Living with Intent is a chronicle of Mallika Chopra’s search to find more meaning, joy and balance in life. She hopes that be

telling her story, she can inspire others with her own successes (and failures) as well as share some of the wisdom she has gathered from friends, experts and family along the way…people like her dad, Deepak, as well as Eckhart Tolle, Marianne Williamson, Arianna Huffington, Andrew Weil and Dan Siegel.

With raw honesty and heart, Mallika draws a practical road map for how we can all move from thought to action to outcome. Each chapter is devoted to one step on her journey and another piece of her INTENT action plan: Incubate, Notice, Trust, Express, Nurture and Take Action.

Her insights and advice help us all come closer to fully living the lives we truly intend.

The book on this issue’s cover, Living with Intent, is a wonderful, easy read lled with practical, workable wisdom and

practices that can fold into any busy person’s lifestyle. So many of the self-help books of today are powerful in their o erings, but are o en complicated and challenging to

work with. eir suggestions and programs are di cult to work into busy lives. I loved Living with Intent most especially because the author is so incredibly honest and open about her own process. I felt I knew her, as well as related to her journey—especially by the book’s end. is lovely work would make a great gi item for those you love who are seeking more meaning, joy and balance in their lives.

is November/December issue of 2015 is also lled with wonderful articles and gi suggestions for the holidays. For readers who yearn to give gi s with meaning and purpose, some of the suggested items in this issue may be just what you are looking for. In my experience, thoughtful gi s are long remembered and deeply appreciated. oughtful gi s are also more meaningful for the givers.

As we close this amazing year of 2015, let us remember most—that which encouraged us, upli ed us and made our hearts sing. May we be appreciative of every good thing that entered our lives and open our eyes to the blessings, even in the midst of our sorrows. May we integrate everything into our beings for good and help others do the same.

May your holiday season be truly magical,

Micro needling is one of the newest, most e ective, af-fordable procedures for: improving ne lines, tight-ening skin, improving tone, promoting collagen and

elastin production, and for reducing the appearance of acne scarring, pigmentation and stretch marks. It is mostly used on the face but can be utilized on other parts of the body. e micro needling procedure is performed with a single use, ster-ile, disposable ne needle tip along with collagen-stimulating serum. Watch the 4 minute CBS News video featuring this procedure at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTxE06HNPQE or the two minute ABC News video featuring micro needling on Good Morning America at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBJEOeSr2Fo

A sterile needle-tip containing micro-needles is attached to the end of the pen. While most clinics use tips that have 11 or 12 micro-needles, we use a 36 needle tip for better results. e depth of the needles is determined by the severity of the skin condition. Penetration of the skin surface increases the production of collagen, making the skin more elastic and toned. e micro-channels created by the needles allow the serums we

use during treatment to be absorbed more e ectively, enhancing treatment results. Many clinical studies have proven that skin Micro Needling is at least as e ective as other procedures including laser resurfacing, chemical peels or dermabrasion.

Lasers use a focused light to create heat that vaporizes top layers of skin, stimulates collagen and elastin; tightening the skin and improving skin tone and wrinkles. Lasers work well but may lead to complications when used on darker skin. With Micro Needling, there is no heat or burning, making the treatment safer and more comfortable with a much shorter recovery time. Micro Needling thickens the dermis without damaging or removing the epidermis. e procedure gives a “prickly” sensation that feels almost like sand paper being rubbed against the skin, but is not painful. Most people experience redness or swelling for 4-48 hours which may create a sensation similar to a mild sunburn.

Many patients notice improvement in the way their skin looks in just a day or two. e improvement will become more evident within a few days and continue to improve for a few weeks. For most patients, we recommend 2-3 treatments, 4 to 5 weeks apart. For scar and stretch mark reduction, an average of 3 to 6 treatments, 6 weeks apart are recommended.

U.S. Health Officials Squelched a FDA Proposal that would have Curbed Dentists’ Use of Mercury By Greg Gordon (www.mcclatchydc.com)

Bill Wolfe D.D.S.

Senior U.S. health o cials have squelched a Food and Drug Administration proposal that for the rst time would have curbed dentists’ use of mercury—one of

the planet’s nastiest toxins because it attacks the central nervous system—in treating Americans’ decayed teeth. “ e FDA proposal” (http://media.mcclatchydc.com/static/graphics/20150727-Mercury/FDA-SILVERFILLINGS-WARNING.pdf), approved by top FDA o cials in late 2011 and kept secret since, would have told dentists they should not use mercury llings in cavities in pregnant women, nursing moms, children under 6 and people with mercury allergies, kidney diseases or neurological problems. It also urged dentists to avoid using llings that contain mercury compounds in any patient, where possible. e FDA has defended the safety of mercury llings since the agency’s inception in 1930 and especially during an ongoing, 23-year legal battle with consumer groups. Consumer lawyers are pressing the government to ban the compounds, as Denmark, Norway and Sweden have done.

e “safety communication” was dra ed in response to citizens’ petitions and an FDA advisory panel of outside experts, several of whose members expressed concerns in 2010 that the agency had not gone far enough to protect vulnerable groups. e rst public hint that the agency might shi its position came during a town hall meeting in September 2011 in San Francisco, where Je rey Shuren, director of the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health, heard from several dental patients. ey described recovering from severe health problems a er having their mercury llings removed. Shuren told them he expected the agency to issue a new policy by year’s end. Instead, sometime later, the Department of Health and Human Services quietly killed the FDA’s communication. e citizen groups sued in federal court last year to compel the agency to respond to their petitions. Je Ventura, a spokesman for both the Health and Human Services Department and the FDA stated that the “FDA will continue to evaluate the safety of dental amalgams and will take any further actions that are warranted”. Le unexplained are a myriad of questions, including who made the decision, why was it made and whether any special interest group directly in uenced the government to curb its warning.

An American Dental Association survey in 2009 indicated 54 percent of U.S. dentists were still using mercury llings, a durable, easy-to-use remedy for over 160 years. Known as “amalgam”, the dental compound consists of about half mercury blended with metal alloys including silver and are usually presented to patients as “silver llings”. While the mercury is described as encapsulated, the llings still release low levels of mercury vapor that patients inhale

on a continual basis—the more llings, the more vapor. Chewing or vigorous brushing can increase the vapor release. However, the number of dentists abandoning those products has risen steadily over the last 20 years as concerns about the toxin’s e ects have mounted and alternatives have improved. e llings are still used in taxpayer-funded Medicaid and Medicare programs for the poor and the elderly, in the military, in prisons, on Indian reservations and by doctors serving price-sensitive patients.

Mercury is o en described as insidious. Once in people’s lungs, it moves to the bloodstream and can accumulate in the kidneys, liver and brain, where it damages the central nervous system. It has been linked to an array of health problems, including memory loss, nerve damage, autoimmune diseases, vision problems, kidney failure, depression, autism and foggy thinking. Recent research suggests it may contribute to Alzheimer’s disease. It also can be lethal. In 2013, the United States was the rst of 140 nations to sign a treaty, the Minamata Convention on Mercury, calling on governments to halt emissions and disposal of products containing the toxin. e treaty is named for a disaster in the 1950s, when mercury-laden wastewater from a chemical plant contaminated sh in Japan’s Minamata Bay and then poisoned people who consumed the sh, claiming over 1,700 lives. 140 nations signed the treaty to phase out mercury but the treaty doesn’t impose deadlines.

Since the FDA’s proposed communication was rejected, the agency has continued to defend the safety of mercury llings, except in people with mercury allergies. Art Caplan, director of the Division of Medical Ethics at New York University Medical School said he nds the secrecy about the proposed warnings troubling. While it’s reasonable to conduct cost-bene ts analyses, “the government should share what it knows. It should not be hiding, it should not be yielding to lobbying of any sort.” Instead, the 157,000-member American Dental Association’s, political action committee donated nearly $2.5 million to candidates for Congress in the two-year cycle ending Dec. 31, 2014.

340 METRIC TONS OF MERCURY ARE IMPLANTED IN TEETH EVERY YEAR WORLDWIDE, ACCORD-ING TO A 2013 REPORT OF UNITED NATIONS ENVIRONMENT PROGRAM.

James Turner, who is among consumer lawyers battling the agency, said the “core argument is that the public should be told about the risks.” Consumer lawyers and some scientists believe the toll from the pervasive e ects of mercury in dentistry already may be impairing millions of

people who have yet to connect serious health problems to their dental work. James Love, an Oklahoma lawyer who in 2009 led one of three citizen petitions contending the agency should have acted more forcefully in a rule issued that year covering mercury llings, took a harsher view. “If you inject cost-bene t analysis into the equation,” he said, “then we’re going to justify legally poisoning people.”

THE FDA CONTINUES TO LEAVE THE DECISION ABOUT DENTAL TREATMENT RIGHT WHERE IT NEEDS TO BE—BETWEEN THE DENTIST AND THE PATIENT.

