IMITATING GOD

Laws would be entirely unnecessary if we lived perfect lives. As we know all too well, however, we often fall short of the good intentions that we cherish in our hearts. Perhaps the law would even be unnecessary if we lived alone, isolated from other people. But God’s design for humanity includes togetherness. And when we live together, we tend to step on each other’s toes. Thank God for laws that help us to live in community with justice and compassion. Underlying every one of God’s laws is an eternal longing for fairness and fullness. What’s more, God’s own self—a vibrant community of Father, Son, and Spirit—reveals the deep joy of living in peace with self and neighbor. The Trinitarian nature of God—three Persons in one God—astonishes us with its commitment to fruitful love. Love is gratuitous and lavish, constantly producing and giving of itself. The more generously we love God, self, and neighbor, the more we will know that, as Saint Paul says, “love is the fulfillment of the law” (Romans 13:10). Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc

My friends in Christ: Congratulations to the Newly Confirmed

On Wednesday, October 21, 2020, 83 seventh grade St. Jude parish students received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Our parish was honored to have Most Reverend Michael J. Fitzgerald confer upon our students this Sacrament. The Confirmation celebration was filled with great joy. The families were so proud of their sons and daughters. Our Confirmandi were well prepared and clearly open to receiving the grace that comes from the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. A special thank you to our principal Sr. Elizabeth, Mrs. Lori Rawski and all our teachers and catechists for preparing our students to receive this sacrament. Please join me in congratulating the following students:

God bless! Monsignor Francis W. Beach, Pastor

PREP and Adult Faith Programs Are Expanding in Spite of Our Strange Times

A wonderful Confirmation retreat was had earlier in the month. The National Evangelization Team did a great job encouraging, engaging, and inspiring our Confirmandi as they prepared for their Confirmation. Confirmation 2020 was awesome. A little different, as many of our loved ones could not attend per-sonally, but everyone was able to attend virtually across the globe, thanks to our live streaming capabilities! Bishop Fitzgerald gave a terrific homily. Congratulations to the newly confirmed!!

We are in our 5th week of virtual PREP. Everyone seems to be enjoying using Flipgrid and recording videos to their catechists. Second and sixth grades are doing a terrific job having class in the church. This is a first for us!! Family Faith PREP program began in the beginning of the month. A huge thank you to Deacon Tim for a wonderful seminar on the Scripture and Traditions of our Catholic faith. Deacon Tim explained in everyday language why Scripture and Tradition are at the forefront of our faith. This is how Jesus revealed Himself to us! It’s been a different beginning of an amazing school year. Thanks for everyone’s support. The Search adult study as well as Walking with Purpose (WWP) Women’s Study have begun. Many of our adults are deepening their faith, which is most important especially during these uncertain times. Women are still welcome to join WWP as it just started. A Blessed Fall to All!! Mrs. Lori Rawski, Director of Faith Formation

Solemn Novena to St. Jude Thaddeus August 30 through October 25

P : In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. P : O glorious apostle, St. Jude Thaddeus, true relative of Jesus and Mary, I salute you through the most Sacred Heart of Jesus! Through this Heart I praise and thank God for all the graces He has bestowed upon you. As I humbly prostrate before you, I implore you through this Heart to look down upon me with compassion. Oh, despise not my poor prayer; let not my trust be confounded! To you God has granted the privilege of aiding mankind in the most desperate cases. Oh, come to my aid that I may praise the mercies of God! All my life I will be grateful to you and will be your faithful follower until I can thank you in heaven. Amen. P : "Blessed Apostle, with confidence we invoke you!" P : "Blessed Apostle, with confidence we invoke you!" P : "St. Jude, help of the hopeless, aid me in my distress." P : "St. Jude, help of the hopeless, aid me in my distress." Most holy apostle, Saint Jude Thaddeus, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the trai-tor has caused you to be forgotten by many. But the Church honors and invokes you universally as the patron of difficult and desperate cases. Pray for me as I present my needs; make use, I implore you, of that particular privilege accorded to you to bring visible and speedy help where help was almost despaired. Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the consolation and help of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, particularly (here make your re-quest). May I bless God with you and all the elect throughout all eternity.

I promise you, O blessed JUDE, to be ever mindful of this great favor, and I will never cease to hon-or you as my special and powerful patron and do all in my power to encourage devotion to you. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father Saint Jude Thaddeus, pray for us and for all who honor you and invoke your aid.

Apostle of Jesus, A martyr saint of old, The cousin of Our Savior, Of whom thy love hath told; A writer of the scriptures With tongues of fire aflame, The worker great of wonders ln Jesus Holy Name. The worker great of wonders ln Jesus Holy Name.

St. Jude, though oft forgotten Thou shalt remembered be; We hail thee now in glory And have recourse to thee For help for the despairing When hopeless seems the task. And from the Heart of Jesus Through thee we favors ask. And from the Heart of Jesus Through thee we favors ask.

1st Reading – Ex 22:20–26

Thus says the LORD: “You shall not molest or oppress an alien, for you were once aliens your-selves in the land of Egypt. You shall not wrong any widow or orphan. If ever you wrong them and they cry out to me, I will surely hear their cry. My wrath will flare up, and I will kill you with the sword; then your own wives will be widows, and your children orphans. “If you lend money to one of your poor neighbors among my people, you shall not act like an extor-tioner toward him by demanding interest from him. If you take your neighbor’s cloak as a pledge, you shall return it to him before sunset; for this cloak of his is the only covering he has for his body. What else has he to sleep in? If he cries out to me, I will hear him; for I am compassion-ate. Responsorial Psalm – Ps 18:2–3, 3–4, 47, 51

R. I love you, Lord, my strength.

I love you, O LORD, my strength, O LORD, my rock, my fortress, my deliverer. R. My God, my rock of refuge, my shield, the horn of my salvation, my

stronghold! Praised be the LORD, I exclaim, and I am safe from my enemies. R. The LORD lives and blessed be my rock! Extolled be God my savior. You who gave great victories to your king and showed kindness to your anointed. R.

30th Sunday in Ordinary Time

2nd Reading – 1 Thes 1:5c–10

Brothers and sisters: You know what sort of peo-ple we were among you for your sake. And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, receiving the word in great affliction, with joy from the Ho-ly Spirit, so that you became a model for all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. For from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth not only in Macedonia and in Achaia, but in every place your faith in God has gone forth, so that we have no need to say anything. For they themselves openly declare about us what sort of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God and to await his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus, who delivers us from the coming wrath. R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Whoever loves me will keep my word, says the Lord, and my Father will love him and we will come to him.

R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel – Mt 22:34–40

When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, and one of them, a scholar of the law, tested him by asking, “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” He said to him, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”
