How does the writer use language to present young people?

“We are running a system that works for the yobs, we want a system that works for decent people.”

“Birkenhead has become the Beirut of the North” says Frank Field as he declare war on the yob culture that he says is destroying the town.

One of the most sever happened when a gang of up to 30 youths viciously assaulted a Birkenhead Dad as he tried to stop them vandalising cars

Families on the Tranmere and Rock Ferrry Boundary have flooded the authorities with complaints about gangs terrorising their streets- which has seen car windows and wing mirrors smashed, as well as eggs thrown at homes.

How does this newspaper use language to present teenagers?

• Success Criteria• I have made a clear point about

how teenagers are presented in the newspaper article.

• I have selected appropriate quotations to reinforce my point

• I have correctly identified of language techniques (adjectives, similes, metaphors etc)

• I have explained the effects of these techniques

• This newspaper depicts teenagers as uncontrollable thugs. This is evident in the claim that the council have been “flooded with complaints about gangs terrorising the streets.” The use of the metaphor “flooded” suggests that the council cannot cope with the amount of complaints it is receiving, whilst the verb “terrorising” paints a picture of a town that is being torn apart by the teenagers .
