Preliminary TaskMethods

Research ProgressionFull ProductMethods

I used the intranet to look at the events going on in York College. I did not ask any College students for their opinion.

Analysis

I did not do any analysis. I went on to the planning stage.

I used Survey Monkey to research my target audience’s likes and dislikes.

Analysis

I analysed the results and made charts to help me see the trends. This helped me to see what my target audience liked so I could get the magazine style and content right first time.

Planning ProgressionPreliminary TaskOrganisation

Full ProductOrganisation

I didn’t really do any planning. I just dived in and made it on the fly within and hour and a half.

Drafting

I didn’t do any redrafting. I just went for it. I thought it looked okay because at that stage I didn’t really know what I was looking for.

I made a checklist of all the tasks that needed to be done like taking photo’s, style sheet, mood board, writing content etc. and prioritised the tasks.

Drafting

I made 3 or 4 drafts for each page, tried different page layouts and photos before producing the final draft.

Aesthetic ProgressionPreliminary TaskWriting

Full ProductWriting

Writing was only needed for the cover so I didn’t plan it.

Layout

I just made a flat plan for the contents page and laid out the cover by eye without a plan.

Photographs

I just took a photo of a friend who was on a break at the same time as me. I used the photo as it was.

I researched for accurate facts using actual quotes, names and dates sourced from a lot of different interviews. I made several drafts of my article.

Layout

I started from my plans but I improved it as I went along.

Photographs

I planned the photos that I needed. I had set days to do them. I edited the photos in Photoshop to make them look professional.

Technical ProgressionPreliminary TaskHardware

Full ProductHardware

I only used a computer and a camera for this task.

As well as a computer and a camera with a memory card to store and transfer my photos.

Software

I used Internet Explorer to access the college diary on the intranet and Photoshop to make my magazine cover. I hardly used any of the tools in Photoshop because I didn’t know how.

Software

I used Internet Explorer to download fonts, Survey Monkey, Word for my article, Paint to edit pictures, Powerpoint for my evaluation and Blogger to track my project. In Photoshop, I used a range of tools including Magnetic lasso, clone tool, magic eraser and colour adjustment to create my final magazine.
