The London Nautical School was founded as a direct result of the sinking of RMSTitanic in 1912. Several nautical training schools were introduced to improveseamanship; The London Nautical School is the only one of those training schoolsthat remains with a nautical and maritime ethos.

Our original location was in Rotherhithe as an annex of the Rotherhithe New RoadSchool in 1915. Access to Surrey Docks enabled the school to provide nauticaltraining classes for all students, leading to future careers in the Merchant Navy, theUK’s commercial shipping industry.

In 1937 the school gained its own site in Silwood Street, Surrey Quays, and becameknown as The London Nautical School.

In 1965 we moved to Broadwall, Waterloo, and then into our current building onStamford Street, Blackfriars, which was a former Print works.

We became a Foundation School in 1999 and in 2003 were granted Sport’s CollegeStatus enabling us to develop our sporting and nautical curriculums.