Maxine Feinberg, president, American Dental Association

Last January 27, the FDA nally responded to the citizen petitions, hours before a federal judge’s deadline to do so. e agency denied the petitions and stuck by the 2009 rule that it classi ed mercury llings as a Class II medical device, rather than among the riskiest devices, in Class III, as consumer lawyers wanted. A Class III designation would have forced manufacturers to provide scienti c evidence of their products’ safety before marketing them. In letters to the petitioners, Associate FDA Commissioner Leslie Kux presented a position decidedly di erent from the ominous warnings dra ed in 2011 by the very same agency. e evidence to date indicates, she wrote, that “exposures to mercury vapor from dental amalgam are not associated with adverse health e ects.”

Dr. Wolfe’s comment: In the early 80’s, I purchased an industrial mercury vapor detector and began a study to determine how much mercury vapor was coming out of my patient’s “silver” amalgam llings. I tested hundreds of teeth and discovered that there was no correlation with the size and age of the lling and the amount of mercury vapor registered. In 1986, I wrote a letter to OSHA and noti ed them of the high mercury vapor readings I was obtaining from amalgam llings and asked the question.

“Is there any di erence between the mercury I am detecting in the mouth (intra-oral) and the mercury outside the mouth (extra-oral), which is pronounced as an an environmental poison?” eir answer was:

“Although there would be no di erence between mercury vapor measured inside the mouth and outside the mouth, the exposure potential of intra-oral mercury would be much greater than that of extra-oral mercury vapor, as mercury is toxic through the routes of absorption and ingestion as well as by inhalation.” Gilbert Saulter, Regional Administrator, OSHA. Intravenous Vitamin C and Your Best Brain Health By Pamela Costello, MD, PhD, Holistic Neurosurgeon, Neuroscientist

W hat is Intravenous (IV) Vitamin C and how does it bene t your brain, nervous system, and general health?

Vitamin C (also called L-ascorbic acid or ascorbate) is found in abundance in vegetables and fruits. A water-soluble Vitamin and powerful antioxidant, it helps the body form and maintain connective tissue, including bones, blood vessels, and skin. Additionally, it acts as a potent, natural antiviral and antibacterial agent, provides enhanced immune support, improves brain neurotransmitter function, and acts as a chelating agent of neurotoxins. Furthermore, Vitamin C helps to repair and regenerate tissues, protect against heart disease, aide in the absorption of iron, prevent scurvy, and decrease total and LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and triglycerides and, when used intravenously, acts as a global detoxi cant. As a water soluble Vitamin, we readily excrete any excess that we can’t use, therefore making it an extremely safe supplement.

Supplemental Vitamin C is one of the best known antioxidants. It can lessen the duration and symptoms of a common cold, help delay or prevent cataracts, and support healthy immune function. In addition, research indicates that Vitamin C may help protect against a variety of cancers by combating free radicals, and helping neutralize the e ects of nitrites (preservatives that may raise the risk of certain forms of cancer). High-dose Vitamin C has been studied as a treatment for patients with cancer since the 1970s. Scottish Surgeon Ewan Cameron worked with Nobel Prize-winning chemist Linus Pauling to study the bene ts of Vitamin C therapy in clinical

trials of cancer patients in the late 1970s and early 1980’s with very positive results.

Vitamin C is an essential nutrient that humans must get from food or dietary supplements, since it cannot be made by the body. It is an antioxidant that helps prevent oxidative stress and works with enzymes to play a key role in making collagen.

Symptoms of Vitamin C de ciency include fatigue, muscle weakness, joint and muscle aches, lethargy, easy bruising, bleeding gums, and skin rashes. Historically, lack of Vitamin C was well recognized as a cause of scurvy in sailors who did not survive long sea voyages until sustainable sources of Vitamin C were secured. Intravenous Vitamin C immediately relieves patients’ scurvy symptoms. Patients given IV Vitamin C during and a er surgery clear anesthesia out of their system much more quickly, they don’t need as much pain medicine, and their surgical wounds heal more rapidly, with a greatly reduced risk of infection.

High-dose Vitamin C may be given by intravenous (IV) infusion (through a vein into the bloodstream) or orally (taken by mouth). When taken by intravenous infusion, Vitamin C reaches much higher levels in the blood than when the same amount is taken by mouth. Vitamin C is an extremely safe supplement, as it is a water soluble Vitamin, and we readily excrete any excess that we can’t use. Concerns that Vitamin C causes kidney stones have been completely disproven. ere have been several studies by urologists that have shown that there is no issue with high-dose Vitamin C. When Vitamin C is

given intravenously, it recreates the liver’s ability to synthesize tremendous amounts of Vitamin C, as seen in the majority of animals when ill or under physical stress.

My personal clinical experience with Vitamin C is quite extensive. It began with my early years in graduate education, when I discovered the extraordinary work of Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling. I subsequently committed myself to using Vitamin C intravenously with all of my hospitalized and surgical patients, primarily as a chelator (detoxi er) of anesthetic agents (which are necessarily given to patients with neurosurgical emergencies), as well as for their general immune support and assistance in managing infectious issues, and to provide a tremendous overall detoxi cation of their brains, nervous systems, and bodies.

My overwhelming experience with IV Vitamin C demonstrated that it is extraordinarily safe at clearing anesthesia post-operatively, but also at improving the general health of my patients, including substantially decreasing their requirement for pain and other palliative medications, and providing excellent wound healing. I subsequently reduced my incidence of operative infections to almost zero with its routine use. What I quite fortuitously acquired in the process as well, was a large body of personal experiential evidence that IV Vitamin C was not just overwhelmingly e ective, but also extremely safe. A er administering it to all of my operative patients, no patient demonstrated intolerance or side e ects. Additionally, many had to have their blood pressure and pain medications reduced. eir need for anti-in ammatory medications and for post-operative antibiotics was also reduced. My use of IV Vitamin C in my hospital patients resulted in an improved surgical and hospital experience and outcome, as well as cleared brain and neurologic function, providing improvements in physical, mental, and emotional functions. Furthermore, they experienced reduced symptoms of fatigue, nausea and vomiting, pain, and appetite loss, all of which are symptoms related to operative anesthesia e ects, and which are typically common a er surgery.

I subsequently incorporated this extensive experience with the safe application of intravenous Vitamin C into my o ce practice. is has allowed me to achieve dramatic improvement of patients’ issues with chronic illness of their nervous systems. Additionally, I highly recommend Vitamin C before, during and a er surgery, as the body requires a great deal of Vitamin

C to make connective tissue, and high levels of this Vitamin speed the healing of surgical wounds. Post-operative infections with any surgical procedure, but particular neurosurgical ones, can be devastating and lead to nerve scar tissue formation and subsequent irreversible nerve damage. With the routine use of IV Vitamin C perioperatively, I almost entirely removed the risk of surgical infections and any associated wound healing issues. My protocol was to give all of my patients IV Vitamin C at onset of and throughout the surgery, as well as post-operatively, until just before their discharge home, when their IV was removed.

In conclusion, both my personal clinical experience, as well as that of many years of the extensive research by numerous quali ed research scientists, provide for overwhelming evidence that using IV Vitamin C as an adjunct to conventional treatment methods can be extremely bene cial, with virtually no risk.

Are You Living Limited? By Candice Thomas, Spiritual Business Coach

I invite you to look within: How are you? Take a moment to really check in with yourself. What are you really feeling emotionally and physically? What are you really thinking? Are you operating from your limiting beliefs or your intuition? www.candicethomasintuitive.com

T he holiday season can invoke strong feelings—happiness, gratitude, excitement or annoyance, sadness, and loneliness. ose feelings will in uence what people

manifest into their lives, yet very few will be aware that they’re being in uenced.

It is important to pay attention to what is happening ‘behind the scenes’ in your thoughts and feelings. is means having the willingness to feel your sadness, anger, fear, or other uncomfortable emotions. If you don’t honor your feelings, you will manifest from those emotions instead of manifesting from your heart’s desire. is means that whatever action you take, you will only experience results that cause you more sadness, anger, fear, and discomfort.

Your feelings and thoughts point to the subtle energies of your subconscious limiting beliefs. Most limiting beliefs were created in childhood, when you experienced something negative and your brain created a reason for why you experienced that situation. ey can be as simple as ‘no one loves me’ or ‘everything has to be hard.’

e world around you, your experiences, the people in your life, and the actions you’re taking are all re ections of those beliefs. If you don’t like what you are experiencing, you are manifesting from your limiting beliefs instead of your heart’s desire.

To change this, when you are deciding what to think or what to do ask ‘Is this coming from my limiting beliefs or my intuition?’ Trust your rst impression. When you do, you will begin to ‘see’ your limiting beliefs and identify your feelings and actions that are distorted by past pain. You can then ask for guidance from your intuition about what you should really do next.

Falling in New Mexico By Caren M. Phillips, OTR/L, MS

At Ravenna Assisted Living, we provide 24-hour care and supervision for elderly adults and fall prevention technology may be provided such as tab or bed alarms for residents who have a higher risk of falling. Call buttons are provided for immediate assistance when needed. Care is customized as each person has different needs, levels of function and preferences. We also provide a general exercise program, activities and equipment to help residents stay active and healthy. 505-831-4141, www.RavennaNM.com

Falling is a leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries among older adults. A er a fall about 18% of elderly persons will require medical attention for moderate to

severe injury such as a hip fracture or a head injury. It can also result in decreasing participation in normal daily activities caused by the fear of falling.

