Living Office® Palettes

With Living Office, Herman Miller recognizes the power the built environment has in shaping the experiences of people at work. As we continue to develop hard and soft surfaces for use in your projects, we do so with an eye to how they can enhance people’s experiences. Here we present several palettes for your information and inspiration.

Team Worth

A Workshop Settings has a variety of furnishings and tools to support people as they generate new ideas together—an activity we call Co-Create. As the focus of their work shifts, team members have what they need to transition fluidly between tasks. A dominant neutral palette lets them maintain focus, while a few, bright accents add vitality that energizes team members.

Featured Materials: Textiles in Rivet Olive, Rivet Deep Clay, Rivet Hemlock, Loom Deep Sea, Grasscloth Gravel, Crepe Beachglass, Maharam Mode 002 Vermilion, Maharam Vestige 005 West, Wood and Veneer in Walnut on Ash, Patterned Laminate in Linen Crisp

Healthy Talk

A small, enclosed Haven Setting in a healthcare environment accommodates private interactions between physician and patient. To engage in meaningful discussions—or to Converse, in Living Office parlance—people need a setting devoid of distractions. Soft colors combined with cool neutrals provide a sense of ease and calm.

Featured Materials: Textiles in Marvel Sand Dollar, Marvel Woodrose, Marvel Polar Blue, Well Suited Bluestone, Medley Vintage Rose, Maharam Cycle 002 Auger, Maharam Micro 004 Basalt, Eames Fiberglass in Navy Blue, Wood and Veneer in Clear on Ash, Patterned Laminate in Natural Twill

Idea Starter

A Hive Setting is a grouping of workstations that makes impromptu conversations among team members as effective as possible. This activity, known as Chat, forms the basis of collaborative work. In support of these interactions, bright colors invigorate team members. Multicolor palettes lend an energy that reinforces the kind of social collaboration that sparks ideas.

Featured Materials: Textiles in Medley Pewter, Medley Chartreuse, Medley Loden, Resonance Pistashio, Maharam Bright Cube 004 Glo, Fish Net Chipotle, Metaform Block Mineral Grey, Centipede Hyper Orange, Centipede Hyper Lime, Eames Molded Plastic in Charcoal

Better Together

Meeting Spaces help people share information. When that’s a single speaker presenting, known as Show & Tell, people focus on him or her and the content being shared. A two-color palette of warm, textured textiles supports this focus and, because of its non-reflective nature, provides a better viewing experience for remote participants.

Featured Materials: Textiles in Noble Lagoon Mix, Noble Heathered Grey, Noble Heathered Tan Mix, Loom Deep Sea, Fish Net Curry, Crepe Stone, Crepe Smoke, Maharam Mode 035 Jetty, Maharam Reef 002 Minnow, Mirra 2 Lumbar in Lime Green, Wood and Veneer in Aged Cherry

Get Away

People sometimes need to pause and reflect on their work without distraction. A small shelter, known as a Haven, lets them engage in this Contemplate activity. Warm woods and neutrals with heightened texture create a cozy atmosphere that makes the person feel “enveloped” without feeling confined. The palette echoes calming hues found in nature.

Featured Materials: Textiles in Leather Sable Grey, Leather Rattan, Ground Cloth Warm White, Loom Linen, Maharam Cobblestone 003 Ocelot, Remix by Kvadrat 133, Wood and Veneer in Dark Brown Walnut, Walnut on Ash, Setu Frame Finish: 98 Studio White

Mix It Up

Inviting Plazas are public spaces where people gather and interact, what we call Chat and Converse activities. Placed at highly trafficked areas of the workspace, Plazas encourage social interactions and serendipitous encounters. Multiple textures and pops of color reflect and foster the movement and exchange of ideas that naturally occur there.

Featured Materials: Textiles in MCL Grey, MCL Charcoal, String Plaid Warm White on Khaki, Well Suited Spring Green, Hallingdal by Kvadrat 407, Maharam Mode 038 Celtic, Maharam Mode 037 Mallard, Translucent in Dot Pattern Glass, Formcoat in Folkstone Grey, Laminate in 91 White with Universal Edge in Plywood, Wood and Veneer in Clear on Ash.
