LONDON (AP) — Taking in the London landmarks, Hal Steinbrenner turned his eyes from statues to more familiar sights.

“I walked through Trafalgar Square yesterday and saw a lot of Yankees hats,” the team owner told The Associated Press. “I don’t think it had any-thing to do with today.”

Tuesday was launch day for Major League Baseball’s foray into Europe, with two games between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox set for June 2019 at London’s Olympic Stadium.

The Yankees caps spotted by Steinbrenner as he wandered by Nelson’s Column was a reminder that in so many parts of the world his team is more of a fashion brand than a 27-time champion.

The aim is to change that with regular-season games in London, moving baseball closer to its European fans and a new audience.

“It’s about introducing the sport by bringing the players,” Steinbrenner said, “by bringing the greatest rivalry in baseball here.”

It won’t be a one-off excur-sion into London for MLB.

The intention is to emulate the NFL and NBA and send fi xtures every year to the British capital.

After the trial run next year — the Red Sox and Yankees will play on June 29 and 30 — MLB is also committed to playing in London in 2020 as part of a long-term strategy to establish a footprint in the city.

“We hope this series will be the beginning of a relationship with London that persists and a continuation of increasing expo-sure for Major League Baseball in Europe,” Commissioner Rob Manfred said Tuesday.

The NFL is so entrenched in London now that Shahid Khan has lodged a bid with the Eng-lish Football Association to buy Wembley Stadium, where his Jacksonville Jaguars have been playing annually since 2013.

MLB is heading to a sta-dium that has been a drain on the British taxpayer since it was built for the 2012 Olympics and then reconstructed to accom-modate English Premier League club West Ham as a tenant. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Timberwolves assistant coach Rick Brunson abruptly resigned Tuesday and the team said he had fallen short of meeting its “high standards of conduct” amid reports he had acted improperly toward women.

The Timberwolves announced Brunson’s resigna-tion in a one-sentence release and later sent a statement about the 45-year-old former NBA player.

“Our entire organization — made up of the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Minnesota Lynx and Iowa Wolves— is deeply committed to creating a safe work environment for our employees, partners and fans,” the team said.

“We work to maintain high standards of conduct and expect our staff to lead by example. We did not believe Mr. Brunson’s conduct was consistent with those standards.”

The Star Tribune, citing a source it did not identify, reported Brunson had been the subject of complaints of improper conduct toward women. The Athletic also

reported that he was accused of improper conduct toward women while on the job. The Timberwolves did not return phone calls seeking additional comment and the NBA did not respond to a message.

In 2014, Brunson was arrested in suburban Chicago and charged with sexually assaulting a massage therapist. He was acquitted of all counts in that case, saying he had an ongoing extramarital affair with the woman.

The Timberwolves hired Brunson in 2016, and last season was his fourth working under coach Tom Thibodeau, who helped the team reach the NBA playoffs for the fi rst time in 14 years. Brunson had pre-vious assistant coaching jobs

with the Denver Nuggets, Char-lotte and Chicago, where he worked under Thibodeau.

Brunson played in the NBA for nine years, including stops in New York and Houston. He made it to the playoffs in fi ve of his nine seasons, and was a member of the 1999 Eastern Conference champion New York Knicks, who lost to San Antonio in the fi nals.

Brunson is the father of Jalen Brunson, The Associated Press men’s college basketball player of the year who declared for the NBA draft last month after winning two national titles at Villanova.

The star guard averaged 18.9 points and 4.6 assists per game in 40 games for the Wildcats this season.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — If NASCAR is for sale, the France family isn’t saying.

An attempt to calm employees about the future of the struggling, family owned racing series came Tuesday from NASCAR President Brent Dewar, but his memo said only that there would be no comment on “industry rumors.”

It’s long whispered that NASCAR could be on the selling block and Chairman Brian France has become dra-matically less visible since the end of last season. Most public duties are now handled by Dewar, who addressed employees about a report a day earlier that Goldman Sachs had been retained to explore a potential sale for the France family.

The France family, which owns a majority stake in the nation’s top auto racing series, “remains dedicated to the long term growth of our sport,” Dewar wrote in the memo obtained by The Associated Press from a person who shared it on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the topic.

The memo did not specifi-cally address any possible deal by the France family.

