January 21, 2016 LoomisChaffee School: Carbon Footprint Review Prepared By: Michaelanne Butler, Charitable Carbon Offset Program Officer To our friends at Loomis Chaffee, Jadora's CCOP team at has thoroughly enjoyed working with LoomisChaffee School in these early stages of their carbon accounting journey. We are thrilled to at the possibilities this milestone opens up for future sustainability endeavors. This letter is to certify that Jadora International has carefully reviewed and rereviewed this phase of Loomis' Carbon Footprint Report (CFP) methodology for accuracy and certainty. While further review may be necessary when a historic inventory is compiled, we are confident in the integrity of the present inventory. The report below details Loomis' overall carbon footprint (CFP) and a multilevel benchmark analysis for accuracy and integrity, which will inform both present offsets and future conservation efforts. Thank you, Michaelanne Butler, CCOP Officer

January  21,  2016  Loomis-‐Chaffee  School:  Carbon  Footprint  Review  Prepared  By:  Michaelanne  Butler,  Charitable  Carbon  Offset  Program  Officer      To  our  friends  at  Loomis  Chaffee,      Jadora's  CCOP  team  at  has  thoroughly  enjoyed  working  with  Loomis-‐Chaffee  School  in  these  early  stages  of  their  carbon  accounting  journey.  We  are  thrilled  to  at  the  possibilities  this  milestone  opens  up  for  future  sustainability  endeavors.      This  letter  is  to  certify  that  Jadora  International  has  carefully  reviewed  and  re-‐reviewed  this  phase  of  Loomis'  Carbon  Footprint  Report  (CFP)  methodology  for  accuracy  and  certainty.  While  further  review  may  be  necessary  when  a  historic  inventory  is  compiled,  we  are  confident  in  the  integrity  of  the  present  inventory.      The  report  below  details  Loomis'  overall  carbon  footprint  (CFP)  and  a  multi-‐level  benchmark  analysis  for  accuracy  and  integrity,  which  will  inform  both  present  offsets  and  future  conservation  efforts.        Thank  you,

Carbon  Footprint  Review:  In  checking  for  accuracy  and  integrity  of  an  Institution's  Carbon  Footprint,  Jadora  International's  standard  review  process  involves  as  three  layers  of  analysis:    1.    Peer  Benchmarking:    Prior  to  delving  into  the  inventory  data,  this  process  checks  for  red  flags  by  comparing  gross  CFP  to  that  of  similarly  situated  institutions.  For  Loomis-‐Chaffee,  the  institutional  criteria  of  comparison  were  a)  student  populations  under  1,200,  b)  located  in  the  rural  Northeastern  United  States,  and  c)  publically  available  carbon  footprint  data.      According  to  this  analysis,  Loomis'  reported  emissions  appear  to  be  within  an  acceptable  range  for  rural  preparatory  schools.

     2.  Normalized  Emissions  Comparison:      Again,  checking  for  red  flags,  this  process  compares  actual  CO2e  emissions  to  normalized  emissions  per  square  foot  projections  based  on  data  gathered  by  the  American  College  and  University  Presidents'  Climate  Commitment  (ACUPCC).  Encouragingly,  Loomis'  actual  emissions  are  lower  than  the  national  average  (calculated  at  .013  MT  of  CO2e  per  1,000  square  feet  of  building  space)  predicted.

3.  Data  Review    In  the  absence  of  red  flags,  the  final  step  in  the  review  process  takes  a  detailed  look  at  the  original  CFP  calculations  for  consistency  and  accuracy.    Without  historic  CFP  data  to  work  from,  Jadora  worked  with  Jeff  Dyreson,  the  Director  of  Environmental  Sustainability,  and  a  dedicated  taskforce  to  compile  and  calculate  Loomis'  first  CFP  in  accordance  with  ACUPCC  and  the  Association  for  the  Advancement  of  Sustainability  in  Higher  Education  (AASHE)  best  practices.    These  best  practices  require  reporting  those  emissions  generated  directly  on  campus  (Scope  1),  by  purchased  electricity,  steam,  or  chilled  water  (Scope  2),  and  some  of  those  generated  by  commuting,  air  travel,  and  solid  waste  (Scope  3).

Data  Review  Cont.    While  best  practices  do  not  require  institutions  to  include  student  travel  to  and  from  home  in  their  CFP  calculation,  Loomis  has  opted  for  a  more  rigorous  CFP  accounting  standard  by  including  this  optional  information.    For  the  purposes  of  comparison,  the  above  calculation  excluded  this  data,  but  you  will  find  a  complete  account  of  Loomis'  carbon  footprint  below.
