OverviewLil’s Guppies Scuba School is a brand new school primarily for children. The school offers a fun and safe environment while providing young children opportunities to learn how to swim and scuba dive.

Additionally, they teach proper techniques about water safety for children to become strong swimmers and at the same time have a great adventure.

The Lil’ Guppies Scuba School wanted a logo design to reflect its brand identity and to appeal to both children and parents/ guardians. They also wanted a design solution that could communicate their brand’s core vision which is to provide children a fun and safe environment.

The colors for Lil’ Guppies logo were carefully selected and can be easily reproduced. The red, yellow and blue hues were chosen because they are the three primary colors on the color wheel and when they are used as a color palette they impart a childlike appearance.

The font used was also carefully chosen. For the name Lil’ Guppies, “Poplar Std Black” was used. It is a Sans Serif font with heavy weight and condensed width. Its strokes vary depending on the letter used and it has slightly “squared” curves. This font was chosen because it is not too juvenile nor too serious. It is casual and at the same time readable. For the words Scuba School the font “Segoe UI” was used. This font is not as casual as the one used for the name of the school and not as heavy. “Segoe UI” fits nicely below the wave, it is light, readable, and imparts the feeling of trust.

The final design solution fulfills the client’s needs and at the same time reflects the brand because it is an eye-catching design, it appeals to children and their parents/ guardians, and it uses easy visual identifiers (such as water, sun, snorkel, and a child) in a fun, sporty and friendly way. Additionally, the logo can be scalable and used on a wide variety of media formats and stationery items.

The stationery items function as a unit because all designs formats (logo, letterhead, business card, and deliverables) are synced and consistent with the brand identity.
