21 And athey shall pass through it, hardly bestead and hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and bcurse their king and their God, and look upward. 22 And they shall look unto the earth; and behold trouble and adarkness, bdimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness. CHAPTER 9 Isaiah speaks about the Messiah—The people in darkness will see a great Light—Unto us a Child is born—He will be the Prince of Peace and reign on David’s throne 1 Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, bwhen at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations. 2 The people that walked in adarkness have seen a great blight: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. 3 Thou hast multiplied the bnation, cand not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil. 4 For thou hast broken the ayoke of his bburden, and the staff of his shoulder, the crod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian. 5 aFor every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire. 6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his agovernment and peace there shall be no bend, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with djustice from henceforth even for ever. The ezeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. 8 ¶ The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel. 9 And all the people shall know, even Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria, that say in the apride and stoutness of heart, 10 The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycomores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars.e blessing which I left unto the sons ISAIAH 8:21-22; 9:1-10 “His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God... ” (Isaiah 9:6) 25a Gen. 15:8 (8-11) Lev 1:2 b Gen. 37:10 (9-11); 1 Num. 2:22. 26 a Prov. 15:10; 1 Ne. 16:2. b W of M 1:17; 1 Corin. 9:4 Pet 21:43 (41-43). 27a Joh n. 15:8 Mat 1:2 Mark. 7:1 Luk. 2:22. CHAPTER 9

Isaiah speaks about the Messiah—The people in darkness will see a great Light—Unto us a Child is born—He will be the Prince of Peace and reign on David’s throne

1 Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, bwhen at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations.2 The people that walked in

adarkness have seen a great blight: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.3 Thou hast multiplied the

bnation, cand not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men

rejoice when they divide the spoil.4 For thou hast broken the ayoke

of his bburden, and the staff of his shoulder, the crod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.5 aFor every battle of the warrior

is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.6 For unto us a child is born, unto

us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.7 Of the increase of his

agovernment and peace there shall be no bend, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with djustice from henceforth even for ever. The ezeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.8 ¶ The Lord sent a word into

Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel.9 And all the people shall know,

even Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria, that say in the apride and stoutness of heart,10 The bricks are fallen down, but

ISAIAH 8:21-22; 9:1-10and daughters of Laman; wherefore, thou shalt not utterly be destroyed; but in the end thy seed shall be blessed.10 And it came to pass that when

my father had made an end of speaking unto them, behold, he spake unto the sons of Ishmael, yea, and even all his household.11 And after he had made an end

of speaking unto them, he spake unto Sam, saying: Blessed art thou, and thy a seed; for thou shalt inherit the land like unto thy brother Nephi. And thy seed shall be numbered with his seed; and thou shalt be even like unto thy brother, and thy seed like unto his seed; and thou shalt be blessed in all thy days.12 And it came to pass after my

father, Lehi, had a spoken unto all his household, according to the feelings of his heart and the Spirit of the Lord which was in him, he waxed old. And it came to pass that he died, and was buried.13 And it came to pass that not

many days after his death, Laman and Lemuel and the sons of Ishmael were angry with me because of the admonitions of the Lord.14 For I, Nephi, was constrained

to speak unto them, according to his word; for I had spoken many things unto them, and also my father, before his death; many of which sayings are written upon

mine a other plates; for a more history part are written upon mine other plates.15 And upon a these I write the

things of my soul, and many of the scriptures which are engraven upon the plates of brass. For my soul c delighteth in the scriptures, and my heart d pondereth them, and writeth them for the e learning and the profit of my children.

16 Behold, my a soul delighteth in the things of the Lord; and my b heart pondereth continually upon the things which I have seen and heard.

17 Nevertheless, notwithstanding the great a goodness of the Lord, in showing me his great and marvelous works, my heart exclaimeth: O b wretched man that I am! Yea, my heart c sorroweth because of my flesh; my soul grieveth because of mine iniquities.

18 I am encompassed about, because of the temptations and the sins which do so easily a beset me.

19 And when I desire to rejoice, my heart groaneth because of my sins; nevertheless, I know in whom I have a trusted.

20 My God hath been my a support; he hath led me through

1 Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, bwhen at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations.2 The people that walked in

adarkness have seen a great blight: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.3 Thou hast multiplied the

us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.7 Of the increase of his

21 And athey shall pass through it, hardly bestead and hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and bcurse their king and their God, and look upward.22 And they shall look unto the