“For over 70 years, the France family has worked hard to invest in the sport of NASCAR, including our recent acquisitions of ARCA,” Dewar wrote, referring to the recent purchase of the Automobile Racing Series of America, a lower-tier stock car series that sometimes races in conjunction with NASCAR events.

NASCAR has seen ratings and attendance decline in recent seasons and several big-name sponsors have scaled back or pulled out. Lowe’s, the only sponsor seven-time champion Jimmie Johnson has had in his 18-year career, is leaving at the end of the season. Home Depot, Target, Subway, Dollar General and scores of other sponsors have already exited racing.

Title sponsor Monster Energy signed just a one-year extension through 2019 and NASCAR has said it is re-eval-uating its sponsorship structure.

Team owners seemed sur-prised by Monday’s report from Reuters citing unidentified sources that the family wished to explore a sale. One owner, who spoke to AP only on condi-tion of anonymity, said France firmly told owners in recent months the series was not for sale. Two weeks earlier, at Tal-ladega Superspeedway, a dif-ferent team owner told AP he believed the family would listen to offers for NASCAR.

Television ratings have con-tinued to drop over the past decade and the retirements of Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart, Danica Patrick

and Carl Edwards may have contributed to fans tuning out. But at-track attendance has also suffered and the three public companies that own tracks where NASCAR races are held have all reported attendance revenue declines.

Despite its woes, NASCAR remains “one of the strongest brand franchises in America,” said Larry Chiagouris, a mar-keting professor at Pace Uni-versity if New York. “Seeking to get a measure of its value now is a smart idea because we are witnessing the merging of entertainment and advertising assets at a pace not seen in sev-eral years. There could be many potential buyers, particularly media conglomerates and, yes, even some of the tech titans that could incorporate NASCAR into larger marketing and media programs and initiatives.”

Greg Portell, lead partner at global consulting firm A.T. Kearney, based in Chicago, said it was possible NASCAR’s owners are simply getting feed-back on its value. He agreed that private firms or big enter-tainment companies would make the most sense as a buyer, “an AEG or an IMG.”

“From an outsider’s view looking at NASCAR, their value proposition to marketers for a long time was, we have great visibility, we have great enthusiastic fans and that’s why you should spend money,” he said.

“But in today’s world, the value is much more around the potential to really create lifestyle marketing. So those drivers and those athletes are no different than movie enter-tainers or musicians, rock stars, really, and if you look at the way those businesses have gone, companies are really trying to lock up those talents in 360-degree deals. So you can start seeing how they can mone-tize a driver’s likeness on social media, on product merchandise, not just on the brand that goes on the car.” He added:

“It would be interesting to someone who knows how to monetize stars, celebrity. ... It doesn’t come along very often that you can buy a business that has scale in a very competi-tive world. It’s not like they’re buying pro bowling or the darts league or lacrosse.

Even Major League Soccer, you have to build that follower-ship. Here, they already have a followership. They reach mil-lions of consumers. And so the question is how do you shine that up a bit and take advan-tage of it in a new marketing environment that really hasn’t been tested by the current ownership.”

NASCAR was founded in 1948 by Bill France Sr., and handed down to his sons, Bill France Jr., and Jim.

generate revenues that will bal-ance the books,” London Mayor Sadiq Khan said.

The stadium will have a capacity of 55,000 for baseball.

“It’s going to be a different crowd,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said before the teams played each other Tuesday night in New York. “It should be fun. The family is going to go and we’re going to have a blast and the players, they’re going to experience something different.

“Everybody knows about the rivalry and how much it means over here, so they’re going to have a taste of the rivalry over there in London.”

England is already a second home to John Henry, the owner of the Red Sox and Liverpool of the Premier League. Talks between Henry and Stein-brenner began more than two years ago about taking the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry across the Atlantic.

“All of us here today look forward to hearing the cry ‘Play Ball’ in London,” Henry said at the MLB launch at a London cinema off Regent Street. Boston will be the home team for both games.

By playing in London in June during the Premier League offseason, baseball is muscling into cricket territory.

“We think there is an affi nity with cricket,” Manfred said. “There’s a lot of carry-over of that fan base into baseball.”

After all, the 2014 MLB season began at the Sydney Cricket Ground in front of Aus-tralian fans.

“I think particularly they liked the fact that our foul balls get to stay in the stands and hopefully that will be popular

here as well,” Manfred said. “Usurping cricket is a real chal-lenge, but we would like to think of it as a complimentary effort. The same sort of fans might be attracted.”

