IMaGOSInternational Master in Garden and Open-Space design

COURSE AIMS

The Master’s programme is designed to provide partic-ipants with the cultural, technical and methodological tools necessary for the design of open spaces in an urban context, both public and private, from an intermediate to a small scale of analysis. Of particular concern will be the design of contemporary gardens, conceived as places of experimentation and research for innovative solutions: in the areas of eco-design planting, cultivation and main-tenance techniques, water-sensitive devices, materials used and a renewed aesthetic and figurative vocabulary. The distinctive feature of IMaGOS is its practice-oriented training: the garden is considered as a living practice field where students can explore planting techniques, use of dif-ferent materials, shaping the terrain, management guide-lines, identifying the right materials for open spaces, all of this under the able guidance of international teachers and/

or professionals, experts in their individual disciplines. Stu-dents will also have the opportunity to work on urban areas made available by the Municipality of Bergamo.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The Programme will work towards the formation of pro-fessionals with technical competence, with the ability to operate in an international context, with expertise in the planning of landscape and open spaces and in the man-agement of green work sites with particuar reference to the areas of intermediate- and small-scale landscape and gardens. The trained professional will thus be able to fill the role of a technical expert with the ability to under-stand, communicate and work in a landscape of interme-diate scale. A professional formation of this kind is not presented anywhere in Italy as of now.

GRADUATION

Examinations will be held at the conclusion of each mod-ule. At the conclusion of the Master’s Programme, each student will present an individually-prepared thesis, which he/she will discuss with the Selection Board.
