The IP Convergence
• The convergence is coming….– It is hard to predict when, but ultimately everything that communicates will have an IP address and use IP protocols to exchange data
• New link technologies support IP natively, e.g. 6LoWPAN, IEEE 1901– Incorporation of these links into systems will provide new capabilities and features
• The non‐IP installed base will persist during the convergence– Interoperating with the non‐IP world will be required for many years
AHR 2015 ‐ Chicago
IP Transports Data
• Higher level protocols add semantics and can provide interoperability– LONMARK Profiles will provide interoperability to IP based systems and provide interoperability with existing LONMARK nodes when the IzoT™ Protocol is used
• The IzoT protocol adds the services missing from IP– Multicast, secure multicast, confirmed multicast and others
• The IzoT protocol supports link specific IP header compression, maximizing the efficiency of lower speed links

Benefits
• The flexibility of link technology with IP
• The interoperability of LONMARK Profiles
• The ability to support LONMARK Specifications or IP specifications with a single SKU
– Even BACnet/IP can be supported on this same SKU

VDI Profile
• German Engineering Standards Group
• Creating LonMark versions of profiles for all their profile standars
• Working with LonMark to create system level profiles for data element connections
