Shots 2

Page 2: Location shots 2

Having already scouted rural locations for both solo appearances of our protagonist's and the 'first kiss' scene, we decided to find sites for general shots depicting the relationship between Marnie and Rowan; this location will also be used for the climatic party scene. At first we planned for Rowan to live in a flat, however, we have now decided for this character to be living at home; his background will be a lack of love and care from his parents, meaning he can easily relate to Marnie's own issues. Whilst the stock characters, Seb and Violet, were originally meant to appear as flat mates to Rowan, they will now only be enrolled as friends. Marnie and Rowan's relationship will revolve mainly around his room, used as each others haven.

1. Within this shot, you can see an area of the room including some hung up clothing, a TV and a bed. The general area is a little disorganized, reflecting the traits of the character and the stereotypical representation of a teenage male being a little messy. The backpack on the bed shows Rowan to be a student, conventional of a protagonist within a 'coming of age' film. The TV is dated, depicting Rowans lack of money, perhaps due to the absence of his parents or his own financial position. Within 'coming of age' films, it is conventional to include the latest technology in order to appeal to the young, current audience; because of this, we are subverting genre conventions.

2. This close angle captures the entrance to the loft room and a single, unmade bed. The bed could represent the stereotypical social lifestyle of a teenage male, portraying him to be prepared for friends 'crashing' overnight. The pool table beside the bed may be reflective of the gaming lifestyle led by the younger generation; it could also connote the risk attitude of teenagers/young adults. The notice board above the bed holds a variety of sentimental pictures and cards, representative of our sub-genre of absent families; Rowan is hanging onto memories. We felt that the bed would also be useful in linking with the first couple of nights in which Marnie stays with Rowan, emphasizing the transition of their relationship.

3. This shot shows a messy, dishevelled bed, again, linking to the stereotypical untidiness of a teenager/young adult. The double bed is also representative of the age group; during the transition into adulthood and the need for further space, a single bed is replaced by a larger one. The poster of a car again links to the stereotypical interests of a teenage male like Rowan; its also links to new technology, conventional to the ‘coming of age’ genre. The bed will play a key role within the film, as we intend to show loving shots of the couple within it.
