These refugees can be transported through Constantin-» op le provided th a t th e i r admission to Greece i s graaanteed and th a t they are no t allowed to g e t o ff the ship but proceed to Greece on th e same steamers on which they embarked

f S their feeding, there would probably be little difficulty In securing the consent of the Greek Government to offeot their transfer from Constantinople to Greece.
r believe that I Informed you at the time that the Hear HaBt Relief, which h. ci assumed responsibility for the feeding of thele refu^eee in Constantinople, intimated that it had done so merely as an emergency measure pending : rrangementa for the evacuation ofthe refugees.
The Near East Relief now informs ue that It is unwilling t o ooSSS the feeding of these refugee unlesn Immediate arrangements are made for their transfer to Qreece.
On the other hand if suoh a transfer oould be effeoted In the near future, the "’ear Rest Relief promised us to undertake responsibility for the further feeding o. the refugees until suoh time as measures oould be taken for their settlement under the proposed loan scheme.
Moreover,w« have succeeded in Interesting the "All British Appeal” »nd the "Save the Children Fund Ja fare of those refugees and these two organisations heV® also promised to àoslst In the foedlng of the refugees after they have been transferred to Greece, The iirltlsh organisations Tel So fa? as to inti .ate th> t they ««Id be Prepared to guarrntoe the feeding for a full year of 4000 of these refu gees after their irrival In Groeoe.

dependents in Constantinople who, up to the preoa.it time,
have been malntnlhed in employment by the British .my,
but 'vhoae employment will oei-ae with the evaluation of
the British foroee sj^Constnntinople, The Britlah autho
rities consider that it will be dangerous for these refu
gees to remain in Gonatuntlnople efter the departure of
the British foroea nd hare tsked ub to secure permission
from the Greek Qovemmotot for their evrourtion to Greek
territory.
If duoh permission oould be obtained we have reason to
believe thut the British authorities will provide for the
transport of the refugees In question to Dcdagatoh or Sa
lonika. ft111 you very kindly take up this matter with the
appropriate authorities 1 Athens at your earliest conve
nience and let me know when arrangements can be made for the
reception of these refugees,
