Frost administration recently called the LAUSD Beyond the Bell Unit to request for our Youth Services after-school program to be more structured. We are pleased to announce the outcome of our collaboration. The Beyond The Bell Unit at Frost is announcing a change in the YS program procedure. The change will address participant/student accountability, specifically attendance. The after-school program will now employ a sign-in and sign-out procedure in an effort to ensure all students are accounted for on a daily basis. The new procedure will go into effect on October 17, 2016. All Beyond the Bell after-school participants /students will need to have the following on file: Before and After-School Program Application / Agreement (Attachment B) Middle School Early Release Policy **All participants, current and new are to submit a completed after-school registration packet** Daily Attendance Procedures: Sign-in: Sign-in will start after school and last for 20 minutes after dismissal at cafeteria tables. All students will check-in with their designated Beyond the Bell staff member to sign-in for the day. Sign-out: Sign-out will be located centrally at the bus pavilion (service road). Sign-out can occur in one of two ways: sign-out by authorized parent/guardian/adult or by authorization per the Middle School Release Policy. Program Schedule: Passing Period and Sign-In Time – Starts at dismissal (20 minutes) Supper – Starts at dismissal (35 minutes) Program Components (1.5 to 2 hours) End of Program procedures (30 minutes) 1. Sports Program: Program offerings will remain the same. Throughout the year, four core sports will be offered; all participants will have a choice of joining one or more of the following components: a. Flag Football (Aug. 29 – Oct. 21) b. Basketball (Oct. 24 – Jan. 13) c. Volleyball (Jan. 17 – Mar. 10) d. Soccer (Mar. 13 – May 12). Each core sport season comprises an eight-week format with 2-3 days of skill development and 1-2 days of intramural league play. Within each sport there will also be an opportunity for students to be selected to represent Frost MS and compete in weekend interscholastic leagues sponsored by Beyond the Bell. Supplemental and 6 th grade sports may be added to the calendar dependent on funding. 2. Dance Program: Dance techniques, counts and routines will be taught with the goal of performances scheduled after-school and the possibility of competing at the BTB Dance Masters in the Winter. 3. Homework Supervision. A daily check and light homework assistance (not tutoring) will be available for all interested students.