In 2011, New Mexico had the third highest fall-related mor-tality rate in the United States. Studies show that the rate of hospi-talization increases dramatically by age 75, and even more signif-icantly a er the age of 85. Statewide health initiatives have been implemented (www.healthinsight.org/nm-fall-prevention) to increase awareness and improve fall prevention education.

Falling is preventable! e following four items have been identi ed to help dramatically reduce your risk of falling. Firstly, exercise to maintain lower extremity strength and balance. Review your medications with your doctor, as studies show that having more than four medications increases your risk of falling. Be aware of vision problems and address them. Lastly, improve home safety by removing clutter in your home such as loose rugs, and by adding rails on stairs and grab bars in bathrooms to assist with safer mobility and transfers.

Recently, the NM Department of Health has made Tai Chi a priority program as part of their fall prevention initiative. (See www.ncoa.org for more info.) Check into your local gym and join an exercise, movement or Tai Chi program for seniors. It will not only reduce your risk of fall and injury, but it will also improve your general health.

Fascia is Fascinating! I just returned from the 4th International Fascia Congress in DC. e latest Fascia research by worldwide Pain Practitioners is very

exciting. We nally have documented research about why you have ongoing chronic pain. It’s the piece of the pain puzzle that has been missing for years.

at’s right. It is not all in your head. I take your history to learn about all the trauma, injuries and surgery your body has endured throughout your life and then evaluate your Fascia/Muscles with Range of Motion tests to nd restriction both in the joints and Fascia/Muscle.

en we have a clear understanding and can make a plan of exactly where we need to treat. Treatment has changed over the years. We now start with gentle pressure and I o en use a massager which is a win-win for both of us. We gently and slowly release the restricted Super cial Fascia rst before we enter deeper into your Deep Fascia and Muscles.

It’s the Deep Fascia that is causing the majority of your pain. And the Deep Fascia grows into the muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, blood vessels and joint capsules. Example: you have a shoulder impingement and/or rotator cu issue. We can release the Super cial and Deep Fascia which is part of the Joint Capsule and Rotator Cu issue and decrease/eliminate the shoulder pain.

Another example is hip pain that just will not go away. e Iliotibial band (IT Band) is usually the culprit. You will never release the restriction in this band of fascia, but you can change its position which will release the tension and allow your Greater Trochanter to “slide” beneath the IT Band.

The Purpose of Holidays By Inga Madsen

What a summer of transformation! Each of us had our own very personal experience with change. As we move from summer into winter, we are

experiencing the declining energy of the earth—a time when the earth’s energy is moving toward its core. e planet is taking a deep breath into itself that will last until Winter Solstice. is decline of energy makes it very hard to stay in good vibrations. Many of us may are experiencing feelings of lack and being tired. We have a very good reason for celebrating the holidays this time of year. e experiences of the holidays are necessary—gi s, cards, candles, holiday scents, lights and decorations—ALL raise our energy. We need to nourish ourselves with all of these things to stay upli ed since we aren‘t getting additional energy from the earth at this time. And we need to assist others to help them stay upli ed as well. Remember the people you work with, your family members, and friends. Small little tokens like cards or a phone call can help people during this time.

Pay special attention to anyone whom you’re aware was forgotten or ignored very early in life. ey need more appreciation/acknowledgment than others. Not feeling noticed and loved is the absolute worst feeling a small child can have. And remember, we are all small children inside! Find your special way to show the people around you they haven’t been forgotten and that you appreciate them. Also, sometimes people around us don’t show us appreciation for the things we do for them. is is when we must give extra attention and extra love to ourselves.

Kindly, Inga

Life Lessons and Deep Transformation By Jaymini Hasham, BSN, RN-BC

“Don’t think about it. Just do it.”, said my trainer, when he saw me hesitating with the heavier weights he had just given me. I quieted the

nagging voice in my head that was screaming, “ You can’t do it! It’s too hard for you. You’re not that strong!”, took a deep breath and knocked out the set of chest presses with the big, scary dumbells. At the end of the set, I was ecstatic! I had done it! at one success buoyed me through the rest of my workout and I le the gym feeling accomplished. I remembered a time when another trainer had said to me, “ Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right. It’s all in your mind”.

On my way home, I thought about the insight I had at the gym. How many times do we let negative self-talk hold us back from doing things that we dream about doing? We all have that loud, negative voice in our heads that screams out our aws when we look in the mirror, tells us that we are not good enough, smart enough, thin enough, young enough, beautiful enough, whatever enough. How many opportunities has that voice robbed you of? Or more

accurately, how many opportunities have you LET it rob you of?

If that negative voice is a part of us, the good news is, we have control over it. And if our thoughts form our reality, then the amazing news is, we can use our thoughts to change our realities. It’s not in the hands of anyone or anything OUTSIDE of us. It’s ALL within us. at is fantastic news! “Easier said than done”, you tell me. And I tell you, “Flip that nagging voice the bird and show it who is boss!”.

e key to silencing that voice is to learn how to quiet the mind. ere are many ways to do this, and one of them is to establish a regular meditation practice. For me, the way to a quiet mind came through releasing my limiting beliefs. And we all have limiting beliefs inculcated within us at an early age. We are born blank slates. en life experiences start to happen and we develop beliefs about ourselves and about how life works.

A limiting belief is a statement about ourself or about life such as, “I am not smart enough. I am not worthy. e world is not safe. People cannot be trusted”. We run these beliefs as a foundation from which we respond to life. Sometimes these beliefs are so ingrained in us, that we are not conscious of them. However, they control our responses to life, and ultimately the circumstances we nd ourselves in. e day we realize that we have created all the circumstances of our lives by the limiting beliefs we operate from, is the day that life can begin to change.

One of the techniques which I practice is the Advanced Pulse technique, which is a technique founded and developed by Jo Dunning. e energy used in this technique is laser like in its focus and it works at the level of these limiting beliefs. T.S., is a client of mine who resides in Canada. I used the advanced pulse technique on her when she was at a crossroads in her life. She wanted to pursue art which was her passion, but she had serious doubts about whether she would make it as an artist. Today, T.S. curates art exhibitions, paints, writes poems and is living the life that she always wanted to live. e advanced pulse technique helped her recognize and release the beliefs which were holding her back. Her testimonial appears on my website.

Why Bother By Bill Haggard, All About Health

Why should I deprive myself of all the things that delight my senses, and all the pleasures the uncon-scious world partakes in? Why would I discipline

myself to do things that in the long run would bring me health, strength, clear thinking, longevity, creativity, peaceful dream- lled sleep, etc.? Because your quality of life depends on it. Because living life with radiant health and abundant energy is more fun than being sick and participating only weakly or partially in life.

e ability to break addictive habits and destructive patterns and relationships are more available to you now more than ever. So don’t choose to stay stuck. Now is your chance. e energies for change are in the air.

e cold and u season begins now (fall and winter). You are persuaded to get u shots and may even be bullied to do so if you work in the health system. Cold and u season do NOT occur because of bugs or pathogens in the air. We are susceptible to it because we are already full of host material for pathogens to grow due to poor lifestyle choices: food, drink, negative thoughts and emotions, lack of moderate exercise, and lack of restful sleep. erefore, most of us are already toxic.

We are particularly susceptible to the u season because we are toxic and tired, exhausted and cranky. en so many of us top o the overload with dietary insults: candy and junk (especially around at Halloween), too many dietary insults with anksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s.

It is truthfully time to start your New Year’s resolution “NOW”, before you weaken your immune system with poor diet choices and stressors like spending money you don’t have on gi s no one needs. Take charge. If you go to parties, eat only if you are hungry. Try eating things that feed your hunger and restrict your taste buds or addicted pleasure centers (at least a bit). Try it!

“No one is a victim of sickness.” Our own lifestyles are the cause and largest contributing factors of any current health problems.

So, where are you personally violating any or all of the rules of health? Stop it already!!! It doesn’t matter if anyone else does it. If you want good health, you don’t have to follow the crowd! Be the example.

It’s simple: avoid colds and u by keeping your immune system strong. Do a house cleaning. Get rid of tobacco, alcohol, sugar, processed food (anything in a box, bottle, package or can). Any of these pleasure foods can “ ll” you, but not “feed” you, because they are dead. ey actually rob your energy, age you, dehydrate you and make you sick.

Put fresh food into your body. Eat when you are hungry;

not because something is in view or within your reach. Love yourself and do what is right for yourself and your family. I realize this is a challenge, as our culture does not live and eat this way. But you can do it!

e next most important thing is to help your body eliminate toxic buildup. Do moderate cleansing using herbs, juices or foods. Enemas are the perfect start because everyone is toxic. With enemas, you decrease the toxic burden immediately by doing what our grandparents did to prevent sickness. Stop being a victim of poor health. Start now. WHY BOTHER? Because you’re worth it!

I am teaching enema classes once a month for those wishing to start their healing journey at home. Call to register for the next class, phone 505-888-5858.

Love, Bill

‘Tis the season of slow sojourn to solstice, where the daylight diminishes and the nights lengthen. It is a time to cuddle up, be quiet and cast our

thoughts gratefully—it is a time of anksgiving.