The bane of the British summer, as cricket fans expe-rience too often, is rain wiping out play. And rain would cer-tainly spell trouble for the MLB games in London.

“We will pray we actually get the games in,” Manfred said. “Because of the sched-uling, rain will be diffi cult for us in the event we get bad weather. ... If we lose a game it would have to be made up in the United States.”

Still, Manfred sees London as a “permanent home” for a franchise one day.

“When you play 162 times in 187 days, travel is an issue,” he said. “The world continues to get smaller. As travel gets better, we hope it’s a possibility.”

The NFL appears no closer to basing a team in Britain despite so much chatter since regular-season games were brought to London in 2007. There have been 18 games at Wembley and three at Twickenham.

tThree more NFL games are scheduled for this year, including one at the new sta-dium of Premier League club Tottenham.

The NBA and NHL have also held regular-season games in London, and now MLB is getting in on the act.

“I’ve never been to London, so I think it’s pretty cool that we’re going across the pond. I like that,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said.

“A chance to spread our game. I think that’s awesome.”

CINCINNATI (AP) — Matt Harvey is getting another chance, this time with a historically bad team in a city that will have far fewer late-night temptations than the Big Apple. The Mets are getting a catcher who can help at their most unsettled position.

The Cincinnati Reds acquired the former New York ace for catcher Devin Mesoraco on Tuesday, shortly before the teams started their game at Great American Ball Park.

The deal provided a fresh start for two former All-Stars whose careers have been sidetracked by injuries.

Mesoraco merely had to walk to the visiting clubhouse and was on the bench for the fi rst pitch by Luis Castillo, which Mesoraco originally supposed to catch.

The Mets created a spot for him to play immediately when they put third baseman Todd Frazier was put on the 10-day dis-abled list with a strained left hamstring. Harvey is in Los Angeles working out and will join the team for the start of a series there against the Dodgers on Thursday.

The Mets lost starting catcher Travis d’Arnaud to season-ending Tommy John surgery last month, so Mesoraco gives them another option.

“We feel fortunate that we were able to add a veteran guy who’s good in the clubhouse who can play a couple of days a week,” said J.P. Ricciardi, a Mets special assistant. “We talked to Jay (Bruce) and Todd (Frazier) about him.”

The Reds included $5,788,978 as part of the trade, which made the deal come out nearly even fi nancially. Harvey is making $5,625,000 on a one-year contract. Mesoraco gets $13 million in the fi nal season on a four-year, $28 million deal.

TORONTO (AP) — All-Star closer Roberto Osuna of the Toronto Blue Jays was charged with assault Tuesday and put on administrative leave by Major League Baseball, preventing him from playing for at least a week.

Toronto Police declined to say whether it was domestic assault. Constable Jenifferjit Sidhu said the charge is for one count of assault but provided no further details.

Osuna, who is from Mexico, is scheduled to appear in court June 18.

Administrative leave is not considered disci-pline. Osuna goes on the restricted list and con-tinues to receive his $5.3 million salary, but is ineligible to play.

The Blue Jays recalled right-hander Jake Pet-ricka from Triple-A Buffalo to take Osuna’s spot on the roster.

The leave lasts seven days, giving the com-missioner’s offi ce time to investigate. The com-missioner’s offi ce can request an extension, and Osuna could challenge the leave before Mark Irvings, baseball’s independent arbitrator.

Commissioner Rob Manfred also has the option of suspending Osuna either without pay, or with pay pending the resolution of legal pro-ceedings — a penalty that later could be con-verted to without pay. Osuna could challenge any discipline before Irvings.

In a statement, MLB said it “takes all allega-tions of this nature very seriously” and is investi-gating. The Blue Jays released a statement saying they “fully support” MLB’s decision to place Osuna on leave.

“The type of conduct associated with this inci-dent is not refl ective of our values as an organi-zation,” the Blue Jays statement said, adding the team would not comment further because of the ongoing police investigation.

The 23-year-old Osuna is 0-0 with nine saves and a 2.93 ERA in 15 games this season. The righty was an All-Star last year when he was 3-4 with 39 saves and a 3.38 ERA.

In April, Osuna became the youngest player in big league history to record 100 career saves.

Last June, Osuna publicly acknowledged he

was dealing with anxiety, saying he was out of sorts mentally and feeling lost.

