Urban Coffee’s whole life revolves around creating a unique coffee experience for the customer, it goes without saying that their coffee is the best this side of the moon. They have created a “wine tasting for coffee” experience that’s not available anywhere else on the high street or online. But that’s not enough; they also want the customer to be at the centre of everything they do. So, unhappy with the quality of coffee on the average high street, they decided that the only way to get a decent cup was to start their own place. The Urban Coffee Company was born.

For the Urban Coffee Co. logo I wanted to redesign it completely with a more fun and interesting concept. I decided to base the whole design around a traffic sign seen quite often in urban environments and that gave the logo a city feel and look. I then placed the logo type inside of a coffee been sillouette which added a very artistic feel to the logo. When combined, the street sign and logo give off an urban look with an artsy feel and I believe that to be the true meaning behind the Urban Coffee Company.

Birch Beer Records was founded in the summer of 2009 by singer-songwriters Dan Cloutier and Kim Jennings. Both have roamed the twisted doors of the local music scene for years, and both know the need for an organization to step in and help get the important music to the masses. They both knew more should be done, and BBR was formed. Their vision is to find the best local talent and help them get the audience they deserve, through distribution, marketing, and promotion. They also just happen to really like Birch Beer.

The old Birch Beer Records logo was quirky and fun, but contained too many elements and seemed like a bit much for a logo. I decided to completely redesign the logo by combining a beer bottle cap and a classic viynl record bringing together the whole concept of the record company. The center of the viynl is filled with a golden, bubbly beer texture and pours out onto the black record. I chose a handwritten type to keep the indie look and feel to pull together the whole logo.

The Pulse Running and Fitness shop was created back in 2003 by avid runner Holly Finch. She has been running for 15+ years. She has completed 11 marathons, many 1/2 marathons, duathlons, 10k’s and 5k’s over the years, including Robie creek 10 times. Running is her life and she wanted to bring that life to the community by opening up her own shop. The Pulse thrives to bring excellent customer service along with top of the line running and fitness equipment to customers. They provide running tests that can tell customers the perfect products they should purchase to further and better their whole running experienc.

The old Pulse logo was verysimple, without many fun concepts. I decided to bring life to this logo by starting from scratch and creating a text logo with a “pulse” line creating the letter “L” in the text. I combined this with the faint sillouette of a stopwatch to bring together the whole feel of an active running shop. The gradient on the pulse line helps bring out the “L” shape very well and ties together the whole concept.
