Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind; it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees; it is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life.
The Virtues of Growing Older
Oil of Olay
Oil of Olay, a global business now, began in the home laboratory of chemist Graham Wulff in the early 1950s. Using his wife Dinah as his muse and research respondent, he began to truly understand what women really wanted: younger-looking and beautiful skin. It was with this understanding that he was able to perfect his formula. Finally Oil of Olay came out.
Background informationBackground information The Virtues of Growing Older
Grecian Formula
Grecian Formula, first introduced in 1961, is a popular men’s hair coloring product in the United States. It is available as a clear liquid, cream and foam. One of the product’s main features is that it works gradually, so the color change is not as noticeable as with dye products. Some of the drawbacks are that it doesn’t work well with facial hair, and it must be used daily for the first week or two, which some people find inconvenient.

Middle age
Middle age is usually considered to be from around 40 to 60. many people in their 30s do not want to become middle-aged. When you are 40, you are no longer considered to be young. Middle-aged people are often thought of by younger people as boring and old-fashioned in their attitudes and way of life.

AoA is the Federal focal point and advocate agency for older persons and their concerns. In this role, AoA works to heighten awareness among other Federal agencies, organizations, groups, and the public about the valuable contributions that older Americans make to the Nation and alerts them to the needs of vulnerable older people.
Through information and referral and outreach efforts at the community level, AoA seeks to educate older people and their caregivers about the benefits and services available to help them. For over 35 years, the AoA has provided home and community-based services to millions of older persons through the programs funded under the Older Americans Act, such as the home-delivered meals programs, nutrition services in congregate settings, transportation, adult day care, legal assistance, and health promotion programs, etc.
AoA’s National Family Caregiver Support Program provides a variety of services to help people who are caring for family members who are chronically ill or who have disabilities. AoA’s goal is to make sure that all older Americans and their families have the information and assistance they need to make informed decisions about their life choices now and in the future, choices that help people maintain and improve their health as they age.

The Virtues of Growing OlderMain idea of the text
The text is the author’s analysis of the distinct advantages of getting older. Meanwhile, the author focuses on the validity of American values on the aging problem through citing her parents’ example to back her view.
The Virtues of Growing OlderText Explanations
Being young is doubtlessly desirable, especially in a youth-oriented country like America where youth is worshipped. However, this piece of writing is an attempt to subvert the “traditional” view and convince the reader that growing older is not necessarily that dreadful.
General analysis of the text
The Virtues of Growing Older

I think that a successful old age is easiest for those who have strong impersonal interests leading to suitable activities. It is in these activities that long experience is really fruitful, and that the wisdom born of experience can be used without becoming a burden. It is no use telling grown-up children not t make mistakes, both because they will not believe you, and because mistakes are an essential part of education. But if you are one of those who are incapable of impersonal interests, you may find that your life will be empty unless you concern yourself with your children and grandchildren. In that cast you must realize that while you can still help them in material ways, you must not expect that they will enjoy your company.

As far as my eyes can see在我的视线所及There are shadows surrounding me阴影在我四周密无缝隙And to those I leave behind覆盖我遗留的痕迹I want you all to know我要你知道You’ve always shared my darkest hours你一直分享着我最阴暗的记忆I’ll miss you when I go我会思念你,当我离去And ohOhWhen I’m old and wise智者老矣
Heavy words that tossed and blew me沉重的话语折磨我的心绪Like autumn winds will blow right through me就像秋风吹透我的身体And someday某一天In the mists of time在这时间的雾翳When they ask you if you knew me当他们问你是否认识我Remember that you were a friend of mine不要忘记我们曾经的友谊As the final curtain falls before my eyes当最后的幕布垂落我的眼底Oh when I’m old and wiseOh 智者老矣