The Blue Jays had planned to give away 15,000 T-shirts featuring Osuna at Thursday’s game against Seattle. The team announced Tuesday it was changing the promotion and moving up a giveaway of shirts featuring infi elder Yangervis Solarte.

Manager John Gibbons said the team will mix and match at closer while Osuna is out, using John Axford, Tyler Clippard and Seung Hwan Oh and Ryan Tepera.

General manager Ross Atkins said it was dif-fi cult to learn the news of Osuna’s arrest.

“You can’t express it in words, the feeling that you have,” Atkins said. “It’s a physical feeling, an emotional feeling that you hate to get, you hate to have.”

Gibbons said he has a close connection with Osuna but made it clear he doesn’t condone assault.

“I love the kid, not because of what he’s done for us on the fi eld, but because of who he is and my relationship with him over the years,” Gib-bons said. “But really, in society in general, there’s got to be a zero tolerance policy. You’ve got to protect the vulnerable and those who can’t protect themselves.”

The Blue Jays were 19-16 going into Tuesday night’s game against Seattle.

MLB and the players’ union agreed on a domestic violence policy in 2015. It allows the league to discipline a player for an alleged domestic violence incident regardless of whether the charges result in a trial.

Pitcher Aroldis Chapman was the fi rst player disciplined under when the league suspended him for the fi rst 30 games of the 2016 season. Days later, shortstop Jose Reyes was suspended 51 games.

“What we’ve seen over the last couple of years is Major League Baseball has taken very strong stances on situations like this one,” Atkins said. “The punishments have been strong in cases of guilty and not guilty. We support Major League Baseball in that effort.”

TORONTO (AP) — James Paxton of the Seattle Mariners is pitching a no-hitter through eight innings against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Paxton has walked three and struck out six while throwing 92 pitches Tuesday night in Toronto. Paxton got some help from third baseman Kyle Seager for the fi nal out of the seventh. Seager made a full-length diving stop on speedy Kevin Pillar’s grounder down the

NEW YORK (AP) — The more Knicks management asked about David Fizdale, the more they heard how much players respect him.

It can’t hurt that one of them is LeBron James.

And while Knicks fans can dream of Fizdale’s relation-ship with James giving them a shot when the superstar enters free agency as expected, a team building from the bottom can’t focus on one player — even the best one in the game.

New York needed a coach that can bring out the best in everyone on the roster, and that’s what the Knicks believe they have in Fizdale.

The Knicks agreed to a deal with the former Memphis Griz-zlies coach last week and intro-duced him Tuesday at a news conference at Madison Square Garden.

“I think the big thing that we found — and that’s obvi-ously terrifi c that some of the game’s greats recognized David for who he is as a man and as a coach — but the players that are not that, just the guys 1 through 15, the reviews coming back on him were all very consistently similar,” general manager Scott Perry said.

“That he invested in us, that he’s going to develop you, he’s going to challenge you, he’s going to hold you accountable. And so I think that’s the impor-tant thing, that David has shown the ability to relate to a number of players across the board, not just the star players.”

Still, Fizdale’s relationship with James gives New Yorkers a slither of hope.

Though that hope is based more in fantasy than reality.

While James could become a free agent this summer, the Knicks would be unlikely to afford him and even less likely to impress him, given the long climb they face to contention. They have missed the playoffs fi ve straight seasons and will be without All-Star Kristaps Porzingis when the Fizdale era begins as he recovers from a torn left knee ligament.

Fizdale said he is only focused for now on who will be playing for him.

“I can’t really speak on free agency,” Fizdale said. “I just know that if we build this thing right together with the guys we have here, who I’m focused on here, people will want to come.”

Fizdale wanted to come, despite how quickly coaches get eaten up in New York.

Perry and team president Steve Mills interviewed 10 other candidates during their

search, and also spoke with players and executives from around the league to gain infor-mation about the men they were considering as the replacement for Jeff Hornacek.

One of them was Pat Riley, Fizdale’s boss in Miami when the Heat won two NBA titles while he was an assistant to Erik Spoelstra. Riley had kept in contact with Fizdale after he was fi red early last season in Memphis after clashing with star center Marc Gasol.

“No one was more happy when he got the news ... to see one of his guys be here, coming back and doing this and taking this challenge,” Fizdale said. “I’m sure right now he’s pretty proud.”