No matter what traditions we celebrate this time of year, all roads seem to lead to the giving of gi s and gratitude. And despite the commercialization in our culture we can fully feel the joy of gi ing when we hold to a few simple ideas.

Gi ing is from the heart. Give with no expectations and receive graciously. When a gi becomes transactional it is no longer a gi . You know what that means. If anyone in the process of gi -giving is asking (usually themselves) about expectations, reciprocity, cost or value—the heart is lost. With all your heart give and receive—they are the same.

Cherished gi s come from conscious attention. When thoughts turn to those for whom you care, notice your shared experiences and their true desires and wants. Focus

www.theorganiclivingroom.com www.earthgift.com

on what is meaningful. Understand what is valuable. Truly appreciate. In this way, a gi becomes a wish for someone’s happiness, whether it is an object, a consumable, a service, an experience or a donation to a worthy cause. ink creatively remembering this:

Give others all that is alive in us—our interest, understanding, our knowledge, our humor, everything in us that’s good. In doing so, we enhance the sense of aliveness in others while enhancing our own. When we give, we get a “heightened vitality” of what it means to be human. Erich Fromm

Is Your Immune System Ready for the Cold Months Ahead? By Janet L. Hall, ND, CMI, CKP

e typical New Mexican foods: onions, garlic and green chili (actually all chili) are a fantastic way to build your immune system for winter and a great beginning for food lovers! It’s also a bit past time to get a jump on cold/ u season with a good overall Naturopathic checkup. Knowing what your exact issues are is so very helpful!

Your body is di erent from everyone else’s! You may suspect one thing and it may turn out to be something completely di erent. Most people do not realize just

how crucial their digestive system is to strong immunity. At least 65-85% of your immune system depends on the health of your digestive tract. So, if you are someone who gets sick o en—it may be a digestive issue. You don’t have to have digestive pain or heartburn to have an a ected immune system. Most o en we nd that food allergies are a huge contributing factor. Just reducing or cutting out dairy, wheat, gluten-containing grains and sugar from your diet is a good start. Lack of nutrient absorption compromises your immune function, mood and brain.

Candida is also major factor you don’t want to overlook. Candida (yeast) overgrowth is rampant among Americans due to poor sugar-ridden and yeast lled diets. So many say “yes I have yeast, but what’s new? Everyone does.” It’s important to note that an overgrowth of yeast can become severe disease over time. We also nd that people who have consistent bronchitis or lung issues o en have a congested colon that began with yeast or heavy metals. ere are more neurotransmitters in the digestive system than in the brain itself, so a great deal of depression actually stems from the digestive system!

Emotions also play a large role in how well your immune system functions. Stressful situations, loss of a loved one or a traumatic event directly a ects your body and its ability to ght u viruses and bacteria; but also puts you at risk for much more serious health problems. Trauma a ects neurotransmitters and that a ects your cells. Compromised sleep also a ects immunity.

Page 22: Living with · Living with Intent is a chronicle of Mallika Chopra’s search to find more meaning, joy and balance in life. She hopes that be telling her story, she can inspire

Mallika Chopra is the successful author of two previous gi books for parents, 100 Promises

to My Baby and 100 Questions from My Child. She is a busy mom of two, a successful entrepreneur, and the founder and CEO of Intent.com, a successful social platform for people sharing their intents to lead a happier, healthier, and more meaningful life. Mallika is the daughter of Deepak Chopra. She grew up in Lincoln, Massachusetts, and graduated from Brown University and the Kellogg School of Management. Truly Alive: What are intents and please describe for our readers, why “intents are metaphors for seeds”.Mallika Chopra: I see “intents” as our deepest desires for whom we aspire to be as individuals, as members of our families and communities and as citizens of Mother Earth. Intents are when we ask ourselves deep questions like: Who am I?—What do I want?—How can I serve? ese are questions that my father o en asked my brother and me when we were kids. We would respond with “We want to get a ticket for a trip to Hawaii”, or some other material things. My father would suggest asking for things like love, connection, inspiration, hope, or a sense of purpose. “Intents” represent the qualities in our life that will make us happier, healthier, more connected and more purposeful.

“Intents” are metaphors for seeds be-cause when we plant a seed, we nd the right place for the seed, and we cover it with dirt. en the sun nurtures it, we water it and take care of it. O en, we don’t even know the beautiful ower or tree or blossom that is going to come from that seed, but we trust that it will blossom into something ful lling. Life is a journey, and we do not always know what results our intents will bring about.

TA: How can reading your book help our readers achieve their “fullest potential”?

MC: I hope that by sharing my story, it will empower people to know that we all have similar “messy” journeys. ere is an assumption that because my father is Deepak Chopra, that I must lead a very spiritual and holistic life, or have everything gured out. People assume I meditate daily, do yoga, I’m vegan and very spiritual, etc. I am the rst to admit that I really don’t like doing yoga, I’m not vegan, I struggle with sugar and ca eine addictions, and like everyone else I’m trying to nd balance. My rst intent was to share that we are all on the same journey, and we are all guring it out. I do hope that my approach is very honest and also shares some of the tools that have helped me most.I spent a lot of time speaking to people, trying di erent things, going to retreats, reading the ideas of gurus, interviewing people—but ultimately I realized that

there are very simple techniques that can have a huge transforming e ect in our lives. In the book, I wrapped it around a path to intent, which was around the acronym INTENT, and the steps include—Incubate, Notice, Trust, Express, Nurture and Take action. ese are very simple things that we can do in our everyday lives to live more mindfully and with more purpose.

I am a mom with two kids and I have a start-up company. Half the struggle is trying to get through the day. I nd that so many other people I know experience the same thing—whether they are working in a corporate o ce or at home or managing their kids. We are all trying to nd a sense of peace and balance, but also at the end of the day, a sense of purpose. e idea of living with intent is that we are living with some meaning and relevance in the craziness of our days.

TA: In the book, you say “Before anybody can even think about their intentions and what they want out of life, they need to discover what it means to be present.” How can we teach ourselves to be “present”?

MC: Many of us get so consumed in

our everyday tasks. I know I do. For example, my to-do list can consume me some days, as can the times when I label myself...whether it’s being a mother, an entrepreneur, etc. And, I have found in my life that when I am able to step out of being overwhelmed for a moment, to breathe, to feel anchored and be present in the moment, then I feel so much more empowered to do everything else in my life. O en it’s just a shi from all the mental and external activity. Breathing deeply and reconnecting with Self can make everything else so much more manageable.

TA: Why is it important to nd stillness and silence or to practice meditation?

MC: I learned how to meditate when I was 9. I feel that meditation has given me an authentic and real connection to knowing who I am; that a part of me is beyond whatever may be happening during the day or in my crazy thoughts or self-criticisms. When I take the time to be silent and connected, I feel more “anchored” throughout my days, I feel more con dent, more energetic, and more whole. I nd other people have other techniques, like going for a run by the ocean or being in nature. Whatever we can do to experience more of a connection with the reality that is larger than ourselves, gives us a lot of security, creativity and hope.

Regarding meditation, there has actually been a lot of research, especially in the last 5-10 years about the bene ts. When we meditate, our breathing slows down, our heart rate slows and we release a number of hormones which are bene cial to us and make us happier. ere has also been research indicating an increase in empathy, as well as the health bene ts of sleeping better, decreasing blood pressure, and more. I suggest that interested people go online and look up the research.

TA: What does it mean to be “less emotionally reactive” and how can we cultivate that?

MC: My second step in the book is “Notice.” For me, a lot of that is noticing

my thoughts. Noticing the messages my body is sending me as well as noticing or observing the people, places and circumstances that we come across every day. My father used to have us do an exercise where we were not allowed to criticize, condemn and complain for a day. In doing that exercise and just observing our internal dialog, we (my brother and I) realized how easy it is for us to be reactive to any situation, and o en be reactive from a judgmental standpoint. Noticing the internal dialogue and then pausing before reacting, has o en shi ed the way in which I perceive the world. It’s quite amazing how (with practice) that internal dialog can quickly shi from a fear-based reaction to a more empowered reaction.

TA: Can you explain for our readers what you mean by “incubating intent”?

MC: I chose “incubate” for the “I” in the acronym INTENT because I like the idea of the seed…that it takes time for something to grow and take shape. When we are having a baby, it takes 9 months to incubate that child. I know in my own life, I haven’t even known what I want. Sometimes I need time to listen to myself, to gure it out. It can be stressful to realize there are no quick xes or quick solutions to shi our lives when we need something to happen right away. Sometimes, it’s necessary to take time to nurture ourselves or a situation, before it is ready to blossom into something more.

TA: Why is openness important?

MC: When we have a goal, we are very focused on an end result, and we are on a straight path to that goal. Having an “intent” is about bringing qualities into our life and o en the way in which they arrive and the way we experience them is completely unexpected—so the path is not always straight. at is why openness is important. Openness means being open to all possibilities. My dad o en uses the term “In nite Possibilities”. Being open to receiving the gi s of the Universe and trusting that the Universe is guiding us in the right direction allows our intents to bring about positive changes in many more ways.

