Dear John, My time is coming near. I’m guessing January 28, 1596 so that’s why I am sending you this now. We have a special friendship. We have had the most fun, dangerous, and eventful journeys a man could ask for. When we escaped Spain I felt invincible with you at my side. I wanted you to know how much you meant to me as a friend. I wouldn’t have gotten through life to 55 years old without you. Cousins? How about brothers.

They better have boats in heaven because Sir Francis Drake, an England native, was the greatest sailor in the world and he’s heading there. He has traveled the world and seen many wonders, experienced tragedy and happiness and his time has come. “I can’t wait to see him there,” said cousin and dear friend John Hawkins.
