LITURGY CORNERToday’s Gospel is like aflashback. It takes us back to ascene right before Jesus’ arrestand crucifixion. The scene is theLast Supper. Jesus is talking toHis disciples about His Fatherand having faith in His Fatherand in Him. One of the reasons

that the Church in Her wisdom, has us read this Gospel at thistime - a month after Easter - is to help us focus on ourrelationship with the Risen Christ. The Resurrection was anincredible event and is the cornerstone of our faith. In fact, theSecond Reading this weekend, tells us about the “cornerstone, chosen and precious, and whoever believes in it shall hot beput to shame” (1 Peter 2:6). But OUR relationship with theRisen Jesus ultimately is what our faith is all about. Jesus saysthat He is the Way and the Truth and the Life. He shows usthe Way of faith. He is the Light of love and peace for us, nomatter how dark and frightening our lives might become. Thisweek take a minute or two to figure out how WE can increaseour faith! Have a blessed week! Lisa

FAITH AT HOMEDuring the Easter season, the Gospelsmove from intimate and personalencounters with Jesus to an outward-looking focus. The outward focus oftoday’s Gospel is the universal challengethat we are to be the

way, truth and life for others, following in the footsteps ofJesus. Adults: In what ways does my personal relationshipwith Jesus, thrust me into a role of service? Children: Howwould I describe Jesus? A Family Perspective: Membersof the same family often bear close resemblances to oneanother. Sometimes physical resemblances are sharedwithin a family, but often the similarities are behavioralcharacteristics and mannerisms. We hear thisobservation affirmed through a number of commonphrases: “He's a chip off the old block” or “She's hermother's daughter.” Today's Gospel points to a mysteryof faith that might be examined in light of these familialrelationships. In Jesus we see and know the Father.Likewise, the Father is known through the life and workof the Son, Jesus. Talk together as a family aboutwhether people outside of your family recognizecommon traits of your family. Are there physicalresemblances that people recognize and so know eachindividual as a member of your family? Are theremannerisms that are shared by members of your family? What are some common interests and work that peoplemight associate with your family? May you and yourfamily continue to have a wonderful and blessed EasterSeason! Lisa

HOLY HEALTH NEWSThe heart, miraculously, is designed to neverskip a beat for over, in some cases, 100years. This is a truly remarkable gift fromGod. Taking care of your heart doesn't needto take a lot of time or effort. Here are a fewquick actions you can take with big benefitsto protect your heart. 1. Maintain a healthydiet-- limiting saturated fats and rich

desserts. Include healthy unsaturated fats in the diet, includingNUTS. Eating just 5 oz of nuts per week, eg. Walnuts oralmonds, is linked to decreased cardiovascular disease. Goodfor you and delicious, too!! 2. Sneak a burst of activity-- Findinga simple approach to moving more and getting more exercisekeeps you heart healthy. Ideally you should exercise 30 minutesper day 5 times weekly. Your heart also benefits from shortbursts of activity, say 10 to 15 minutes at a stretch, with the goalof accumulating 150 minutes per week. 3. Go to bed a littleearlier --Without enough sleep your risk for heart disease andheart attack increase. 4. Maintain a healthy weight-- extrapounds put an extra load on your heart and can force it to workinefficiently. This is a major risk factor for heart disease. 5. Makea call-- Schedule a checkup if you are overdue so that you andyour physician can stay up to date on your heart health, andmake a plan to protect your heart. Have your blood pressurechecked frequently, too, if possible. See you at our next bloodpressure clinic next weekend. To schedule a no-chargeconfidential appointment with our pharmacist for a Brown BagReview, call the Hanover Township Health Dept. at (973) 515-6667. With “heartfelt” wishes from your OLM Health Ministry!!