Even the failure with Gasol after the Grizzlies had gone to the playoffs in Fizdale’s fi rst season impressed the Knicks during their discussions. Fizdale didn’t hide from his share of the responsibility, acknowledging that maybe he pushed too hard on a team whose window to contend for a title he believed was shrinking.

“When someone owns an issue like that, we all hit adver-sity, but it’s how you deal with it and how you learn from it,” Mills said, “and that’s one of the things that really impressed us about David.”

Fizdale had spent eight sea-sons before going to Mem-phis in Miami, where the Heat reached four straight NBA Finals. Fizdale said his relation-ship with their stars developed by spending time with them, talking honestly about impor-tant things like family mat-ters, and of course by winning championships.

The last one will be diffi cult in New York.

He is the 11th Knicks coach since Jeff Van Gundy resigned in the 2001-02 season. Fizdale said he couldn’t pass up the chance to coach at Madison Square Garden, even though he was a candidate for jobs where there is more stability.

“The risk/reward thing was, I just said to hell with it,” Fiz-dale said. “It’s the Knicks, what are we talking about here?”

Mills said management will help Fizdale navigate the turbu-lence, joking that he’s seen not only brush fi res but forest fi res around the organization. Fiz-dale isn’t concerned, either by that or the expectations that still surround a team because of the success it had long ago.

“I think you’ve either got to go after it or you’re afraid, and I’ve never been afraid,” Fizdale said.

“An Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer – And A Drug-Free Workplace”

Department of Academic Affairs

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — The No. 1 ranking that Dustin Johnson has held for the last 15 months has never been more in jeopardy.

Four players behind him — Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm, Jordan Spieth and Justin Rose — have a mathematical chance this week at The Players Cham-pionship to replace Johnson atop the world ranking.

Spieth didn’t even know it.“Am I one of them?” he

asked Tuesday. “Sweet.”He didn’t know because

he didn’t particularly care. He reached No. 1 for the first time with his runner-up finish in the 2015 PGA Championship, and he returned to the top on three more occasions for a total of 26 weeks.

Spieth cares more about win-ning The Players Championship than any ramifications.

“It was never a goal of mine to hold it a certain length of time,” Spieth said. “It’s almost like a feat, like winning a major. But now it’s more like ... if I remained No. 2 and won majors, and was No. 1 for a long time and won six, I’d take the first one.”

Spieth represents one of many oddities about this tour-nament. The Stadium Course at the TPC Sawgrass can be feast or famine for just about anyone. Tiger Woods, the only player to win the tournament in March and May, also has had eight finishes outside the top 20. He has only five top 10s in his 16 appearances. Remember that dynamic finish from Rickie Fowler when he won in 2015? He has missed the cut in four of his eight starts.

Spieth, meanwhile, played for the first time in 2014 and didn’t make a bogey until the 59th hole of the tournament. He tied for fourth that year. His next three trips all ended on Friday.

“I don’t have a great history the last few years here,” Spieth said. “But I also have played the course really well before and had a chance to win.”

Thomas tied for third two years ago when he closed with a 65. This will be his fourth crack at trying to reach No. 1. He needed only 12th place alone last week at Quail Hollow (he tied for 21st). He’s so close to Johnson now that he can miss the cut and still get to No. 1.

As for Johnson? He might have it tough.

He might need to finish in the top 10 to avoid losing the ranking he first reached by winning at Riviera in February 2017. The only problem there is that Johnson, for all his ability, has never finished better than 12th at The Players.

“I don’t want to lose it,” Johnson said. “So if I want to keep it, I have to play well.”

This wouldn’t even be a

topic if not for a record-tying collapse in Shanghai and a lost opportunity at Pebble Beach. Johnson had a six-shot lead at the HSBC Champions, and even his peers figured the tournament was over, except that he missed on a few key approaches on the back nine, shot 77 and tied for second. Then, Ted Potter Jr. played the best round of his career and beat him at Pebble Beach.

Otherwise, Johnson’s year looks a lot better than it is. And in his mind, it hasn’t been all that bad.

“It feels like a better year,” he said. “Shanghai, it was a few iron shots that cost me. And then Pebble, Mexico, LA, Augusta, Hilton Head ... all of them I played plenty well enough to win. But I didn’t putt well enough. I putted well, but nothing went in the hole. I’ve never hit so many good putts I thought were going in that didn’t. And I’m not talking 30-footers. I’m talking 10-footers.

