perform “post-mortem” analysis. Shipments are examined after arriving to their final destination. At this point, damage can only be identified, not prevented.

The increasing volume of controlled shipments due to stricter regulations, creates a demand for damage prevention monitoring services.

Especially in the Life Science and Food industries. Both in air and ground transportation.

What is Logitor? A Global shipment monitoring system, based on Bluetooth and cellular

communications. composed of the following modules:

– Logitor Recording Device• Measures and records the required parameters.• Has Bluetooth capability.

– Logitor Mobile Application• Setting device configuration and reading/relaying data.• Installed on cellular-phones / PDAs (works with most simple cellular phones).

– Data Collection & Distribution Servers.– Web Interface.

How does it work?


The Logitor Recording Device (LRD) Components:

– Microcontroller– Bluetooth chip– RAM– Sensors (currently temperature & humidity)

Responsible for measuring and recording the required parameters. Identifies exceptions. Communicates with authorized cellular phones via Bluetooth. Uses security schemes for data protection and secure communication. Does not transmit unless received a specific request.

The Logitor Mobile Application

Based on JAVA ME– CLDC 1.1, MIDP 2.0 (about 65% of cellular phones)

Identifies LRDs in the area. Used for reading/relaying data from the LRD, as well as device configuration

(authorization dependent). Can be installed on simple, personal cellular phones / PDAs, as well as more

advanced phones. Can use packet connection to transmit data, or just send SMS updates.

The Logitor Data Collection & Distribution Servers Hold the database of the recordings.

– Currently MySQL based. Data is uploaded to the servers using internet connection.

– PHP engine.– Simple, web based protocol.– Uses security schemes to verify authenticity of the data source

(user/password over ssl) Optional query based distribution of data/customized reports.

Web Interface Allows easy viewing of the data. Uses authentication schemes for data protection.

– User/Password over SSL Can be adjusted for additional parameters.

Security Logitor was designed with security in mind

– Defending privacy and Intellectual property– Obstructing business espionage or even deliberate sabotage.

Communication between LRD and cellular device is protected– Requires authentication (challenge/response protocol)– Includes authorization hirarchy (relay/read/config/config-security)– Data can be encrypted (currently using AES/rijndael)– Data can be MAC-ed & timestamped
