BOOGIE DOWN BRONX: The Dodgers tonight continue a three-
game series with the New York Yankees as they carry on their season-
long 10-game road trip (2-2). The Dodgers lead San Francisco by 4.0
games in the NL West and will play two more with New York before
heading to Phoenix for a four-game set with Arizona this weekend. The
Dodgers’ final homestand of the 2016 season will be Sept. 19-25 against
the Giants (3) and Rockies (4).
The Dodgers are 6-5 all-time in Interleague play vs. the
Yankees, also playing the Bombers in 2004 (three games),
2010 (3) and 2013 (4). Los Angeles has played just three
regular season games in Yankee Stadium, going 2-1.
Los Angeles is 9-9 in Interleague play this season and with two
games remaining is seeking its first winning Interleague record
since going 11-9 in 2014. Last year, the club was 10-10 in its
20 Interleague contests.
DOING IT ALL: Corey Seager, a top candidate for National League
Rookie of the Year honors, went 2-for-5 with an RBI yesterday and
continues to rank among the NL leaders in hits (177, 2nd), runs (95, 5th),
doubles (39, T-2nd), total bases (297, 4th), batting average (.319, 3rd),
multi-hit games (53, T-2nd), extra-base hits (67, 6th) and slugging pct.
(.536, 10th).
Seager’s 25 home runs are the most ever by a Dodger shortstop
and the third most by a Los Angeles rookie, behind only Mike
Piazza (35, 1993) and Joc Pederson (26, 2015). He already
holds the Los Angeles record for doubles and runs scored by a
rookie and currently has the highest on-base percentage by an
LA rookie, while approaching the team single-season rookie
leaders in most major offensive categories:
Los Angeles Rookie Leaders, Since 1958
Category Seager (Rank) Leader
Hits 177 (2nd) Sax (180, 1982)
Runs 95 (1st) Seager
Doubles 39 (1st) Seager
Home Runs 25 (3rd) Piazza (35, 1993)
Average .319 (1st) Piazza (.318, 1993)
SLG .536 (2nd) Piazza (.561, 1993)
OBP .378 (1st) Piazza (.370, 1993)
Corey (25) and his brother Kyle (28) have combined to hit 53
home runs this year, which is currently tied for eighth all-time
among brother duos and the most since Justin and Melvin
Upton combined for 54 in 2011. The record is 61, held by Jason
(41) and Jeremy (20) Giambi (2002) - Source: Elias Sports
Bureau. According to Elias, the Seagers are the first set of
brothers in baseball history to each hit at least 25 home runs in
a season.
Seager has flashed more pop than any shortstop in baseball:

SHOOT OFF THE FIREWORKS: The Dodgers have had 28 different
players on the DL this year, which is the most for any team in the last 30
years since at least 1987. The mark eclipsed the 2012 Boston Red Sox,
who had 27. (Source: Stats, LLC).
JUST 10 GAMES LEFT FOR THE GOAT: Dodger Hall of Fame
broadcaster Vin Scully is scheduled to call just 10 more games for the
Dodgers, a team he has worked for since 1950. Next Friday, Dodger fans
can salute Vin as the club will honor its longtime voice Sept. 23, prior to
the game vs. Colorado, with Vin Scully Appreciation Day. The
festivities will include special guests, an on-field ceremony with Vin and
his family, as well as a video tribute. For tickets, go to
dodgers.com/lalovesvin.
THE LONGBALL: The Dodgers belted two homers last night and are
averaging 1.22 home runs per game this year (175 HR/143 G), their most
since 2004 (1.25 HR/G). Four Dodgers have powered 20+ home runs –
Justin Turner (27), Yasmani Grandal (25), Corey Seager (25) and
Joc Pederson (22) – marking just the seventh time in Los Angeles
history and the first time since 2001 that four or more players have done
so. Pederson needs three more homers to give the Dodgers four players
with at least 25 home runs for the first time since the 1997 campaign
when Mike Piazza (40), Eric Karros (31), Todd Zeile (31) and Raul
Mondesi (30) all belted at least 30.
In 52 games since the All-Star break, the Dodgers rank among
the Majors’ best in slugging percentage (.447, 4th) and runs per
game (5.00, 3rd). The Dodgers’ slugging pct. is on pace to be
the highest in Los Angeles history after the All-Star break,
outpacing the previous mark of .434 set in 2008.
LET’S GET LOONY: Two Dodger minor league teams are still
playing postseason baseball:
Triple-A Oklahoma City tonight begins its best-of-five PCL
championship series at El Paso. The game begins at 4:35 p.m.
PT and Logan Bawcom is scheduled to take the hill.
Single-A Great Lakes lost to Western Michigan last night and
this evening will play the deciding game of its best-of-three
Eastern Division Championship series. A victory will put the
Loons in the Midwest League championship.
IS THIS THE SCHOOLYARD?: Julio Urías will make his 14th start
of the season this evening and has not lost since June 12, a span of nine
starts (11 games). Urías is 4-0 with a 2.25 ERA (8 ER/32.0 IP) in seven
games (five starts) since the All-Star break. In his last five starts, he is
3-0 with a 1.71 ERA (5 ER/26.1 IP) with 26 strikeouts and just five
walks. Tonight, Urías returns to the city in which he made his Major
League debut, which resulted in a loss to the Mets on May 27.
According to STATS, LLC, Urías and Kenta Maeda’s 19
combined wins are the most by a pair of rookies in the Majors
this season, just ahead of Milwaukee’s Zach Davies and Junior
Guerra (17).
According to Elias, Dodger rookies have combined for 26 wins
this season, their highest total in one year since 1955, when
their rookies combined for 28 (including two from Sandy
Koufax).
REMEMBER WHEN: The Dodgers and Yankees have met in 11
World Series totaling 66 games (all of them between 1941 and 1981);
According to STATS, LLC, both figures are the highest between any
two opponents in the history of the Fall Classic. New York is 8-3 against
the Dodgers all-time in the World Series, winning the first five Series
between the teams, before splitting the last six.
THE BIG MAN: Dodger closer Kenley Jansen ranks among the
National League’s best in saves (43, 2nd), ERA (1.75, 3rd), opponents’
batting average (.148, 2nd), WHIP (0.65, 1st MLB) and strikeouts (91 in
61.2 innings, 5th).
Jansen is one save shy of matching his career high of 44, set in
2014, and has posted just the seventh 40-save season in
franchise history.
The Dodger bullpen tossed 4.0 scoreless innings last night and
ranks second in the NL in both ERA (3.29, 186 ER/509.0 IP)
and opponents’ batting average (.216), while leading the
league in WHIP (1.13).