“My last 27 holes at Hilton Head, I was 2-for-15 inside 10 feet for birdie,” he said. “Even making 60 percent, I win the tournament.”

In his nine stroke-play events this year, Johnson has not fin-ished worse than a tie for 16th, which includes his eight-shot victory at Kapalua. The other event was Match Play, where he failed to advance out of his group.

What he strives for is being a dominant player, and that’s proving more difficult to do. The world ranking is a rea-sonable measure. These days, players don’t stay among the top without winning or having consistently high finishes, and Johnson is there for a reason. Only three other players — Tiger Woods, Greg Norman and Nick Faldo — have been at the top longer than his current stay.

“It’s hard to dominate because the talent level is so good,” Johnson said.

“Pretty much anyone in the field, if they play well that week, they’re going to win. To always be at the top, always competing for the win, is being pretty dominant. Just about every week, I feel like I’ve had a chance to win. The last couple of years have been pretty darn good. We’re going in the right direction.”

Spieth believes it takes more than that.

He looks at dominance over a five-year window. And no one has done that since Woods, who was No. 1 for five straight years on two occasions.

“I don’t think there’s been a dominant player,” Spieth said. “You get streaks for a year or two. You watch DJ and you say, ‘No one can beat that guy.’ And now he can lose No. 1.”

CLEVELAND (AP) — Rodney Hood’s playoff prob-lems now extend to off the court.

Hood, who has seen his role reduced during his fi rst postseason with Cleveland, will not be fi ned or suspended for refusing to enter Monday night’s Game 4 blowout win over the Toronto Raptors in the fourth quarter, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press.

Hood feels bad about the incident that happened with 7:38 left in the fourth quarter, and he expressed remorse on Tuesday to team offi cials about becoming a distraction, said the person who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.

The person said disciplinary actions against Hood “were

never a consideration.”The Athletic fi rst reported

that Hood had angered team-mates and others in the orga-nization by rejecting coach Tyronn Lue’s instruction to enter the game.

With Cleveland leading 110-80 and on its way to sweeping the series, the Cavs called timeout to replace super-star LeBron James. Lue told Hood to check in but he refused, and guard Jose Calderon peeled off his warmup and jogged to the scorer’s table. The AP observed at least one assistant coach shouting toward Hood.

Earlier in the game, rookie Cedi Osman came in with the second unit and played the minutes that had been going to Hood in Lue’s rotation.

The 25-year-old Hood is averaging 4.6 points in 17 minutes in the postseason. His playing time dropped in the second round — he began the playoffs against Indiana in the starting lineup — as he strug-gled with his shot and looked uncomfortable on the fl oor.

Hood scored just 2 points on 1-of-9 shooting in three appear-ances against the Raptors.

The Cavaliers acquired Hood at the Feb. 8 trade dead-line from Utah. A fi rst-round pick in the 2014 draft, he aver-aged 16.8 points with the Jazz, but the 6-foot-8 left-hander has never found his rhythm with Cleveland, which is back in the Eastern Conference fi nals for the fourth straight season.

Lue said he spoke with Hood at Sunday’s practice and that he understood his role.

“It’s been tough circum-stances as far as the fi rst round and playing now and getting spot minutes more than any-thing,” Lue said. “He could be better, he knows that. Just need him to be aggressive.”

Hood started Game 1 against Indiana, but after the Pacers beat the Cavs by 18, Lue changed his lineup. He swapped Hood with Kyle Korver and Cleveland regrouped, going 8-2 since the change.

Hood will be a restricted free agent this summer.

NEW YORK (AP) — Disney is seeking new frontiers. The media company launched its $5-a-month sports streaming

service, ESPN Plus, last month, and it signed a deal with Twitter this month to create Marvel, ABC and ESPN content on that service.

Meanwhile, Disney is trying to buy much of 21st Century Fox, including the Fox television network and the X-Men movie franchise.

The moves come as Disney seeks ways to extend beyond the traditional cable-bundle format as more people watch TV online. Sports network ESPN was once a jewel in Disney’s crown but subscriptions have been falling as people drop cable services.

But the company has found strength elsewhere, notably its movie studio and theme parks.

Disney’s franchises such as Marvel’s Avengers and “Star Wars” have been raking in money. “Avengers: Infi nity War” has grossed over $1 billion since it opened April 27.