If we trust that we are on the right path, and if we are on the right path from an authentic place deep within our soul, and of service to ourselves and the world, then when unexpected events occur we notice them—but we continue. Unexpected events o en bring new opportunities and are like miracles that create shi s. In order to bene t from them, it’s important to notice and be open to them; rather than just being laser-focused on a certain goal.

TA: Why is it important to “express an intent” to “express what we want”?

MC: I believe that when you express what you want, it’s almost like you’re creating a ritual just in the expression itself. When you are writing a sentence where you’re really taking ownership and responsibility and stating to yourself and to the world that “this is important to me;” when you express your intent, you take that ownership and you begin to walk your path. It’s the same as actually planting the seed. en you start to discover that others support you in your journey. Other people want similar things. Other people are there to celebrate with you! is is the entire reason I started Intent.com, and created a community of like-minded people around the world who are sharing their deepest aspirations for personal, social, global and spiritual health and abundance. to do it in a public forum; even writing it down on a piece of paper and burning it, or ripping it up and putting it in the ocean is a way of planting the seed. I think taking responsibility for and ownership of the intent is important.

TA: What are the bene ts of overcoming our feelings of “insigni cance”?

MC: It’s a big theme in my book because I think so many of us feel pressure that we have to be serving in a certain way. For me, growing up with my father as a well-known personality—I felt like, “Oh my God, I have to do something great or big in order to be worthwhile.” e most potent lesson I got in this whole process was realizing that I have to trust my intuition, and trust that every day I am living aligned with my deepest values. At times this may involve just being a mom to my 2 kids. I shared with Eckhart Tolle that sometimes I feel like I’m a soccer mom, and it’s not enough. His response was so empowering and beautiful: “It’s the everyday people doing extraordinary things, whether it’s in their families or their communities that are upli ing the frequency of the planet. at is critically important.” at was a really restoring, upli ing conversation for me!

TA: Is there anything else you would like our readers to know about?

MC: No, I feel honored that I can share my journey. I feel honored that I can connect with people. I’ve been so thrilled with how the app and the website have helped connect people. I always love to connect with people there as well!

Breathing = Natural Healing Power By Body & Brain Yoga

Breathing is very important for enhancing natural healing power. First, breathing is an essential process for providing oxygen into our bodies and releasing carbon

dioxide. Healthy breathing that contributes to natural healing power is deep and slow, yet natural. e most important muscle for breathing is the diaphragm. When the diaphragm is lowered just 1 cm (0.4 in), the lungs take in 250 to 300 cc more air. In order to breathe deeply, lower the center point of your breathing to your abdomen.

Besides providing oxygen to our bodies, breathing can impact the autonomic nervous system (ANS). More importantly, among the many vital signs related to the ANS, breathing is the only one that can be controlled intentionally. Slow breathing calms an overly excited sympathetic nervous system out of ght or ight and deep breathing strengthens a weary parasympathetic nervous system for rest and digestion.

Breathing also relates to emotions and mental activities. Try to count your breaths. If your breath count is less than seven in a minute then you’re in a relaxed state. Between 7 and 10, you are slightly excited. Between 10 and 20, you’re excited or even slightly stressed. More than 20 breaths a minute indicates that you are de nitely stressed. e nervous system is a 2-way street. Just as a stressor increases the speed of your breath, increasing the speed of your breath increases your stress. On the other hand, a decrease in stress will slow down your breath and slowing down your breath decreases your stress. When your breathing slows down, it changes your energy, your emotions and even your decision-making abilities. Mindful breathing can increase the power inside of you to attain and maintain natural optimal health.

You can discover the principles and practices of maintaining natural health at any of the four Body & Brain Centers in New Mexico. For only $29 you can schedule an introductory private session with a master healer. www.bodynbrain.com/albuquerque

Many massage therapists o er wonderful, feel-good relaxation massages. Clients come to me to resolve acute or chronic and longstanding issues. I’ve

helped clients release and resolve migraine headaches, car accident pain from so tissue injuries, work-related injuries, age-related issues and more.

In cases such as bromyalgia and multiple sclerosis, clients have experienced a slowing of the progression of their diseases as well as symptom relief and increased well-being in working with me.

When I feel/sense what a client’s body is wanting to release, I feel the energy di erently from the way the energy is owing in other parts of the body. Sometimes I feel heat; sometimes I perceive the energy as light; sometimes I see the absence of light. Occasionally, I see color. O en, it’s a combination of these. During client treatments, I do very little thinking. I am owing with what I am drawn to do based on my client’s body’s feedback and I believe this is the reason I get deeper results.

I found Katrina while searching for a massage therapist who could work with both my physical and energetic bodies. Katrina immediately tuned into both, and our work together has been realigning my ‘problem area’ in my neck and le shoulder. In our 4th week, I was spontaneously getting images of previous life connections to my shoulder issues (which suddenly manifested from no apparent source) and information that Katrina, as a priestess-healer, has worked with me during other lifetimes. I believe Katrina’s sensitive work is allowing me to heal at multiple levels. I recommend Katrina to anyone ready for deeper healing experience through massage. C.M., ABQ

A Mammogram Was Not Enough For Me By Dr. Carla Garcia, DOM

October was a month colored in pink. Pink ribbons abounded in stores, on products, on billboards, on television commercials and even in banks. Women were reminded on

a daily basis to get their annual mammograms. Many of the morning TV shows featured the life stories of breast cancer survivors; one of whom is Joan Lunden, the co-host of Good Morning America from 1980 to 1997. Lunden is a well-recognized journalist, author and television host. She appeared on the morning shows in October of 2014 to publicly announce her breast cancer diagnosis, and came back in October of 2015 to talk about living with a cancer diagnosis and life a er treatment. In her interviews she says “Nothing showed in my mammogram”.

In addition to screening mammograms, Lunden had also done 3D mammography, but even this imaging technique did not detect her cancer. 3D mammography also known as tomosynthesis uses multiple X-rays taken from di erent angles to create a three-dimensional image. Regular

mammograms take X-rays of the breast, from side to side and top to bottom.

 e article A Mammogram Was

Not Enough For Me by Wendie A. Berg,

M.D., PhD, FACR is featured on the www.

J o a n L u n d e n . c o m web site. Dr. Berg is a

radiologist who specializes in breast imaging; FACR

is the acronym for Fellow of the American College of Radiology. She says, “I had my annual mammogram as well as a 3D mammogram. I was relieved when both tests appeared ‘normal’.” Knowing that she has dense

breast tissue and a family history of breast cancer, she did additional screening with MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) that revealed a suspicious mass.

MRI uses magnets and radio waves to provide multiple cross-section images that are more commonly used for diagnosis, than for screening. To increase the clarity of MRI images a “contrast” is injected. e most commonly used “contrast” is gadolinium, a toxic heavy metal. Research on GBCAs (Gadolinium Based Contrast Agents) has shown they can be deposited in the brain and “retention of gadolinium is known to have serious consequences including the incurable and potentially life-threatening disease known as Nephrogenic System Fibrosis or NSF. According to e Lighthouse Project on gadolinium toxicity, July 27, 2015, the FDA announced its investigation “into the risk of brain deposits of gadolinium following repeated use of GBCAs for MRI, for people with normal kidney function”. People with impaired kidney function should not use contrast. GBCAs can still be used but health care professionals “have been cautioned to limit use” to cases where contrast is absolutely necessary and where the bene ts of screening outweigh the risks of gadolinium toxicity.

Ultrasound creates images using high-frequency sound waves. It does not require ionizing radiation or any “contrast” injections, but it can be hard to interpret. According to a study in the Annals of Internal Medicine, ultrasound breast exams result in four times as many false positives. e Wall Street Journal reporting on the above study said “ultrasound screening, in addition to mammograms, would avert four breast cancer deaths for every 10,000 women ages 50 to 75 with dense breasts. But it would also result in 3,500 biopsies that didn’t nd cancer and cost an additional $10 million.” e study “concluded that supplemental ultrasound would increase costs substantially while producing relatively few bene ts”.

What to choose? ere is a screening technique that does not use ionizing radiation, does not require injections of contrast and does not compress the breast tissue. It’s thermography! ermography creates images by recording the heat radiating from the body. e colors represent the amount of infrared radiation being emitted from the body surface. Warmer colors like reds and yellows represent an increase in the amount of heat emanating

e ermography Center uses a camera that is registered as a Class 1 Medical Device. is camera records 84,000 temperatures on each image and reduces the number of false positives and false negatives. False positives do not result in unneeded biopsy, but further follow-up may be recommended. Because we know that there is always the risk of false negatives, we perform manual breast exams as part of a thermography appointment, at no additional cost to the patient.

Research has demonstrated that thermography signi cantly improves long-term survival rates. To quote several doctors: “ e solution to breast cancer is not treatment; the solution to breast cancer is prevention.” An abnormal thermogram is one of the most important indicators for a developing pathology.

Cancer prevention starts with lifestyle choices so in addition to breast screening with thermography; remember to avoid processed foods (especially sugar), exercise regularly (walking counts), optimize your vitamin D levels and reduce everyday stress by taking a few minutes of “quiet” time for yourself. Small changes in health choices, taken one day at a time add up to great health bene ts over a long period of time.

