the Galaxy Web Enhancement". Usingthis data, the conversion guidelines from the WotCStar Wars Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook 1st Edi-tion (WotC 917938, pages 309-313) as well as the star-ship speed table from the WotC Star Wars RoleplayingGame Core Rulebook 2nd Edition (WotC 928767, page218), almost a complete stock version for the YT-1930transport could be reconstructed. WotC lists "cruise"speed for the light freighter which could be 2-4 units.Regarding that the YT-1930 is a pretty new transportdesign, the fastest possible was chosen for the stockversion. For the same reason, the value of 2D for man-euverability was kept, as for the WotC system man-euverability is only a rough value combining size andcrew skill. It produces identical values for all typicallight freighters, rather than a characteristic value foreach starship.

Notes: There is no description for "The Ship" given. Itseems to be just an example ship that can be used bythe player characters for the adventure. To make it asuitable vessel for the player characters the hyperdriveand its backup were most probably modified. For apossible stock version of a Corellian YT-2550 MediumTransport the values for the hyperdrive were set backfrom x1 to x2 and for the backup from x4 to x12. Thetwo laser cannons were retained as it is a larger me-dium freighter with more cargo potential like for ex-ample the Corellian HT-2200 Medium Transport(WEG 40150, Stock Ships, pages 49-52) which alsohas two laser cannons. There remains a problem withthe cargo space. Even with all modifications undone,the cargo capacity would still be far too low for a me-dium freighter. Please note that this should not becompared with the Corellian Barloz Medium Trans-port which also only has a cargo capacity of 120 met-ric tons (WEG 40150, Stock Ships, pages 53-56). TheBarloz medium freighter is actually a design from theOld Republic where a medium freighter was compara-bale to a light freighter during the Empire (WEG40150, Stock Ships, page 53). The YT-2550 MediumTransport should rather me compared with other me-dium freighters of the Imperial era like the CorellianHT-2200 Transport, the Mobquet Medium CargoHauler, the Subla Ransom Cargo Hauler or the ZuracoCargo Hauler (WEG 40143, Pirates & Privateers,pages 66-67). These are of similar size as the YT-2550transport and have a cargo capacity of several hundredmetric tons. The easiest way to solve this problemwould be to assume that there is simply missing an-other zero for the cargo capacity of 80 metric tons in

the stats given for the modified YT-2550 transport.Thus the suggested stock statistics for the YT-2550Medium Transport list the cargo capacity with 800metric tons. A price was estimated by comparison withother medium freighters, and the consumables wereincreased from 1 to 4 moths to reflect the longer spacejourneys typical for larger transports.

Notes: Yvarema Relief Vessels are the third class ofYvarema starships known. While the Yvarema Warship(WEG 40112, Darkstryder: Endgame, page 90 is amodification of the Yvarema Scout Ship (WEG 40121,Darkstryder: The Kathol Rift, page 84), the YvaremaRelief Vessel can not be another variant of the only 20meter long scout ship. The Yvarema Relief Vessel isdescribed as a ferry starship with a capacity of 50 pas-sengers and docking gear for several life pods whichare not further specified. This implies a length of morethan just 20 meters, and thus a typical length for aspace transport has been chosen. The "starfighter pi-loting" skill of the original stats description seems un-suitable for a transport ship that also serves as a ferryfor passengers to larger ship according the description.As both other Yvarema starship types use the "archaicstarship piloting" skill, it is also used for the suggestedstock stats of the Yvarema Relief Vessel.