In a statement, CEO Bob Iger said Disney was “very well posi-tioned for future growth” because of its ability to take advantage of such franchises across all businesses and “the unique value propo-sition” it’s creating with direct-to-consumer streaming services.

Net income rose 23 percent $2.94 billion, or $1.95 per share, from $2.39 billion, or $1.50 per share a year ago.

Excluding one-time items such as a benefi t from the U.S. tax overhaul, net income totaled $1.84 per share.

The fi scal second-quarter results surpassed Wall Street expec-tations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.68 per share.

Revenue rose 9 percent to $14.5 billion, from $13.3 billion a year ago. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $14.2 billion.

To prepare for the future, Disney launched a sports streaming service with video not available on the regular ESPN channels. This includes additional baseball and soccer games, and the entire “30 for 30” documentary series on demand.

The Walt Disney Co. is also working on an entertainment streaming service with classic and upcoming movies from the Disney studio, shows from Disney Channel, and the “Star Wars,” Marvel and Pixar movies.

That service will launch in late 2019 and will include movies leaving Netfl ix once its deal with Disney expires.

If the $52.4 billion Fox deal goes through, Disney could sup-plement the entertainment service with Fox properties — such as X-Men movies and National Geographic programming.

Disney is still awaiting regulatory approval, and published reports say Comcast is mulling a counter bid.

J.P. Morgan analyst Alexia Quadrani expects the service to break even by 2021 with about 13 million subscribers.

Until then, Quadrani said, Disney might lose some licensing fees and see spending increase to acquire content.

NEW YORK (AP) — Once again, the Boston Red Sox have reason to worry about David Price’s health.

The left-hander was scratched from his scheduled start Wednesday night against the rival New York Yankees and sent back to Boston for medical tests Tuesday after experiencing a tingling sensation in his pitching hand again.

“We have to make sure we know what’s going on,” man-ager Alex Cora said.

“We’ll have more probably after the game or (Wednesday).”

Cora said Price felt tin-gling in his hand Sunday while throwing a bullpen that was cut short, the same symptoms that forced him out of an April 11 game against the Yankees in Boston after allowing four runs in the first inning — the shortest start of his career.

Back then, the Red Sox fig-ured cold weather was a likely cause.

Price felt good playing catch the next day and didn’t miss a turn in the rotation.

He pitched pretty well in his next two outings, but struggled in the two after that and has lost three straight.

“I think everybody thought, everybody agreed that it was just something that happened that night,” Cora said.

“We talked about it and we thought that it wasn’t going to

happen again. So, it came up on Sunday. Now we’re taking that route. It was tested, but now it’s something else, you know? So we’ll see. We’ll see how it goes.”

Rick Porcello was moved up a day to pitch Wednesday at Yankee Stadium, with left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez going Thursday night. Both will be on regular rest because the Red Sox were off Monday.

Drew Pomeranz started Tuesday night against New York ace Luis Severino in the series opener. Boston entered with the best record in the majors at 25-9, one game better than the Yankees, who had won six straight and 15 of 16.

Price is 2-4 with a 5.11 ERA in seven starts during his third season with Boston.

The 2012 AL Cy Young Award winner signed a $217 million, seven-year contract with the Red Sox in December 2015 but has been slowed by injuries the past two years.

“Yesterday he came here and got treatment, threw a little bit and we decided it was better for him to go back to Boston, check it out and go from there,” Cora said Tuesday.

“I’m not saying that he will miss the next start or there’s a DL situation here, but obviously we want to make sure what’s going on.”

DEAR ABBY: My daughter recently informed me that she has met someone and the someone hap-pens to be a woman. My reaction was, of course, shock and anger, although I have kind of suspected over the years that she is a lesbian. She is 43 and was married for 10 years. She has two children and has been divorced for about 11 years now. She dated a few guys, but either had no luck with them or it didn’t last. I don’t know how to handle this because I’m against people being gay. I see it as unnatural and think they all have issues. I don’t treat gay people any diff erent from anyone else, but I do keep them at a distance. Now I don’t know how to proceed with our relationship. Please help. -- SHOCKED AND ANGRY MOM

DEAR S. AND A.: I’ll try. While you may be angry, because you have long suspected that your daughter might be a lesbian you cannot now claim to be shocked. One reason gay people have “issues,” as you put it, is because they have to endure opposition and nonacceptance from the family members they love. Your 43-year-old daughter has spent years not being who she really is -- possibly to please you -- and now has realized she must be her authentic self. If you want any relationship at all with her, apologize and tell her you overreacted. Tell her you love her and explain that you may need time to fully accept this. Wish her well and hope that she forgives you.