The Secret Herbals in Life Imagined® By William K. Summers, M.D.

Why can’t I reproduce Life Imagined by simply doubling or tripling my one-a-day multivitamin? I know health a cionados look down at us who take

the drug store multivitamins, but why? e answer is that the drugstore multivitamin has not been

shown to do much of anything, except make money for the big Pharma companies that promote them. ey are based on the RDAs or recommended daily allowances, which is to say the absolute bare minimum of a nutrient required to keep someone alive. ese RDAs were developed over 50 years ago. RDA’s are NOT the optimal amount of a nutrient for optimal function and health. RDAs totally ignore and have no way of measuring the importance of herbals which o en contain numerous essential and optimizing nutrients.

HERBALS are the h class of secret ingredients in Life Imagined®. Like the other four component classes, our herbals [Gotu Kola, Gingko Biloba, American Ginseng, Papain, Grape Seed Extract, Eleutherococcus Senticosus] are antioxidants. All of our herbals (except papain) are complex.

Papain is a 345 amino acid proteinase enzyme found in

Papaya fruit. Papain’s major function in Life Imagined® is to make the full formula available for rapid absorption into the body. However, health devotees know digestive enzymes are good for bromyalgia, arthritis, as well as combat aging. Paul C. Bragg, the Father of the Health Movement in America, with Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar, was a big fan of digestive enzymes. He died in 1976 at age 81 of a surf board accident, at a time when most 81 years olds were in wheel chairs. So Papain is our antioxidant herbal digestive enzyme in Life Imagined®.

Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica or Indian Pennywort) is a weed in Asia. In Ayurvedic medicine, Gotu Kola is used for longevity and improving memory. e legend says that T’ai chi ch’uan Master Li Ching-Yuen lived to be “197 or 256” drinking Gotu Kola tea. e common rumor, however, is that the elephants speci cally eat this weed. And we all know that elephants live a long life and have excellent memories.

Technically, C. asiatica contains a variety of biologically active chemical groups. Triterpenoid glycosides (saponines), phytosterols, vallerin, camphor, cineole are some of the known antioxidants. Gotu Kola also has Vitamins B and C, and minerals such as Calcium and Magnesium.

So Gotu Kola is in Life Imagined® for its strong anti-in ammatory and anti-arthritic properties. It improves brain vascular ow. Additionally, it is known for improved wound healing.

Your drug store multivitamin has no such enhancing ‘secret ingredient’!

It would be wonderful to have the space to brag a bit about the importance of more commonly known herbals in Life Imagined® such as Gingko Biloba, American Ginseng, Grape Seed Extract, or Eleutherococcus Senticosus. But space is limited, and the purpose of this article is to impress upon you that each component of Life Imagined® is carefully selected and the dose of each is chosen to work optimally in harmony with the other 34 components. So Life Imagined® is a complete health supplement. It helps you to life vigorously and pursue the life you imagine.

Dr. Summers trained in both Internal Medicine and Neuropsychiatry. He was a professor at three major medical schools and holds eight patents and three trademarks. He invented the first FDA approved drug for Alzheimer’s disease. His latest patented/ trademarked product is Life Imagined®. Bliss and How to Find It! By Maggie Mathisen

This is a season when we can become frazzled and more scattered than normal. We have lots of stu to do to make the Christmas celebration happen with

friends and family and ourselves. And we tend to eat too much of the wrong foods that will not support us through this busy time. So we can temporarily lose ourselves. But there is a deeper, more profound aspect to the season which we can all take advantage of. We can truly learn to heal and nurture ourselves and the world at this time by getting in touch with what is inherently available to us at this special time of year. It only takes a little slowing down and refocusing. We don’t need to lose ourselves and this is something I can help with.

Every season o ers us an opportunity to awaken a di erent aspect of ourselves. e season of Christmas allows us the ability to deepen our experience of the devotional aspect of our being. is is because it is the season when a self-realized or holy man was born onto the earth plane, so this time is super charged with the love he manifested. ere is a part of our human body which allows us to access or vibrate with the spiritual bliss we are all yearning for. As we allow God energy, or Source energy to come into us through the back of the heart chakra, it begins to set the heart on re. As the heart begins to burn, the hardness and the pain in our heart begins to melt. As this happens, the thymus gland is touched and there is a feeling of the heart melting into devotional bliss. is is one of the spiritual areas in the body that can be more easily accessed at this time.

Our body was designed with areas of acute sensitivity to the spiritual—so that as we awaken these areas, we are able to realize our deepest longings. So the thymus becomes energized and begins to create a feeling of the heart melting. And as the heart melts, it becomes so and lled with love and bliss. is then is radiated inward to all of our body parts, organs and stuck places and begins to make us whole again. It truly heals us. It also radiates outward and begins to heal the world. Allowing your heart to melt is all that is required. at is enough. is is what Mahatma Gandhi meant when he said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” We can go beyond the mere physical, the mere human aspects of ourselves, and awaken and deepen those parts of ourselves which are spiritual. Allowing your heart to melt and to ow through you and beyond, is bringing heaven on earth. Allowing yourself to be touched by the

divine, and to allow that to simply radiate is how you will bring peace on earth and good will to men.

Maggie has had an awareness of the energetic make-up of the human body since she was a child, feeling that she was called on to do healings from an early age. As her gi for reading energy patterns in others increased, she began studying healing modalities in the mid 1980’s. Her journey has included study and/or certi cation in Swedish Massage, Structural Integration, CranioSacral erapy, Lymphatic Drainage, Neuromuscular erapy, Re exology, and e Reconnection. rough meditation and studying with her spiritual teachers, she has gained an awareness and understanding of planes of consciousness that facilitate her healings.

Good Credit? Great Time to Buy a Home By Clint G. Bridges (MLO 196017), Clint G. Bridges Mortgage (NMLS 174012)

If you are tired of renting, it’s time to own. Call me now to get pre-approved and start looking. It’s still a buyer’s market out there and all things considered, you can come out ahead in so many ways. 505-889-3545.

It’s becoming easier for buyers and re nancing households with higher credit scores to have their mortgage approved. For the h straight quarter last quarter, more U.S. lenders

eased loan approval standards as compared to the number of banks tightening up. More loans are getting approved than during any period this decade (especially for those with higher credit scores). It’s an excellent time to re nance a home or to buy one.

According to the Ellie Mae, 69% of all purchase loans were approved in June 2015. If your credit score is high enough, even if you’ve been turned down for a loan in the past, consider re-applying soon. Your loan may be approved.

Low and No Down Payment Options: ese are available for VA and FHA loans as well as a few others. Homebuyers with little money for a down payment are nding more home loans available with these options.

e Federal Housing Administration, or FHA, insures loans with small down payments, and private mortgage insurers have relaxed their down payment requirements. Fannie Mae has a 3% down program. It’s even possible to get a mortgage today with no money down. e Department of Veterans A airs, or VA, and the Department of Agriculture, or USDA, guarantee home loans with no down payments.

Low down payment—Mortgage Insurance: Quali ed borrowers can make down payments as low as 3 percent with private mortgage insurance, or PMI. For most borrowers, PMI costs less than FHA mortgage insurance, but PMI has stricter credit requirements. PMI has another edge over FHA: Once your mortgage balance is under 80 percent of the home’s value, you can cancel PMI. You can’t get rid of FHA insurance unless you re nance into a non-FHA loan.

HOLIDAY SPECIAL: Purchase a package of 4 injections FOR ONLY $250 (reg.) $375. Save $125! Exp. 12/31/15.

With the hustle and bustle of the holidays and so many additional tasks and responsibilities, self-care is o en the last thing people think about. But what if you

could enjoy your social time with friends, family and loved ones with less pain?

You can. If you haven’t yet tried homeopathic injections for your pain, now is the time. Whether your pain issues are related to tendonitis in your elbow, osteoarthritis or in ammation in your joints, as a result of sore muscles or any other reason, now is the time to try them. I have 5 di erent homeopathic formulas; each of which work to relieve di erent issues. Sometimes, a combination of two formulas will provide the perfect relief for you.

Many of my patients, once their pain is under control with homeopathic injections, see me once a month on an ongoing basis to manage their pain. Other patients, (in the beginning) see me for multiple injections per week to bring an acute pain situation under control.

Don’t wreck your gut with over the counter NSAIDS (Aspirin: Bu erin, Bayer, Excedrin, Ibuprofen: Advil, Motrin, Nuprin, Ketoprofen: Actron, Orudis, Naproxen: Aleve) or even a prescription NSAID. Even though over the counter NSAIDS are the most common pain relief options in the world, their side e ects are not worth it when there are natural options.

How Full is Your Tank? By Ellen Santistevan, LMT #6535, RMTI #I-0513, APP

How full is your tank? Are you “running on empty?” If you were a bear or other hibernating creature, you would have spent the summer and fall preparing for

the lean times of winter. You would have eaten well, rested, taught your young how to take care of themselves, romped around and had fun, all in preparation for getting through winter’s long sleep.

