While this is not strictly an historical presentation, it does cover the Museum’s history and purpose, and includes a new 15-minute video highlighting the ongoing work to fully restore Mary Baker Eddy’s home at 400 Beacon Street in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. The Class of 1898: Imparting a Fresh Impulse In 1889, Mary Baker Eddy closed the Massachusetts Metaphysical College in order to revise Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures and put the foundations of her church on a more sure footing, not knowing whether she would ever teach again. Nine years later, Mrs. Eddy took significant steps to ensure the quality of Christian Science teaching. One of those steps was to convene the class of 1898. This program examines the circumstances, the students, and the far-reaching effects of Mrs. Eddy’s last class. Sunday’s presentation is from noon - 1 pm with a youthful approach focusing on the early workers attending Mrs. Eddy’s Class of 1898. We’ll use play-acting as a way of learning more about Calvin Frye, James Neal, Emma and Abigail Thompson, and many other pioneers in Christian Science. Both programs are free. Saturday’s program will have a short break with snacks. Sunday’s program includes a light lunch following our Sunday service.