DEAR ABBY: I’m a 31-year-old mother of two -- a 3-year-old and a 2-month-old. My children have the same father. We co-parent, which has its ups and downs (more downs). We have been friends with benefi ts for fi ve years, longer than we were a true couple. Recently I found out he has intro-duced our kids to another woman he’s dating. I feel hurt because I have feelings for him that I can’t let go of. How do I keep from falling apart from the loss of the only relationship I know? I know it’s over, but I can’t help hoping we will get back together. -- HOPELESSLY IN LOVE

DEAR HOPELESSLY IN LOVE: Because you must interact with him regularly, it may not be easy. A step in the right direction would be to stop stowing your own emotional life in the deep freeze waiting for him to come back. Because it may take a dose of reality to regain control of your emotions, ask him to level with you about why your relationship didn’t lead to marriage. Something important was missing or it would have happened when you had his fi rst child. His response to your question should give you clarity.

DEAR ABBY: I’m a man in my mid-60s. Recently, I had to put my elderly cat, “Taff y,” to sleep. I loved her. When the vet asked if I would like some of her ashes, I didn’t want to take them home. Instead, I fi lled a jelly jar with her fur. (She had long hair and I had, for a year, been stuffi ng the fur I removed from her brush every night into a shoebox.) As a memorial to my beloved Taff y, I added some of her favorite kibble to the hair jar, and it now sits on her favorite window sill. You be the judge -- cute or creepy? -- CAT FANCIER IN FLORIDA

DEAR CAT FANCIER: It is neither. It is the way you have chosen to cope with a painful loss, and you shouldn’t be judged -- or judge yourself -- harshly for it. My condolences for your loss.

Happy Birthday: Use your creative imagination when helping others; you will come up with a plan that will bring you recognition, hope and a chance to take part in something special. Your numbers are 3, 16, 23, 27, 31, 38, 43.

ARIES (March 21-April 19): Sharing personal information is not in your best interest. Someone will use your weaknesses to his or her advantage. Don’t let frustration lead to anger when taking the high road will guide you to the place you are destined to be. ***

TAURUS (April 20-May 20): Participate in functions that allow you to display your attributes. Your input will draw the attention of someone in a prime position. Don’t let the changes going on around you cause insecurity. Do your best and believe in yourself. ****

GEMINI (May 21-June 20): Your confi dence will wane if you let someone use emotional tactics to bring you down. Fight back by concentrating on making personal gains as well as physical and intel-lectual improvements. Protect your passwords and your possessions. **

CANCER (June 21-July 22): Put more time and eff ort into something creative or unusual. A change of scenery or starting a hobby that has the potential to give you another source of income should be high on your to-do list. Nurture important relationships. *****

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): Use your intelligence when faced with opposition or competition. What you know will be the best way to overcome a situation that is spinning out of control. Avoid excessive behavior or anyone who is acting unreliable or indulgent. ***

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): A partnership will cause concern. Monitor interaction with someone you deal with regularly and take notes to ensure that you have reference to what’s being said as well as promises made. Protect your integrity and your reputation. ***

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): A need for change may disrupt your personal life or relationships. Consider how friends and family will feel before you put your plans in motion. Don’t let an emotional incident lead to a mistake or argument you’ll regret.***

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): Let your creative imagination run wild. Someone will impress you by off ering a unique suggestion regarding the way you live or the plans you are considering imple-menting into your everyday routine. Forming a partnership will encourage you to move forward. *****

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): You’ll be hankering for a change. Line up something that will chal-lenge you mentally and physically; you will feel satisfi ed by what you accomplish. Back away from anyone using emotional tactics to take advantage of you. **

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): An opportunity will spring up in an unusual manner. Don’t shy away from a chance to try something new. Remain in control and refuse to let anyone push you one way or another. Make your desires perfectly clear. ****

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): Enact some changes to the way you live. Comfort and convenience will make your life better. Steer clear of anyone trying to push you to overspend or wanting you to get involved in something that is dubious or excessive. ***

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): Emotions will be close to the surface. If you need help, ask for it. Refrain from making poor health choices or getting involved with someone you cannot trust. Stability should be your intent. Look for solid opportunities. ***
