Food for Thought: "“When he has driven out all his own, he walks ahead of them, and the sheep follow him, because they
recognize his voice." John 10.4. Using the image of shepherd and sheep, Jesus made an analogy for us to listen to the voice of
God. Sometimes we are distracted by other voices that Jesus called “thieves.” These thieves rob us of our desire to follow Jesus.
True sheep, however, know the voice of the shepherd. The shepherd provides safety and life for his sheep.
Reflection: How are you a shepherd to those in your care? What will you do this week to show that you are a Christian?
"Fatima is the home from which Mary choose to speak to us in modern times...We would be mistaken to think that Fatima's prophetic mission is complete" ... Pope Benedict XVI
CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION OF FATIMA... During WWI, Pope Benedict XV made repeated pleas for peace - finally in May 1917, he
made a direct appeal to the Blessed Mother to intercede for peace in the world. Just over a week later - on May 13, 1917, Our Lady began to
appear at Fatima, Portugal to three shepherd children, Lucia do Santos, age 10 and her cousins, Francisco and Jacinta Marto (siblings) ages 8
and 7. At the time, Fatima was a small village about 70 miles north of Lisbon. On June 13, 1917, 50 people also observed the same
apparition. Each month on the 13th these apparitions continued. By September 13th, a very large crowd converged on Fatima to see the
happenings. On October 17, 1917, "The Miracle of the Sun" also known as "The Day the Sun Danced" occurred - this was a miracle
attributed to Our Lady of Fatima. With each appearance, she asked the children to pray for sinners and to pray the rosary. By Oct 13th, tens
of thousands gathered with the children to witness Mary's appearance to them. Fatima continues to be a place of pilgrimages with the
greatest crowds of gathering to pray being on May 13th and October 13th each year. Please take the time to pray the Rosary this month
especially as May is the month dedicated to Mary. In 1982, Pope John Paul II consecrated the world to Mary at the Fatima Shrine in Portugal.
On May 13, 2000, Pope John Paul II beatified Francisco and Jacinta. And Francisco and Jucinta will be canonized during Pope Francis' visit
to Fatima on May 13, 2017. There is a yearlong pilgrimage that will be happening starting on the 100th anniversary of the first apparition and
Masses are being held around the world. the "Blue Army" is one of the organizations that is dedicated to Our Lady. You can find more
information on the Archdiocesan website.

Busy Person's Retreat Part 3. How Do You Love Others?
prepared by
Eleanor Lincoln, CSJ, and Catherine Litecky, CSJ
Women at the Well Ministry, St. Paul, Minnesota ©2004
Have you hugged anyone today? "This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one
has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's
friends." (John 15:12-13)
How loving have your relationships been today? Did you show love
to your family this morning as you began the day? Did you greet
your friends, neighbors and fellow workers graciously? Will the sun
go down with your love intact for all the people in your life?
In the gospels Jesus shows his love for others. He refers to God's
commandments as the source of all human relationships: "Now a
young man approached him and said, "Teacher, what good must I do
to gain eternal life?" Jesus answered "There is only One who is good.
If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments." (Matthew
19:16-19).
And, of course, the greatest commandment is LOVE: "You shall love
the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all
your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as your-
self" (Luke 10:27-28).
The goal of the good life is to become more other-centered, to love
others as ourselves. Good relationships are signs of God's love. The
Ten Commandments guide our relationships with God and with oth-
ers. The first three recognize our relationship to God and the final
seven tell us that God cares about the way we treat each other.
Think of "you shall not kill" as telling you how to treat others with
respect for their human dignity. "You shall not commit adultery" and
"Honor your father and mother" are at the heart of all human rela-
tionships. The other seven commandments also show how God cares
about the way human beings treat each other.
In your family have you learned to live Jesus' teaching to love your
neighbor as yourself? How can you keep loving relationships with
the people in your life? Do you show your love in the simple acts of
daily living such as doing the dishes, mowing the lawn, dealing with
money problems? How do you express your love in dealing with
problems occurring between generations?
Your family is surely very important to you. How about your
friends? The great American writer, Henry David Thoreau, once
wrote: "Friends give each other hope. They are kind to each other's
dreams." To how many people do you give hope? How kind are you
to their dreams?
These are some questions you might ask yourself today:
Where do I find God and God's love in the place where I am at the
present moment?
How do I affirm each member of my family and community?
How can I love deeply without possessiveness?

Today, we celebrate “Good Shepherd Sunday” where we reflect on
Jesus’care and love of us and hear his words, “I came so that they
may have life and have it more abundantly.” By your gift to the
Society of St. Vincent de Paul you will reveal the love of the
“Good Shepherd” to your suffering brothers and sisters.
sufren.
4th Week of Easter My sheep hear my voice. I know them and they follow me. John 10.27
Good shepherds care for their flocks, or employees, or clients, or students as they do for themselves. They accompany their flocks through danger, drought, and dark valleys. Hear what God’s voice directs you to do in your daily life. Be a caring friend and coworker this week, especially to those who seem outside the flock or in danger. Prayer of the Week Lord, you are my shepherd. Let me hear your
voice.

Rediscover Your Marriage – Retrouvaille simply means 'rediscovery'. This program offers the chance to rediscover yourself, your spouse, and a loving relationship in your marriage. 10's of 1000's headed for divorce have successfully saved their marriages by attending a week-end. Retrouvaille is not spiritual retreat, not a sensitivity group, not a seminar, not a social gathering. For confidential information about or to register for the program beginning with the weekend on June 23-25, 2017, please call 1-503-225-9191 or visit www.helpourmarriage.org.