If you were growing your own food, you would have spent the longer days of spring, summer, and fall investing in your own well-being by tending your land, your crops, and your food animals. You would be preserving your harvest, cutting rewood, deciding which animals you could a ord to feed over the winter, and slaughtering or selling the rest. Winter is the time of resting and planning, making new clothing and patching the old, reading, meditating—dropping into a slower pace of life.

Of course, very few people in America live this way anymore. We seem to be under nearly constant stress from the expectations of work and family life. Everything is scheduled; and yet constant availability is the expected norm. We know very clearly how replaceable we are in the work force, and so we feel obligated to do more and more for less compensation, living in the fear of losing whatever tenuous hold we have on solvency. Our children have to be “well-rounded”, our résumé up to date, our bodies made to look “ideal”, our computers and cell phones continually upgraded. Many people’s work has little to do with tangible productivity—we generally aren’t creating things that feed us in any sense. ere is an inverse correlation between meaningful work and meaningful salary; for example, the people to whom we entrust our most fragile citizens (children, elderly, disabled) are paid some of the lowest wages, while someone in an unsatisfying job may be pulling in much higher money for much less signi cant work.

In a country that prides itself on individual rights and freedoms, somehow we have lost the freedom to be ourselves:

awed, imperfect, self-determining. We take on all kinds of responsibilities that aren’t even ours to carry. If a manager’s employee does something wrong, it is somehow the manager’s fault; if a student isn’t doing well in school, the teacher is held accountable; if a kid chooses to smoke dope, it must be bad parenting; if your loved one doesn’t receive the care they needed in the hospital, you are blamed for not advocating for them. All it may take is one more stressor to be the straw that breaks your back. As we come into Winter, we ought to be slowing down; yet by September, the Christmas displays are already in the stores (in July, in some stores), and we are being pushed to ever greater extremes of spending. Why?

It sounds as if I am painting a bleak picture, but I want you to look beyond that impression. What I am advocating for is self-care and self-compassion. When we push ourselves to the brink every day, we are physically and emotionally exhausted. e Sabbath, or Day of Rest doesn’t even exist for most people anymore, at least not in the sense that we need to take a day of rest from our work, and really be present with ourselves and our loved ones.

I want to encourage you, my reader, to take time to re- ll your resources. When we are poorly sourced, we cannot make good decisions. You might grab at cheap and lling fast food and gulp it down, giving yourself neither nutrition nor appreciation for what goes into your system. You might spend compulsively on little things that give you a temporary li but not invest in deeper satisfaction. You may ignore chronic pain until it drags you down into actual disability.

When you allow yourself to be re-sourced, your immune system improves, your body functions better, your mind is calmer. Deep rest is what allows the body to repair itself, and when you are depleted of deep rest, nothing works the way it should. Bodywork can help you learn to listen to your body’s deeper wisdom; ceremony can help you to restore your spiritual balance. I am here to deeply listen to you on many levels: to honor and to witness for you in what you are going through, to hold safe and sacred space for you to become fully present with yourself; and to allow you time and space to really rest.

Anchor Your Days with Mindfulness By Devon Herndon, LPCC, LADAC, Personal Trainer and Life Coach

Jon Kabat Zinne de nes mindfulness as, “Paying attention in a particular way; on purpose, in the present moment, nonjudgmentally.”

is practice can improve your life experience dramatically. It is so vastly di erent from the way most Americans live their lives that it can take some time to cultivate. Like all habits, it takes time for mindfulness to ow easily. Be gentle with yourself; the more you practice, the sooner it will become second nature.

What Does Mindfulness Look Like? Simply put, mindfulness looks like the present moment. It means staying focused on whatever you are doing, wherever you are, and nothing else. If you are doing the dishes, focus on the plate in your hand and getting it clean. Don’t take a phone call to talk about your friend’s job hunt and/or worry about your budget. Just do the dishes.

When we are mindful, we are not dwelling on things that happened in the past or worrying about the future. e truth is, all that is ever real is the present moment. With mindfulness, you don’t neglect making plans for the future; you set aside a time speci cally for doing this, and approach it with awareness that you have no way of knowing exactly what the future will hold. It’s good to make plans, just don’t grow too attached to them.

Bene ts of Mindfulness: Practicing mindfulness will positively impact your life in many ways. Depression is o en a symptom of being stuck in the past. Anxiety arises when we are worrying about the future. When you are fully in the present moment, both depression and anxiety are reduced. In any given moment, if you are focused on just that moment, you are ok.

When you are being mindful, you are more likely to do that thing well. Abandoning multi-tasking increases creativity, attention to detail, and e ciency. It may feel counterintuitive, but you will actually get more done. Your energy

levels will go up and stress will go down. It’s also likely that you will get more enjoyment out of normal everyday activities.

Getting Your Business Phone to Ring By Karen Larré

Many business owners are really good at providing the services they o er and have great business acumen—skills at running their business; but few

have great marketing skills…particularly marketing savvy and most especially writing skills that will get new clients/customers in the door.

If you want to produce a website that draws the reader in and gets more readers to call; if you want someone to cra the written word for you; to produce a brochure, a newsletter, an article or any print material, I am a great choice. A er writing compelling copy for marketing purposes for so long, I am fast and the information ows out of me easily. As I work on your project, my intuition kicks in and I vibrationally connect to you and your intentions. I translate the notes you provide (or I gather in an interview) into the most persuasive copy possible.

I will be the rst to tell you that I am not a social media marketing expert. I am an older marketer with 30+ years of experience writing compelling copy to get businesses’ phones to ring and customers to walk in the door, but I have not kept up with the social media wave that has swept our culture. at being said, I can write compelling copy for websites, linked in and facebook posts, twitter tweets, etc., I can do a LOT that can a ect your business positively.

For the past 7 years, I have been writing articles for Truly Alive Magazine; but there are times that words just escape me. It is di cult to write about myself or to write sales oriented material. A er sitting in front of the computer for hours, ready to pull my hair out, I can call Karen and she types something up that I can edit or use as is. Fortunately, I like to write, but sometimes I have writer’s block and Karen Larré is better at writing marketing material than most of us.

Why is My Computer Slow? By Peter Trinh

Many clients’ computers I encounter o en have the same set of issues; they are very slow; a website does not work properly; they do not start up normally; a lot

of advertisements and/or virus infection warnings are popping up. O en, by the time I get a call, the issues have reached a late stage and necessitate a thorough cleaning.

What’s happening? In the computer hardware industry, the average pro t margin is usually 2% or less. is is a result of the industry’s aiming for a low price point as the highest priority. Computer manufacturers accept o ers from various so ware vendors to pre-install so ware, such as anti-virus programs; games; internet browsers; toolbars; etc. Many of these programs have built in malware or data miners. ese vendors o en pay computer manufacturers a at fee per computer. e collective term for this phenomena is called “shovelware”, and o entimes these are installed with no testing, resulting in a cluttered and slow computer right from the factory.

Starting in 2008, there was a legitimate-looking program called “Windows Antivirus” that graced many websites as advertising banners warning them of a virus infection. People who clicked on the advertisement would be taken to a page that automatically downloaded this program for free. When the computer was scanned then restarted, it would warn that a large amount of “viruses” were found and o er to clean them. In actuality, the scan and clean would clean out competitors’ malware, but then infect with their own suite of malware; and corrupt legitimate computer les that act as a foundation of Windows and various legitimate so ware programs. Eventually, not only did the illegitimate parties (an organized crime-ring based out of the Ukraine) get a $99 purchase to continue, but also all the information necessary to perform identity the and unsolicited bank account withdrawals!

If you are looking for an extremely experienced, knowledge-able and affordable computer tech who works with the highest level of integrity and compassionate communication, give me a call. 805-455-3246. www.trinhtech.com

ARIES (3/21-4/19) NOVEMBER gives you 12 days to do your best work before changing over to social mode by the 13th. Usually, at this time of year, things end and new things begin. You are stirred by your

passions in whatever you decide to do or whichever impulse you act on. ere is compensation for your labors on the 2nd. If married, it is a good time for the two of you to work on a health regimen together. e nal 10 days are socially active. e 24th is perfect for constructive business activities. News arrives on the 25th. DECEMBER is o en a time of long journeys for the Ram clan. Good time to travel with your mate. Even those who stay closer to home will nd enough action to challenge your combative spirit. e rst weekend may be temper-inducing. en someone wants a rematch within 4 days. Best not to prod the bull. Aside from these action/drama days, you are in a peaceful place and therein lies your attunement to the divine as the year ends. is could be a life-changing month a er the 11th. Changes of direction with your career goals are very likely.

TAURUS (4/20-5/20) NOVEMBER is a time for intimate closeness and devotion to the partner. Some single Bulls will meet important people to partner up with during the rst 3 weeks. Romance has been good

and the 2nd is a nice blending of male/female energies. You are facing a creative challenge which will eventually prove rewarding if you use patience. e 8th brings work and health improvement. Great social importance on Veteran’s Day. e 20th is not so great for journeys or study. Use your perseverance in work, love, and health matters. DECEMBER seems like a good time to increase your nancial security, somehow. ere could be legal dealings with a joint nancial situation. Spoiler alert: You win. Many Bovines will paw through the snow to nd sustenance. Most will do well nancially, as you have a natural sense to nd security and seize opportunity. Christmas Day will be exciting, friendly, and lucrative. We could all stand in the warmth of your happiness. Actually, this is the beginning of reaping the bene ts of your cooperative e orts.

