LORD KITCHENER SWIM TEAM

Congratulations to the Lord Kitchener swimmers who have participated in our first two meets. On Saturday, January 19th, a dozen members of the team participated in an afternoon development swim meet at Lord Byng Pool. The swimmers had a chance to practice individual and relay events. Everyone swam incredibly well and learned a great deal about swim meets. On January 25th and January 26th twenty members of the team participated in the St. George’s Swim Meet. Many members of the team set personal best times and many ribbons and medals were won by the team. It was incredibly exciting and fun to watch the team compete.

We have at least one more swim meet on Saturday, February 2nd, at Lord Byng and we are hoping most of the team will be able to participate in the meet. Good luck to everyone. Some members of the team may also be participating in the B.C. Swim Meet in Victoria! Best wishes to all those going.

Also, well done to the team for their training efforts. Twice a week the team has been training from 7:15 am to 8:30 am. They began their training in November and the progress in the technique and speed has been tremendous.

A huge thank you to Anna Nelson for all her coordinating of entries and emails and to the entire Nelson family for their help at the meets. Thank you to Albert Ho and Nathalie Walshaw for keeping track of attendance at all of the early morning practices. Also a big thank you to our head coach, Phil Skinder.

Thank You!

An additional THANK YOU to Ms. Luke and the Me to We club for their amazing help wrapping all of the hamper boxes for our Sister School families for Christmas.

LORD KITCHENER BASKETBALL

The basketball season is well under way and all four teams are having fun and working hard. We had six pre-season games against ICS and these were extremely helpful in developing our game skills and preparing us for our season. All the teams have already shown significant development in their skills and game strategies. There are four more weeks of games for the juniors and three more weeks for the seniors. The senior teams will then hopefully be participating in the Vancouver School Board Competitive Basketball Tournament. Best wishes to all the teams.

Thank you to Wendy Epp and Cam Nelson who have been the lead coaches of the Senior Boys’ Team and Sev Yeterian who has been helping to coach the Junior Boys’ Team. Also thank you to Ms. Schouten who has been assisting with the Junior Girls’ Team.

It has been very enjoyable coaching and refereeing the teams.

Thanks Natalie and Chloe! Thank you to all those families who purchased 50/50 tickets at the December Craft and Carol Night. And a special thanks to the Snip family who's ticket was drawn and chose to donate their winnings back to the two charities that Natalie and Chloe selected:

BCSPCA and Make a Wish Foundation. With your help the girls raised $300 which was split between the two charities.

Author Visit for Our K-3 Students

Author Deborah Hodge visited the Library on Wednesday, January 23, and shared her love of writing with the Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3 students. She showed beautiful images from her visits to the Pacific West Coast and talked how she uses them for her inspiration in her book "West Coast Wild". Deborah read her book, "Bear's Winter Party" and gave us a sneak peek at her soon to be released " Cooking With Bear". She topped the fun morning off with a chance for students to touch some of the furs from animals she writes about in her non-fiction books.

A special thank you goes to our Kitchener PAC for providing the funds for this event.

Ms. Shepherd-Dynes