GEMINI (5/21-6/21) NOVEMBER is a time of great corrective action and progress. e 6th is a chance to use your great communicative skills to resolve a deception, or less than ideal situations at work. is

action will bring changes by the 10th. Friends change your mind on the 12th. e 13th begins a festive weekend at home. Watch for stubbornness on the 17th at work. e 20th brings a lighter side to life with greater social involvement. Your plans are well-received on the 24th amidst the excitement of that day and the Full moon of the next day. Love calls on the 25th. DECEMBER: A time to think of others and bring them joy. You could be bringing great happiness to others as you spark positive feelings in your busy social schedule this month. New romances appear like poinsettias all around. Friends need attention too, which you

can easily juggle. ere is a deep seriousness within you a er the 9th. Still, the show must go on. is year’s end is lled with deep emotions, but don’t let that ruin your amorous desires. e 19th-26th is very sweet. Beware of where your course could lead as trouble arises on the 29th.

CANCER (6/22-7/22) NOVEMBER usually brings a consolation prize for the Crabs facing a cold winter. Play and laugh in the light because the shadows have darkness and di culties. ere can be undercurrents

of evil gossip about you, but you are able to keep a positive attitude through it all. Veteran’s day can bring a new start to your love life if you honor the vets. e day before and a er the Full moon is 3 days of high energy, socially, despite serious events during this time. Stodgy people can’t stop greatness. DECEMBER: e month starts with you wrapping things up. Possibly rest the rst 3 days, because it’s bound to be hectic a er that. e 6th has you brimming with good health, but it also brings problems at home. Use your strength and friends to do battle this week until the 12th. e New moon on 12/11 has an aspect of romance. is can be your best gi of all. You seem to be the pivot point for the Full moon of Christmas Day. is “family values” moon is wrapped in excitement as even opposing sides can nd peace. Listen to the voice of truth.

LEO (7/23-8/22) NOVEMBER: is Scorpio season is best for home a airs. Get your home in order before the fun starts a er the 22nd. Lions have a real chance to regain their regal edge. e season takes on a serious

nature which brings you to your core self. Your partner recovers from confusion a er the 9th and your social world returns to the ideal you expect. You must be more nurturing near the end of the month or risk someone leaving your life. Short separations are likely, but all should be well in two weeks therea er. DECEMBER will be a happy time as expected. Maybe not at rst, but it will improve as your holiday spirit comes out. ings aren’t really as aggravating as they could be. You just want a no-static zone. You may have to stop a ght on the 6th. e 8th is very positive for friends and learning. You deserve a promotion by the 11th, starting next month. Words of love ow freely on the 14th. By the 15th, you have gingerly made it through any mine elds. Now, you’re back in full step. e Full moon on 12/25 is an apex that lasts until next year.

VIRGO (8/23-9/22) NOVEMBER: You notice a di erent feel to this month. You are prone to deep thinking about things which end. You have locked in your security, so now is good to work on those home

issues. You are also undergoing a deep connection to your core self. ings happen quickly at this time and it is up to you grab the brass ring. e Full moon on the 25th will rock your world. You will be shaken to the core when life oods your mind like a

tsunami. e 24th/25th is a strong time to be constructive and energetic. Home is best. DECEMBER: Mercury keeps zipping along as you begin the month with a blast of energy. ere’s a higher sense of justice which keeps you grounded. You have passed recent tests and now you can share happy thoughts with those closest to you. e 19th and 20th could be two days of mystery and intrigue which could lead to sudden passion. Be prepared. e 25th is triumphant with your perfect delivery of the goods. It’s a lazy day so don’t expect others to help with the cleanup. Let the mess go and join in the frivolity. e 29th is hazardous. Be careful.

LIBRA (9/23-10/22) NOVEMBER: Your recent hard work is starting to pay o by the 8th. Use the rst 3 days this month to really pour your heart into getting things done. ings feel better near the 8th, but don’t

be fooled by that. From the 13th-20th, your “lifeboat” could spring a leak. e nal 10 days are not so healthy for humans and other living things, but you will manage to keep your balance even when you get caught up in the motion of things. ere is someone close to hold onto, so do that. Don’t let religious di erences shake your beliefs. Travel carefully. DECEMBER: You are looking good, which helps enhance your nances. Money and opportunities arrive in time to pay that debt. Luxuries can wait. It’s the month to get your income balanced. You will enjoy the feeling of “peace on earth” at month’s end. e 6th sees things turning serious like a cloud moving over the Sun. e light returns by the 11th. What you do in the name of love will reverberate for a month. Friends and others could gather at your home before Christmas. Have a sleep-over. e month ends like a scene from a musical.

SCORPIO (10/23-11/21) NOVEMBER: Another birthday rolls around and nobody has killed you yet. Have a happy one! Progress is slow and steady this month despite a feeling of low energy. e 5th will

boost your energy as you could receive a nice honor. You hear some great news on the 10th and your words can bring changes for the good. Around the 20th, a secret attraction could lure you into very dark places. You are so tempted this whole month that you could qualify for sainthood if you can just say, “no”. DECEMBER: Most Scorpions might be very glad to see this year end. Your protective venom supply has been depleted. ose attacks (real or imagined) are likely to decrease as you hammer out your truth and show the value of hard work in your success. e 17th-19th is very nice as love and communication combine to create a deep satisfaction. You may feel divided as you assert your personal rights, as you want a peaceful season to just relax from con ict. Your strength comes from a karmic completion of a two year lesson. Now, you are a statue of pride.

SAGITTARIUS (11/22-12/21) NOVEMBER: is time of year is for nishing a yearlong cycle before preparing for another. ere is a great chance to expand your business interests, or at least to experience

great joy and happiness in your work e orts. e keyword here is: responsibility. is word causes you great disdain, but you have the energy to be self-disciplined. You are expected to light the way for others and there will be a test at month’s end. Lessons teach. DECEMBER: You may have a need for peaceful time alone. ere seems to be a need to restore sanity this way. e 11th is a good day to make new starts in your yearly cycle, or year-long goals. Happy birthday to the protectors at the gates of truth…the

bold Archers who teach us to aim high and have faith. If possible, work to expand your career and education into next year. Choose to be more responsible or the Universe will choose for you. e 24th/25th season has you in a position to speak to large groups about your beliefs. Mainly, have a merry time!

CAPRICORN (12/22-1/19) NOVEMBER: ere are two kinds of Goats. ere are the Sea goats who live happily in their comfort zone of knowing what they need to know to survive. Hell, my cat is that

smart. Second is the mountain goat who climbs to the top of the mountain or gets trapped on a chain under someone’s control. is month, there are mountains to climb and changes which lie ahead. e next 5 years lead to a transformation if you’re steady and ready. You must face your own beliefs which may con ict with this new direction. A wall looms near the 26th. DECEMBER: e Goats are at a full gallop. A lovely friend enters your life on the 4th. ere will be ongoing work-related challenges, but someone supports your ideals. Much of your loping goes on in private, or in your mind. ere could be obligations to visit with the ill or incarcerated. You can almost feel that something is thundering toward you. If not a herd of bu alo or an avalanche, it should be exciting next year. is month you are very psychic when you overcome that logic blockage. Believe what you sense.

AQUARIUS (1/20-2/18) NOVEMBER: You are the bearer of knowledge, but how can you make use of that? You need an outlet for your nervous energy so you spew facts and wisdom to even those most deaf to

your words. is trait could be throttled back just a bit these rst 3 weeks. is is a time to clearly de ne who or what you are…to clear out things which meant so much as they have served their purpose. You will feel proud. Not much progress happening, so just do the usual; study the ways of mankind as you redo the past. DECEMBER: Like a stone skipping over a sea of broken glass, your life just keeps getting weirder. Your planetary ruler will come out of 4 1/2 months of delays and setbacks to your “fast forward” tendencies. It was a good time to prepare your writings, plan trips, and examine your way of thinking. ings improve with your sibling and neighbor relations. You return to progress and progressive ideals, but not until Christmas Day. Your job is to rattle the cages of the sluggish. Now, they will heed you.

PISCES (2/19-3/20) NOVEMBER: Celebration! Neptune turns direct on the 18th. e waters turn calmer for the Merpeople. Your dreams become real again. Before all that, the 8th brings news which

could change your plans for the day. Some Fish think of travel afar, but alas it is only a gratifying dream. You are stirred by the arousing sight of another, any time a er the 12th. Friends could drag you into their ghts if you let them. Something happens near the 14th, which could create karma on the 24th/25th. e month ends like a at tire. Stay pumped up until next month. DECEMBER: You seem to sail a very calm sea this month despite the obtrusive behavior going on around you. e 14th brings good news at work. Is it a raise? Your partner’s good fortune could feel like a promotion for you. ere is such happiness to be found by mixing with others this month. You will feel drawn to religious services because of another’s persuasion, a blending of faith-based activities with socializing. It will be good for you. Home gets more exciting around Christmas. You will be warmed by events on the 29th. ings are ship-shape.
